SawStop 1.75HP Cabinet Saw with 36" rails review

06-30-2011 02:44 AM by Ty | 10 comments »

After much contemplation, I purchased the SawStop 1.75 Cabinet Saw with 36” rails. For several years, the only table saw I ever experienced was a Delta contractor saw. So yes, SawStop is a HUGE upgrade. First, the assembly directions are extremely well done. Absolutely no problem putting this saw together, other than the Woodcraft employee who didn’t know what SawStop was and failed to give me the correct rails. Aside from that issue, I was able to assemble the saw approximat...

PLEASE NOTE I have edited this review after a few weeks with the saw. Here is the original review and my update follows: I accidentally spent the whole day in the garage assembling my new Ridgid saw. So here are my impressions: The saw is very sturdy, and assembly was very easy despite a few typos and some items that were not clearly identified. All the parts are well machined, and everything has a good but not excessive coat of cosmoline. I will not that there are several review...

Blade alignment issues all of the sudden

Blade alignment issues all of the sudden

I purchased this saw as an upgrade February 2010, at a very good price with the blessings of my wife. I initially had some of the same issues others had with the set up of this TS. My son saw an entry in LJ’s that very helpful and I joined. I changed the bolts, washers, etc. What was the most help was an entry that suggested loosening the 45/90 set screws in front of the blade and everything just fell right into place. The saw was packed well, it did not have damage and/or missin...

So I bought a Sawstop. I was perfectly happy with my General International granite topped TS, but I have been increasingly concerned about my safety when using it. Namely, I’m an ER doctor, and need my fingers or most of them at least. I debated for a long time about this saw, and whether a) if I needed it (as I already am a very safe and careful TS user…most days) and b) if it really would help prevent a serious injury. In answer to “a”: I realized that as careful as I am using the TS, ...

After reading some positive reviews about this tablesaw I finally decided to pull the trigger only to find some unfavorable reviews after. Hopefully my review helps others make a decision either way. My previous tablesaw is an old Craftsman built in 1971. It’s like an old hybrid saw and well built but lacked dust collection and a splitter or riving knife. Safety is a big concern and this is a positive step until I can purchase a Sawstop cabinet saw.The package arrived in good shape...

Grizzly G0715P newbies point of view.

First off, I’d like to say a few things to give you a bit of context around my review. This is the first table saw I have ever owned, so I have nothing to compare it to. I have been using it now for 4 months, I meant to write a review right away, but I am glad that I waited as my feelings for the saw have changed a bit. Now on to the review. Price: $859 Assembly Time: 5 hours. —————————————- ...

Kudos to Grizzly for an easy Saw to set up

Kudos to Grizzly for an easy Saw to set up

This review is just for unloading and assembling the Grizzly G0690 10” 3hp cabinet saw. and I will say that most of you will not need the manual at all as far as assembly is concerned. I was very impressed with the construction and workmanship of this saw and the price wasn’t bad either. After getting the saw on the ground and in the shop, we unpacked and checked for any damages. The way they pack these things, is almost impossible to receive damage in normal handling. Everything ...

Grizzly G0690 vs. G0715P

Grizzly G0690 vs. G0715P

05-15-2011 11:24 PM by Alpiner | 17 comments »

If you had read my previous review of Grizzly’s G0715P hybrid saw that I received week before last, you know that I had a serious unsafe issue with it, and I received permission from Grizzly to return it. It’s been reboxed, and will be picked up by UPS freight Tuesday. I was leery of getting the same saw again, so I went ahead and ordered a new G0690 cabinet saw, which is what I was considering ordering in the first place. I just wasn’t sure if the $500 price difference w...

I recently sold my 15-year old Jet contractors saw on Craigslist with the intention of upgrading to Grizzly’s new hybrid saw. I was tired of the extraneous sawdust the Jet produced even though I had the saw connected to a 2 HP Grizzly dust collector. Other than that, the Jet came perfectly set up, and I never had to make any adjustments through its 15 years of dedicated service. I received the new Grizzly G0715P this past Tuesday, and had a neighbor assist me in locating it to my b...

Ridgid R4512 Table Saw -- Full Review

Ridgid R4512 Table Saw -- Full Review

03-28-2011 07:09 PM by Furnitude | 39 comments »

The Ridgid R4512 saw has features—including an integral lift/caster mechanism, a tool-less blade guard and riving knife, an accurate fence and good dust collection—on par with much more expensive saws. While it’s easy to get caught up in comparing tolerances, the most important thing to know about a table saw is whether it will do what you need it to do within your budget and space constraints. I generally make furniture and small items in my basement shop. I need a table saw that...
