Craftsman Automatic Power Switch

Craftsman Automatic Power Switch

I just purchased this item recently, but it works exactly as described and is a problem solver for me. I searched Lumberjocks to see if there was already a review. I see many references to this product, but no review. I did not know that this product even existed until about a week ago, so maybe my review will make it easier to find for future new Lumber Jocks. I found mine for $24.99 at the local Sears store. I used a $10 off coupon and so actually paid 14.99 plus tax. This grey pl...

Rockler Exotic Cutoffs 10 lbs. Assortment

Rockler Exotic Cutoffs 10 lbs. Assortment

04-15-2011 05:51 AM by BreakingBoardom | 29 comments »

So with money being tight lately and starting to work on some smaller projects, I decided to take the plunge and buy a 10 lbs. box of assorted exotic cutoffs. The reviews on the Rockler site have been mixed with some happy and some unhappy. I guess what it probably boils down to is what your expectations are going in. I was expecting some small pieces of exotic species that I wouldn’t otherwise be able to afford separately. Others said the boxes were mostly Purpleheart and Padauk wh...

Finally found one that wasn't junk

Finally found one that wasn't junk

I went to elementary school in the 1980s. Back then, every classroom had a brown Bostich mechanical pencil sharpener. Most of those sharpeners looked like they had been in service for decades, despite getting daily abuse from legions of careless kids. I have no idea what they were made of, but they were tough, well-bulit products that seemed to last and last. Fast forward 20 years. Now I have kids in elementary school and all homework gets done in pencil. Up until recently, the only sharpener...

Hammerite Rust Remover Gel - A Product Review

Hammerite Rust Remover Gel - A Product Review

03-24-2011 08:46 PM by Brit | 18 comments »

Recently I posted a restoration story of an old Skinner 6” sweep brace (you can read it here if you missed it) where I used Hammerite Rust Remover Gel. Since people showed a lot of interest in this product, I thought I would do a proper review as I use it to clean the saw plate on a wonderful vintage Spear & Jackson hand saw. You can read all about this gorgeous piece of English heritage here. The gel is available in three sizes: 75ml, 100ml, 225ml and 750ml. I bought the largest size ...

Well, not much to talk about here except if you don’t have any around the shop, you may consider getting a roll it’s around $6.00. It’s perfect for that none slip miter fence. I can find few more uses for it I’m sure. Peel and stick and 2” x 96” inches.

Very Easy Flutes

Very Easy Flutes

I needed to make 8 fluted columns for a small kitchen island I was making and remembered reading about a flute spacing jig here on LJs.The jig was delivered very quickly and I found it to be of the highest quality. It is made of THICK aluminum. What the jig does is help you set the fence on your router table for perfectly spaced flutes every time. You do not need to measure and there is no math involved. The instructions say to practice on a piece of scrap wood. The scrap piece and all 8 columns c...

Rockler's Concealed Hinge

Rockler's Concealed Hinge

03-13-2011 07:06 AM by ChunkyC | 1 comment »

I purchased some of these so that I could finish my upper shop cabinets. The hinges didn’t come with installation instruction but an email to Rockler’s Tech Support got me a PDF of “installation instructions” in about 2 days. The instructions are vague but there was enough information so that I could suss out how to install them. They really don’t tell you the set back for the hinges and where to pre-drill so I installed a set into some scrap to get the correc...

Something to avoid

Something to avoid

Prefix: I should say that I’m not a very experienced woodworker, so I’m not comparing this machine with anything else – I have no idea whether this table saw is better, or worse, than a Griz X, or a Bear Y. ————————————————————————————————————- A couple of ...
