This is my first review on Lumberjocks, and my first Incra product purchased Price and PackagingI ordered the Incra I-Box through www.elitetools.ca here in Canada. I paid 149.00 Canadian with free shipping. It arrived in a narrow cardboard box. It was well packed without the dreaded hard plastic packaging that usually requires bandages. Reason for PurchaseI’m presently building my first workbench, ‘The No-So-Big Workbench’ by Ed Pirnik of Fine Woodworking. The plans ca...

Quality Control issues at Freud

Quality Control issues at Freud

I recently purchased this dado set at Woodcraft and after making my first dado cut I noticed a ridge in the middle of the cut, as if the chippers were a fraction smaller that the outside blades, I took it back and exchanged it for another, which did exactly the same thing. When I returned to Woodcraft they put it on one of their table saws and got the same result, a noticeably higher ridge in the middle of the dado cut making the bottom uneven. They began pulling all these off their shelves...

Best plate out there

Best plate out there

ColliBeck has recently manufactured a replacement throat plate for the new Delta Unisaw. After buying several of the Delta phenolic plates at $60+ and they are either twisted slightly or bowed there is finally a plate that is perfectly flat, doesn’t flex and it’s the last plate you will need to buy. Recently I purchased a white aftermarket phenolic and having to send it back because it was bowed .014 I started looking for something better. I found it. I run a small cabinet s...

A lot for very little

A lot for very little

I thought my saw was reasonably vibration free for a contractor but on start up and especially shut down it would give a slight shudder. After years of ignoring advice to buy a link belt I did and am sorry I waited so long because it’s like having a new saw. I only thought my saw ran smooth but now there is no more shudder even at shut down and I’d swear it cuts a little smoother though that might be psychosomatic. If you’ve been wanting to try a link belt and have been putt...

I had become frustrated with my wooden, shop-made feather boards. I could never get the length of the “feathers” or the spacing/gaps between them to be just right for the type and thickness of wood being used. They were either too stiff or too weak. Knowing I was going to be ripping a considerable amount of thin stock, I wanted something safer, so I decided to give Harbor Freight a try. I’ve used this feather board every day for the past month – mainly on my TS b...

incra i-box a nice little jig

incra i-box a nice little jig

459 days ago by awlee | 6 comments »

I’m a fan of Incra tools and was very happy to get the I-box jig for box joints as a gift. The jig is sturdy, made of extruded aluminum and MDF, and includes an instructional DVD. Set up is easy. The instructions in both the DVD and the handbook are clear and easy to follow. I set mine up for a table saw, though there is an option to set up for a router table too; and one can go back and forth between table saw or router table without much fussing. Set up took me an hour-and-a-half (but ...

I like the new design of Infinity's zero clearance insert.

I like the new design of Infinity's zero clearance insert.

I am not affiliated with Infinity in any way. This review refers to the design made on 3/1/13. Infinity has made modifications to the design of their ZCI for Sawstop that allows the saw blade to operate at full height. It’s machined out of aluminum and anodized red. The new unit doesn’t need the moving mechanism that sawstop uses. Fit and finish are great. Infinity drilled access holes in the plate so it’s easy to adjust the height of the insert from above the tabl...

Problems and fixes

Problems and fixes

One problem is that because its made of 2 pieces of plastic glued together it will break apart at the seam. You can try to glue it back together but it soon comes apart again. (This is an update 40 days after the first post. Walmart sells a 3pk of generic super glue for 89 cents. I glued it up and clamped it lightly over night. It seems to be holding up fine.) Other than that, I love this thing. It will move the fence thousandths at a time, allowing you to sneak up on a precise cut. If ...

Delta 78-963 Biesemeyer T-Square Anti Kickback Snap in Splitter -Not what it should be

Delta 78-963 Biesemeyer T-Square Anti Kickback Snap in Splitter -Not what it should be

539 days ago by mrg | 12 comments »

I bought this back in December thinking it would be a good replacement since I did not have the factory splitter on my saw. The thought was lets make it safer until I buy my new saw. I had read many mixed reviews on the splitter and figured that maybe the bad reviews had to do with how people had been installing the splitter. It is just like any other splitter that you find on the uni-saw and the later contractor saws that have been discontinued. I got it home unboxed it, removed the ol...

This a great feature to have moving a heavy piece of machinery like a table saw. Assembly was a piece of cake. There are a lot of nuts and bolts so it does take a bit of time. Rolls my new 340 lb plus G0661 table saw very easily. Can be adjusted from 20” x 20” to 29 1/2” x 29 1/2”. Can support 700 lbs. Heavy duty castors. Nice fit and finish.
