Does a good job with the right power

Does a good job with the right power

I wanted a small nail gun for woodworking projects but didn’t always like firing up my compressor. The Arrow shoots 18 gauge nails up to one and a quarter inch long. Good for the 3/4 inch lumber from the big boxes I often buy. I use quite a bit of oak and it drives the nails fully through solid oak, with the nail head just below the surface for a clean look. The reviews on Amazon were amazingly poor, but a few spoke of it doing a good job with the right power. I found out first hand tha...

Great miter saw stand, if you can't have yours set up all the time.

Great miter saw stand, if you can't have yours set up all the time.

I bought this Ryobi Miter Saw stand a few months ago and I love it. The picture shows it set up, but the legs will fold in and you can carry it around or for storage. I don’t have enough room to have a saw set up all the time and I have to set my saw up outside to cut for now. For the first time use, you have to attach the cross “sleds” or feet if you will, then attach the saw and the feet to the cross bars. It’s best to tilt the front towards you and then let the wei...

Woodsmith Aluminum Box Joint Jig

Woodsmith Aluminum Box Joint Jig

I was fairly pleased with this product and give it a 3.5 rating. . It was somewhat difficult to use and with some minor changes could be greatly improved. The DVD instructions were pretty good once you watched it several times. I found it difficult to hold the boards in place when you have a lot of cuts to make. Some type of hold down fasterner would help but also would slow the process quite a bit. What you don’t realize when you buy the jig is that you might as well and go ahea...

OK..OK…this isn’t about a new cool tool. However, sometimes it is nice to recognize the service and people behind those cool new tools. I recently placed an order with Penn State Industries online and used a gift debit card that I thought had enough on it to cover the order. Well, it didn’t and the order “bounced.” I got a very nice call and email and the Customer Service agent (Judy) worked things out for me with as courteous a tone as you could imagine. ...

How to Inhib Rust in your shop

How to Inhib Rust in your shop

I bought this at my WoodCraft Store and have installed it my workshop.I can attest that it stops rusting on my Table Saw and the beauty is that this protection will last 2 years. Also the Capsule VC6-2 will protect a 905 ft3 Volume with a radius of 6 ft so any tools within this area are also protected.I have included the page on the woodcraft and the manufacturer info.I checked other suppliers and found that woodcraft had the better price. http://www.zerust.com/product/ict-vapor-capsules ...

Great way to have 220 without Electrician

Great way to have 220 without Electrician

07-28-2009 05:02 AM by reggiek | 21 comments »

I recently needed 220 in my new shop and had not had the chance to wire up the necessary circuits. A friend of mine recommended that I check out this web page and buy one of these units. It uses two 115 sockets to produce the 220 voltage. I tried the unit with my table saw and was pleased to see that the saw acted the same as it had when connected to a dedicated 220 circuit. Since there were two sockets on the adapter I was also able to hook up my 220 planer and run it with the same suc...

A great source of exotic woods

A great source of exotic woods

07-24-2009 11:41 PM by reggiek | 14 comments »

I had the pleasure of finding a wonderful source of exotic woods for projects and turnings. Searching through the internet search engines, I came accross a posting for a small company located about 20 or so miles away from my home. They listed some very nice items….and had pictures which I could view and select. I went through their postings and found numerous one of a kind pieces. I selected only a few of the ones I wanted and purchased with an indication that I would pick them up....

Not Heavy Duty Enough for Reclaiming Hardwoods

Not Heavy Duty Enough for Reclaiming Hardwoods

I ordered this to tackle the nail pulling process I encountered while reclaiming some Bowling alley floors. As I mentioned in a comment on my blog, I usually am not inclined to order anything online that I have not been able to experience first hand. but since I was desperate, and it just so happened that this product was mentioned a couple of times here and there just when I was looking for nail pulling devices, I figured I’d take the plunge and go for it – a little out of the us...

Simple Green Again

Simple Green Again

07-23-2009 03:41 AM by Kindlingmaker | 19 comments »

I know there have been many praises and reviews for Simple Green to clean all kinds of saw blades but I read another praise in “Woodworkers Resource” about mixing Simple Green 1:4, 1 part Simple Green to 4 parts water. The author let the blades soak for 3 hours and said it worked as good or better than any other product for removing build up on saw blades. I have tried mineral spirits, paint thinner, gasoline, and just about everything else with small success, so I mixed up 1 gallon of Simpl...
