Medium Density Overlay (MDO) Plywood for Jig Building and General Use
47 days ago by Jerry | 27 comments »
As an alternative to the less than ideal MDF, a cabinetmaker friend of mine recently turned me onto “MDO”, aka “Signboard”. It is made up of phenolic resin coated paper laminated between layers of ply (11 layers of wood in 3/4”) and twice again as many of the phenolic- resin impregnated paper. Its what roadsigns are made of, its waterproof, flat , flat, flat and did I mention waterproof? You wont find it in Home Depot or Lowes, I have looked. I have had success at many of the local lumbery...

All i have to say is WOW!! these are my first LN products and they are amazing i got them for christmas and i love them. with the old ones that i had i would sit there for about 5 minutes just burnishing the heck out of them but i could never get anything more than dust. i opened these up today and took them downstairs to the shop. after a light burnishing for about 1 minute i was getting shavings! Thats right SHAVINGS! i can’t wait until i have some time to properly hone and really giv...
A great source of exotic woods
127 days ago by reggiek | 15 comments »
I had the pleasure of finding a wonderful source of exotic woods for projects and turnings. Searching through the internet search engines, I came accross a posting for a small company located about 20 or so miles away from my home. They listed some very nice items….and had pictures which I could view and select. I went through their postings and found numerous one of a kind pieces. I selected only a few of the ones I wanted and purchased with an indication that I would pick them up....
Simple Green Again
128 days ago by Kindlingmaker | 18 comments »
I know there have been many praises and reviews for Simple Green to clean all kinds of saw blades but I read another praise in “Woodworkers Resource” about mixing Simple Green 1:4, 1 part Simple Green to 4 parts water. The author let the blades soak for 3 hours and said it worked as good or better than any other product for removing build up on saw blades. I have tried mineral spirits, paint thinner, gasoline, and just about everything else with small success, so I mixed up 1 gallon of Simpl...

I want to let everyone know who doesn’t know or who has not visited the website prowoodworkingtips.com to please take the time to do so.. when I started out to make the tv lift cabinet and try my hand at veneering.. it was Lee Jesberger and his website that made my life so much easier.. I made all the jigs and bought all the tools he recommends on his site and ever asked Lee himself where to buy certain things I could not find at my local Rockler store.. the site is extremely informativ...
Not Heavy Duty Enough for Reclaiming Hardwoods
128 days ago by PurpLev | 11 comments »
I ordered this to tackle the nail pulling process I encountered while reclaiming some Bowling alley floors. As I mentioned in a comment on my blog, I usually am not inclined to order anything online that I have not been able to experience first hand. but since I was desperate, and it just so happened that this product was mentioned a couple of times here and there just when I was looking for nail pulling devices, I figured I’d take the plunge and go for it – a little out of the us...
mail order hardwood lumber

This is a wood source review. I was impressed enough with the vendor to want to post. They are knowledgeable and personable. I’m building cabinets and wanted quartersawn/rift cherry for the door rails and stiles. My local supplier doesn’t separate cherry into rift and quartered, so I went to the Internet and found http://www.dunham-hardwoods.com. Marty, the gentleman I dealt with, understood what I wanted, was able to find the material, hit-or-miss plane it, cut it to a shi...
This is a special new website for woodworkers to sell their creations.
176 days ago by Dick, & Barb Cain | 11 comments »
I don’t sell any of my creations, but there’s lot of Lumberjocks here that are trying the best they can to market their creations. So here’s a new place you can advertise. Why don’t you check out Woodshoppers This site was created by one of our members, Krum, & her son Paul. I recently had success selling my Ryobi powercarver on this site. I had advertised it on craigslist for a long time, with no results. I think it’s worth a try to s...
Magic Oil

I don’t have a single new power tool in my shop. I have inherited quite a collection and what I don’t have i like to buy from craigslist / ebay. This means that I do a lot of cleaning up and rust removing. So far I have bought a ridged contractor table saw circa 2000 a delta homecraft jointer circa 1950. As you can Imagine they didn’t run so smooth at first. The table saw had been rusting in an aircraft hanger for a few years and had a light coating of rust on everything....
A great product

I’ve used this product for years. I picked it up at a wood show and I’ve not seen it since. You can buy it online, but I need to find a supplier. I use this product on bandsaw blades, especially good when resawing. I also use it on my Mortising machine to lubricate the drill bit in the chisels. It makes the chips slide easier and cuts down on the heat generated by all of the wood going through the chisels. The Par Enterprises web site
