Segmented Turning, A Good Beginning by Bill Kandler

Segmented Turning, A Good Beginning by Bill Kandler

8iowa mentioned Bill Kandler’s book in one of his posts, and since I was ready to start on segmentedturning and was trying to design a miter sled, I checked out his site. He not only had a miter sled, but hegave a free download of it’s design and how to build it. Naturally, like any woodworker, (we all seem to thinkwe can boil water better than the next guy syndrome) I am tweaking it to suit myself. Bill gives this awayin spite of the fact that he wants to sell you the complete...

csc 2000 from psi

csc 2000 from psi

I have had my csc2000 chuck for over a month now and its way more then I expected for the price. I have turned a few bowls and a couple 11 inch plates plus a few baby rattles and have had zero problems with it. I bought it through Amazon and saved a few dollars. I recently bought the spindle drive for it and only tried it a few times but it work like it should, saves time in that I don’t have to remove the chuck to turn between centers. I have it mount on cheap craftsman lathe and al...

Easywoodtools faceplate

Easywoodtools faceplate

This deserves more than 5 stars. High quality at a good price. Item F625 I got myself in a situation where I needed 2 faceplates at the same time. The other in the second picture is made by Don Pencil, another very good one. I looked around the web and decided on this one. Woodcraft had it at the exact same price that easywoodtools did, so I cut out the middleman. It was on my front porch almost 24 hours after I ordered it. It came from Lexington, Ky. That’s about a 2 hour driv...

A nice chuck for cheap

A nice chuck for cheap

1204 days ago by bobasaurus | 10 comments »

I purchased the PSI Barracuda 2 chuck system off Amazon to improve my ability to make bowls. The price was very reasonable considering the good quality and extra accessories included. There are four sets of jaws that cover any tenon diameter I could need, and an attachment to make it into a screw chuck. It’s threaded for a 1” dia 8 tpi spindle, which fits my old Delta lathe perfectly (there’s also an adapter for 3/4 16 included). The chuck jaws have ridges to keep a stro...

Kelton ER Collet Handles

Kelton ER Collet Handles

1262 days ago by Barbara Gill | 2 comments »

I have not bought any new woodturning tools in over a year. After hearing about the Kelton ER collet handles I decided they would be just the system I needed. Today I have been using them and they are even better than I had been told. Not only are the handles very easy on the hands, including not being cold to the touch but they also have helped me solve several problems. One of those problems was space; I simply had more tools than room. I have removed the wood handles from all of the mos...

2Sand.com Where Price Meets Value!

2Sand.com Where Price Meets Value!

I am always on the lookout for quality products at a low price. Since I started turning I have been looking for power sanding accessories that are a better value than what is available through Woodcraft. After quite a bit of searching and comparing I finally decided to give 2Sand.com a shot. After my 1st test drive of their Blue Micron Bowl Sanding Discs I am really impressed! Price When comparing price to Woodcraft there is not comparison. A 5 disc pack Hook & Loop discs from Woodc...

Pictures for Alba

Pictures for Alba

I mentioned a cross slide rest to Alba thinking it might help him and his “Jolly Rogues” in some way. He askedme to show some pictures, so here are the pictures and my review, I will do a blog on the rebuild of this wonderful old machine later. The Cross Slide Rest was originally made by Delta to enable people to do metalwork on a lathe. I am a 71 year young craftsman with a slightly hard used body, I just did not think my parts would wear out this quick, so I have a little pro...

Thompson Lathe Tool Handles

Thompson Lathe Tool Handles

1370 days ago by Big_Bob | 5 comments »

I was looking for two new lathe tool handles when I stumbled across the Thompson website. I was intrigued by the idea that the handles were square and not round. They are not truly square because the edges are rounded over, but they are not the traditional round shape. The idea being the turner’s right hand can feel the shape of the tool and know where the flute of the tool is facing. If for example the flat part is facing up then the flute is up if the edge is up then the flute is facing...

Easy Finisher

Easy Finisher

I have been wanting to purchase or at least use one of these for a while now. I went to the Woodcraft Octoberfest, they had a demo station for the whole set, and a discount. I tried them and decided this would work very well for the inside of the lamp shades I am making as Christmas presents this year. If it weren’t for that project I would never have been able to pull the trigger on such a pricey tool. I am impressed, even when I did have catches, there was no real damage done to t...
