I can't believe these are 8 bucks

I can't believe these are 8 bucks

I didn’t feel like making my own bench dogs, I also didn’t feel like paying tons of money for them. In one of my many recent trips to woodcraft, I saw these and decided to try them out The Good They work. They fit snugly in the 3/4” holes I drilled and laid flat on the bench top. They are nylon, but appear to be very strong. I clamped down on my vise way more than I needed to a few times to see if they would crack or give. They didn’t. The flat faces are just the...

Excellent operation, easy installation, only one small problem

Excellent operation, easy installation, only one small problem

I recently installed Benchcrafted hardware in my new bench, and used their new Crisscross system. I had heard it was going to be available, and waited for it’s release before ordering my hardware. The one thing I wasn’t keen on with their previous style of leg vise hardware was the constant adjustments you have to make with the pin as you vary the size of the stock being clamped. With this system, that pin is eliminated, along with the parallel guide and roller supports. ...

Robo Reel Long Overdue Rated A+++

Robo Reel Long Overdue Rated A+++

This review is long overdue, which is a good thing. I wanted a long courtship. I don’t know if this thing has exploded into the World’s greatest invention or not; I’ve been out of it a bit. .See blog first at:http://lumberjocks.com/Bertha/blog/31229.OK, this thing seems expensive, that’s the first response. My experience with the unit warrants the price..Whether than go through the pros/cons, I’ll just stream-of-consciousness my experience with it..I installed it...

Now, this is the way to cut veneer !

Now, this is the way to cut veneer !

I am rapidly becoming a fan of Tools for Working Wood and the Gramercy line of specialty tools. This review is about the French style veneer saw but if you look closely, you will see their superb holdfasts being used as well. When you pick up this saw you know immediately that it is like no other veneer saw you (or at least I) have ever held before. It’s teeth are coarse for a veneer saw and it is heavy .... and that’s why it works so well. The blade itself is thin and cuts wi...

CMT Orange, Saw blade cleaner

CMT Orange, Saw blade cleaner

This is my first product review I’m writing, I can’t help myself. I’m impressed with the product so much I need to share my experience with it. I never took before pictures as I never believed it would work so well. I cleaned three blades and I thought all required sharpening and had broken teeth, ok but close. They were full of pitch and tar from all the rough timber I use so I finally got to it as they were all off the saw since the dado stack was on. This picture sh...

3M Sand Paper 150 gr.

3M Sand Paper 150 gr.

32 days ago by lumberjockey | 8 comments »

Hello there guys. This is my first review. After reading and learning from the reviews here, I felt that I should contribute something. Even though if it’s as trivial as sandpaper. I bought this sand paper from Lowes. I’ve always used the Norton brand sand papers and I couldn’t find any on the shelves at Lowes. And so I figured sand paper is sand paper. How much difference could there be. And also, it’s from 3M. And 3M is an good company with numerous excellent produc...

Lee Valley Veritas Quick Release Face Vise

Lee Valley Veritas Quick Release Face Vise

49 days ago by rdwile | 7 comments »

I recently replaced my bench’s front vise with the Lee Valley (Veritas) Quick Release Face Vise which according to my extensive reading is one of the best for this purpose. For me it was a very smooth installation as I could simply bolt it to the underside of the benchtop without much modification. The vise face was lined up on the template so it was flush with the top of my bench and I drilled the holes. The wooden jaw is bubinga with ebony shoulders to add some visual interest, I thin...

First of all, I’d like to explain that this is not the saw I have ordered from Home Depot Canada.A guy made a mistake somewhere and sent me this one instead of the 13 Amp 6536-21.After multiple calls, they offered to refund less than the difference but I had to use the saw anyway soI kept it. HD really s**ks in Canada. Last time I buy stuff from them. So I have received the 6519-22. The metal locks on the case are working very well. The case is just big enough for the saw, even the ma...

Pretty much what I was looking for.

Pretty much what I was looking for.

63 days ago by muleskinner | 6 comments »

I wanted to add a foot switch to a scroll saw I just bought. The pedal types seemed better suited to a sitting position (I was thinking sewing machine). I will be standing so I looked for a low profile that had the pivot at the top. I ordered this one ($16.84) and received it yesterday. It’s available in three configurations: switch w/6ft pigtail; switch w/6ft cord and piggyback 15amp/120v plug; switch alone. I ordered the last option because I wanted a little bit longer cord and ...

Caution When Ordering

Caution When Ordering

68 days ago by andy_P | 10 comments »

These are sold as a pair. From the description in the catalog one would think that there is a right and left stop. Actually both stops are identical and will only work on a table saw in the right hand position. This item was quite thoroughly covered under the forum topic of “Has Anyone Purchased The Flip Stop From MLCS”. They may or may not work for your application. MLCS was very good when several of us contacted them about the product. Although we all have our beliefs as ...
