What did I get myself into?

I recently sold my 15-year old Jet contractors saw on Craigslist with the intention of upgrading to Grizzly’s new hybrid saw. I was tired of the extraneous sawdust the Jet produced even though I had the saw connected to a 2 HP Grizzly dust collector. Other than that, the Jet came perfectly set up, and I never had to make any adjustments through its 15 years of dedicated service. I received the new Grizzly G0715P this past Tuesday, and had a neighbor assist me in locating it to my b...

Ridgid R4512 Table Saw -- Full Review

Ridgid R4512 Table Saw -- Full Review

03-28-2011 07:09 PM by Furnitude | 39 comments »

The Ridgid R4512 saw has features—including an integral lift/caster mechanism, a tool-less blade guard and riving knife, an accurate fence and good dust collection—on par with much more expensive saws. While it’s easy to get caught up in comparing tolerances, the most important thing to know about a table saw is whether it will do what you need it to do within your budget and space constraints. I generally make furniture and small items in my basement shop. I need a table saw that...

Finally - a real table saw!

Finally - a real table saw!

I didn’t do any actual woodworking today, but I did do the next best thing – I got a new (to me) tool and worked on it! I bought a used Craftsman 221240 for $200 last week and it was delivered today, 3/19/2010. I paid to have it moved since it weighs about 400 pounds and I didn’t have an easy way to move it myself. Otherwise, my plan was to take it apart and move it that way. Now I almost wish I’d done that since I just about took it all apart anyway after it was de...

Nifty saw made even better by nifty upgrades

Nifty saw made even better by nifty upgrades

I have owned this Ridgid R4510 for about two weeks. During that time I have cut a fair amount of wood with it, and the unit works very well, indeed. The blade growls a bit as it comes up to speed, but once there the operation is smooth as silk. The fence was aligned square out of the box, as was the blade (which I replaced with a new Freud unit for precise ripping work, saving the Ridgid blade for rough-and-tumble stuff), and even the wheels were attached when I unpacked it. I did several ...

Shop Fox w1820

Shop Fox w1820

I have had my new Shop Fox for about 2 weeks now and I’d like to think that I have put it through the paces by now. The saw is 230v and 3hp, comes with dado insert, push stick, blade, wrenchs, etc. It took roughly 2 hours or so to get this thing put together and ready to go. I looked at the Grizzly g0691, but didn’t like that I could be denied the liftgate by the trucker, I live at the end of a cul-de-sac, so I went with the Shop Fox, there is a dealer 30 miles from me. Movi...

Excellent Saw for the Cost

Excellent Saw for the Cost

03-17-2011 03:18 PM by Wodbug | 23 comments »

After reading the many reviews here both pro & con, and seeing the many years all of them were written, I thought to start a new thread to add my 2 cents worth. My saw was bought in 2005, replacing a 25 year old 10” Craftsman that was given to a close friend. The pro & cons: The fence is quite flimsy and very difficult to keep adjusted, so I bought a 26” utility fence from Rockler. After a tedius install having to drilll additional holes for brackets, and using some angled ...

my review of the new unisaw

my review of the new unisaw

03-06-2011 04:27 AM by sawdustphill | 7 comments »

Extes- express delivered my new 3hp unisaw on march first. It came in five boxes. when I opened the bigbox I noticed I didn’t get the black folder they advertise my manuals were in a plastic bag, I don’t know whatsup with that And the wrench did not have the soft grip on it, I think delta is trying to cheapen up. But on a posative note the drawer was metal with full extension drawer slides, not the cheap mdf I saw on the one they had at woodcraft in Lexington, Ky. The throat open...

Polar Bear in Arizona (4-1/2 stars)

Polar Bear in Arizona (4-1/2 stars)

- Delivery and Assembly: I recently bought a Grizzly G0175P Hybrid Table Saw, mainly to get dust collection capability with relatively low operating noise, and I wasn’t disappointed. Delivery was prompt and the packaging was effective with no visible damage. Lacking a forklift or loading dock in my garage, I did have to pay Grizzly an extra $34 freight charge for lift gate delivery. Fit and finish at first glance looked excellent. The components, including the 2 hp motor,...

Preface The original purpose of this review was to review, in detail, the Steel City 35990G table saw from a first hand user point of view. In the end, I ran into a couple of problems that I just could not put aside. I hope you find the review helpful if you are considering this saw. Purchase & Shipping My wife purchased this saw as a Christmas present. Purchased from Amazon, shipped by freight (Pilot). Pilot missed the delivery date, but delivered the next day and the package lo...

Grizzly Cabinet Saw Review G0690

Grizzly Cabinet Saw Review G0690

01-15-2011 06:05 AM by Sherwood | 12 comments »

I’ve used LumberJocks extensively to look at reviews of tools so I thought I would join and contribute with some content of my own. I purchased this table saw about 2 months ago and have been happy with my decision. Grizzly has recently started to ship to Canada so this has opened another possibility with regard to the saws I looked at. In summary I considered General, Delta, Jet, SawStop and decided on Grizzly because of the value for the money and I like the company and owners stor...
