A mobile base for Canadians

A mobile base for Canadians

I picked up this mobile base a couple of weeks ago for my new Grizzly 513p bandsaw. It was on sale for 65% off the regualr price of $99.99 so I thought what do I have to lose and I didn’t expect much. But the base performs excellent on the 350lb saw. The only negative about it is that in order to operate the cams that lifts the base up so the casters can make contact requires a little help by slightly pushing upward on the saw. But still very easily managed. The base is easily move...

warning just got this today, this is a first look review The Woodsmith Store had this General mobile base on sale for $60, the staff also recommended it. It took me about 15-20 mins to put together, all I needed was a couple wrenches. It’s my first mobile base and I can’t believe I lived without one. Much better than dragging around my Delta contractor table saw. I would have preferred one lever to engage the wheels and move it but stepping on 2 each time isn’t too to...

Affordable Mobile Base

Affordable Mobile Base

I have a 12ft x 14ft shop and needed a mobile base for my tablesaw. I purchased a mobile base for my jointer/planer a few months back that I’m not happy with so I decided to try this one out from Wood River. The instructions were pretty easy to follow and it didn’t take long to get it assembled. The base rolls great around the shop and the metal cam levers are very easy to engage and disengage with your foot. A word of caution: Be careful when disengaging the wheels when you hav...

X-Horse ---They're BACK

X-Horse ---They're BACK

I did a review on this indispensible tool a few months back. It appeared at the that these were unfortunately dropped from Home Depots inventory. That was a sad day even for someone that already has two of them. Well wandering through HD’s isles the other day, I found a whole stack of them. The ones I have use aluminum pillars, whereas the new ones are using heavy plastic. I doubt the difference has any effect on the sturdiness of the stand/bench but I do like the pretty alumin...

Sawhorse with an attitude!

Sawhorse with an attitude!

I just got my B&D Workmate 125 put together. I’d heard horror stories about the assembly process, in fact, the guy that sold it to me at the B&D outlet told me not to pay too much attention to the instructions. He was right. The instructions are terrible, but I still got it together in about 30-45 minutes while watching TV. Granted, a number of the holes for the bolts didn’t line up very well, but with a set of vise grips, a few hammer taps and minimal cursing, it went...

Move over Big Foot...The Rockler All-Terrain Mobile Base Rules the Shop!

Move over Big Foot...The Rockler All-Terrain Mobile Base Rules the Shop!

I recently broke down and dropped some cash ($180) for this new product from Rockler. My shop space is limited and I have little space to move around my table saw. The parts are gigantic, and almost over the top, but in a good way. The wheels, thickness of steel and bolts are all over-sized. Assembly was so easy, there were no instructions…It can accommodate for just about any standard sized piece of small shop equipment, but it offers some extension sets (longer metal bars) to allow fo...

Ultimate saw horse/table

Ultimate saw horse/table

04-12-2009 03:09 PM by Scott Oldre | 12 comments »

This is the ultimate accessory in my garage shop. It, and it’s twin, gets pulled out on nearly every single project I take on. Sometimes it becomes semi permanent, and other times it’s out for an hour or two. I saw this table/horse about 2 years ago while strolling down the “Hey look at me, take me home” display isle at Home Depot and since I was with my wife she nonchalantly wiped the drool from my chin and said “Lets go to the plants now!” Since it wa...

Missed the mark

Missed the mark

I must admit, I know very few mobile bases that are actually worth much, and this one is no exception. The brakes have no chance of holding against a load; The entire setup is very unstable, everything wobbles; Universal = Universal from 24×24 to 36×36
