Helps Keep Shop Socket clutter to a mininum

Helps Keep Shop Socket clutter to a mininum

As I probably have over-stated many times, I have a small basement shop and I will frequently look for items that can either reduce tool clutter or increase safety. I have a number of shop items that require wrenches or sockets to change settings, swap items, perform assembly, etc. When it comes to car maintenance, I love my socket set, but when I am working downstairs, I find them a bit of a pain. Sockets drop to the floor and hide themselves and they can sometimes be a danger because they a...

THIS STUFF IS GREAT TO THE LAST DROP

THIS STUFF IS GREAT TO THE LAST DROP

If you have ever had rust on something where it shouldnt be… this is the stuff for you! Directions are as simple as submersing your rusted piece in the solution from 30 minutes to as long as you can stand to wait. Evapo-rust has no detectable odor out of the bottle and is a pale yellow color. After i submersed my piece(antique c-clamp) for a few hrs, noticeable progress had been made. I wasnt quite satisfied after the piece hd been submersed after a few hrs, as it was in bad shape, so I...

Jet 12" Jointer - Planer

Jet 12" Jointer - Planer

I am pleasantly surprised at the construction and thoughtful design of this machine. It came in an extremely will built crate and it was perfectly adjusted right out of the crate. The 3HP, 220V motor showed no sign of being under powered when planing and jointing the 100 bd ft of quarter-shawn white oak I had to run. I really like the high fence for jointing and I had no problem putting a straight edge on 8’ and 9’ boards. I felt the 55” tables were not too short to do this ...

Bent Laminate Walnut Rocker

Bent Laminate Walnut Rocker

I recently saw some photos of a rocking chair designed and built by Jeff Miller of J. Miller Handcrafted Furniture.Jeff has been building and designing furniture for clients for about 25 years in Chicago. Jeff is also the reason I fell in love with designing and building fine furniture. I took a number of classes and worked as a part time apprentice with him for about 7 years. This walnut rocker is truly a masterpiece of his career in my mind. This rocker incorporates both solid and a sign...

Workshop Heating Solution

Workshop Heating Solution

1657 days ago by TheDane | 10 comments »

Winters get pretty cold where I live (Wisconsin) and my garage/shop, though it is attached to the house, could get pretty uncomfortable in winter time. Since I am not about to quit doing what I love for 4 or 5 months a year, I started looking into my options for heating the garage. Space is at a real premium down there, so whatever I chose had to be hung from the ceiling. There was already a 240-volt, unused service in the workshop, so electric heat was the way to go. I selected the Fah...

Let me start by saying I bought this tool based on a review on Lumberjocks, and even though I am rating it 3 stars overall, that is only because fractions of stars are not allowed. (I would rate it 3.95 stars.) I purchased this tool mostly out of a totally new medical condition found in woodworkers around the globe: IsawaninfomercialforthefeinmodelbutcantafforditbuthismightworksoreallywanttotryitandseeifsomethinglikethisisusefulsoIcanjustifyspendingthemoneyforthefeintothewifeitis I used...

first rate wall-mounted pencil sharpener

first rate wall-mounted pencil sharpener

1667 days ago by KDL | 14 comments »

Yeah, I know, it’s a pencil sharpener. But it’s a really good one like I remember from elementary school. I don’t have much luck with little plastic hand-held pencil sharpeners, and the Boston brand desktop sharpener in my office doesn’t give me a good, sharp point. So I bought a new sharpener for my shop. I bought it at an office supply store, I think it was Office Depot. I had a choice of a couple generic and in-store brand sharpeners, plus this X-ACTO. The...

Excellent Rubber Glove

Excellent Rubber Glove

Not your typical review and I know that a lot of other people use Nitrile gloves in the shop. I use the Advanced Tool Design Model ATD-6999 X-Large Blue Powder-Free, Fully Textured Nitrile Gloves, 100/box that I get from Amazon for about $9.00. What I like most about the gloves is the fit. I like that they are “roomy” without being loose and are very sturdy. I snag the gloves on lots of little bits here and there a lot and they seldom tear. I use them for finishing and in th...
