Incra's 52inch LS positioner package!

Incra's 52inch LS positioner package!

12-21-2009 05:28 AM by BigBard | 16 comments »

One year ago I began the quest to make things from wood. I have learned so much in one year and I still have a long way to go. After a satisfying purchase of a Incra1000se miter gauge, I thought I couldn’t go wrong with this LS positioner plunge. I was right, this system cuts extremely accurate. That micro-adjust knob is excellent, you can move it by the thousands of an inch. You can truly move the fence with shear accuracy. The wonderfence did take a few extra steps to square up but it...

Way Better Than Home Made Inserts

Way Better Than Home Made Inserts

I was going to do the usual cutting and fitting and fussing with making myself some ZCIs’ for my new Unisaw. Then I thought about exploring the world of commercially made inserts. there are allot to choose from. I was going to go with a system by Lee Valley/Veratris. It has very cool interchangeable plates and a single Alum. insert. But it was a little more than I wanted to pay ($79.00) for an insert. So I was at Woodcraft yesterday buying wheels, and I saw the Leecraft. It seemed reall...

 Incra TS-LS Table saw fence

Incra TS-LS Table saw fence

12-05-2009 03:55 AM by Greg..the Cajun Wood Artist | 12 comments »

I have been reading about the Incra Table Saw fence for a while now and finally decided to bite the bullet (or bite the wallet) and buy one. All that I can say is that this fence lives up to all the expectations I have of it. This gave me the opportunity to do a fine tuning of my Grizzly saw and adjust everything that could possibly be fine tuned before installing the Incra fence system. The setup was easy and fast with the well written instructions. Easy to install and easy to adjust. I spe...

7 1/4" thin kerf blade for your table saw.

7 1/4" thin kerf blade for your table saw.

Haven’t used a thin kerf blade before so I purchased the 7 1/4” Freud Diablo Demo Demon Circular Saw blade for $15 from Home Depot just to see what all the hype is about thin kerf blades. What a difference and the price is right. Noticed that my saw sounds different and stops faster. There is significantly less dust. The saw feels more powerful when I’m cutting. The kerf is about 1/16” and the wood is ash.The blade stands at 1 3/4” when raised at it’...

Great Product (after you modify them)

Great Product (after you modify them)

11-22-2009 02:01 AM by SteveMI | 3 comments »

I got a used TS couple monts ago that was an upgrade to me. It has the standard 3/4” miter slots in the cast iron table unlike my prior aluminum. So, while browsing the local Woodcraft for feather boards I saw the JessEm and thought to give them a try. Today I had a chance to actually use them and found they are a great product, but are having some manufacturing problems. The key to the design are some rectangle head bolts that slide in slots molded in the plastic feather boards a...

Happy With My First Blade Purchase

Happy With My First Blade Purchase

So as promised (in Knottscott's review of the Delta 35-7657), here’s my review of its 60-tooth cousin. The night Scott reviewed that blade, I noticed Tooliday had the 60-tooth version up for $25, plus $5 S/H. I had been looking at Freud blades that were about $20-30 more, so I thought what the heck, I’ll give it a shot. I’ve been using a single 40-tooth blade for everything (came with the tablesaw I bought used of Craigslist), along with painters tape to keep the chippin...

Nice Tenoning jig, but....

I had to modify it, by drilling new holes for the miter bar to use it on my Ridgid TS3612 saw. It has 2 sets of holes in it, but one set put it on top of my blade and the other set put it too far away. It was very easy to assemble other than this but after assembling it and adjusting it. It has 3 adjustable screws to fit your miter slot. It can be used for any angled tenon from 0 to 45 degrees. Wish I had bought one sooner.

Tenryu Gold Medal Dado Not Exactly What I Had Hoped For.

Tenryu Gold Medal Dado Not Exactly What I Had Hoped For.

This is a brief review of the Tenryu GMD. First Impression: The blades look of extremely high quality with thick bodies. Box: I personally don’t like the wood box because you have to lift out all of the chippers in order to get to the outer blades. Cut Quality: The side blades are excellent in MDF, and Plywood core veneers, as well as melamine. The bottom of the dado is the flattest, smoothest that I have seen. I’ve owned two previous dado sets, one from Systi-Matic, and ...

Great for uneven floors

Great for uneven floors

10-14-2009 06:39 AM by DannyBoy | 8 comments »

From the start, I needed to make sure that my saw would be movable. With a small shop, floor space is at a premium and it only makes things difficult to admit that my floor is not at all level and even. This system took care of both of those needs. The casters are well built and work well on the uneven floor. Plus, once you are done moving the unit, you flip it down onto it’s own feet right into your floors sweet-spot. Two bits of advice: First, you probably won’t matc...

Great TS Upgrade For A Very Reasonable Price

Great TS Upgrade For A Very Reasonable Price

09-30-2009 02:18 AM by dfarr | 13 comments »

I’ve always struggled with the cheap blade adjustment cranks (pictured right) on my 70s vintage table saw. I found these cast iron handwheels (H3189 – Cast Iron Handwheel – 6”) and chromed handles (H3205 – 4” x 3/8”-16) on the Grizzly web site. The handwheels were only $8.50 and the handles were $2.95. This was a great deal compared to other places I’ve looked at similar handwheels. The wheels come with a small center hole that I had to bore ou...
