For the money, not a bad saw.

For the money, not a bad saw.

I bought this saw several years ago as my first table saw. I shopped around for what I could afford and decided that this was the one I wanted. In no way to I regret that decision. Coming into the hobby from the ground up I wanted a saw that had all its parts. I would have been pretty clueless about any Craigslist buy as to features, missing pieces, etc. Aside from the metal stand, there was no assembly necessary to get this saw up and running. Everything was aligned properly and has served...

Review of Steel City Saw after a year

Review of Steel City Saw after a year

Okay, Having owned my Steel City 35911G saw for about a year now I thought I would do a little follow-up. First off, I am happy with this saw. The fit and finish are acceptable, not too beefy so as to make it cumbersome, and not to chinsy to make it rickety, if that makes any sense. If you are a woodworker who likes everything to weigh as much as a WWII era tank, you may want to look elsewhere. The Granite definitely makes this saw heavy, but the rest of the saw is practical. The situation...

First Impressions - PM1000 (further review to follow)

This is my first review (as I am a new member of lumberJocks). This is also just a initial impressions review, as I just took delivery and set up the saw today. I just recently started building a shop in the basement of my home. Moving out of the attached garage and into a climate controlled area has been wonderful. The only real tools (not that there really is an end to the number of tools a guy needs..) i was still in need of, were a ventilation system, a dust collector and a table saw. ...

First impressions: Ridgid Compact Table Saw

First impressions: Ridgid Compact Table Saw

I’ve been wanting—note I didn’t say “need” or any derivative thereof—a table saw for quite some time and when I saw this one, originally a Black Friday special, still available a few weeks after the Thanksgiving holiday and with an assortment of store credits and a Harbor Freight coupon in my pocket, I decided the $50 out-of-pocket outlay was worth it, especially with the lifetime warranty. Finally found one in stock, ran out to get it and after a good week...

Shop Fox W1819 Table Saw Review (Almost Great!)

Shop Fox W1819 Table Saw Review (Almost Great!)

I received my order neatly packaged in 3 boxes contained on a single pallet. I paid about $1500 which included lift gate delivery and an 8” dado blade set “valued at $150”. Nothing was damaged and all parts and hardware were accounted for. Saw took about 5 hours to assemble and align with no helpers. First thing that surprised me was the color which I don’t think is accurately depicted in any online literature. It has an almond color that can only be described a...

Better than other discount saws

Better than other discount saws

This saw is my first table saw. I got it used, otherwise I could not have afforded it. The saw is sold in Europe as AEG, probably in other regions under a different name. I believe Ryobi. This is a portable saw, equipped with wheels. The support legs fold up/down in a matter of seconds, and lock securely in transport. They act as a handle when up, so you can wheel away the saw like a wheel barrel. Quite nice. It’s no small saw, so it won’t fit in small cars, and the handle t...

My entire history with this saw thus far.

My entire history with this saw thus far.

The first 2/3 of this will be copied and pasted from the first impressions of the saw and my 6 month review of it on the forums here. The last section will be new. If you have already read my first 2 posts about this or don’t feel like reading it skip to section 3/3. _1/3 Purchased a 35990G as a floor model from my local Steel City warehouse distributor. I figured I’d leave some initial thoughts of the saw as there was not much out there for information before I purchased. ...

height adjustment

height adjustment

10-27-2014 10:08 AM by Scrollers | 1 comment »

I have owned this saw for almost two years. I am going to retire in a little over a year and I have been setting up my workshop with tools that I feel I will need at that time. I haven’t been able to work down there very much but have done some work there. My question is the height adjustment. It won’t go down. It is in the up position now but won’t move. It has been this way ever since I have had it but didn’t do any thing with because I didn’t have the time. No...

Great performer. Zero problems. 5 stars.

I bought the Grizzly G0690 about 6 months ago and feel like that’s enough usage to talk about my thoughts. It’s a damn good saw. I don’t have any major complaints after using it for this long. Just a couple nit-picky things that I don’t think justify bringing this down from 5 stars. After comparing prices on similar spec saws I would definitely buy this saw again if I had to do it all over. Pros:strong motorgreat fencelarge cast surfacebest value compared to other b...
