HF Mobile Base is Dead On and Rock Solid!

HF Mobile Base is Dead On and Rock Solid!

INTRO:I spent way too much time researching mobile bases. In the end, despite the nay sayers, I decided to give the HF mobile base a try. I paid $29.95 with a super coupon. ASSEMBLY:The metal brackets are very thick. I ripped some SYP I had lying around to the 1 1/4” x 1 1/4 dimension specified. There is a formula in the manual that tells you exactly how long to cut your wood pieces. As a double check, I placed each of the brackets (with bolts in place) against the 4 corners of ...

Harbor Freight Mobile Base with instructions

Harbor Freight Mobile Base with instructions

878 days ago by justholler | 10 comments »

As with many of the other posts on this item, the instructions were a sticking point. I found out just what that meant and this assembly took waaaaayyyy too long! Fortunately I was building it for a small Grizzly band saw so I used pine instead of hardwood. Had I used stock that was in short supply, I would have been further frustrated. The main issue is the instructions say nothing about where the wood pieces should stop in the frame. Once you start without the experience, you will be...

Perfect Home 4 in. Industrial Casters (4-Pack) ... An Accidental Find

Perfect Home 4 in. Industrial Casters (4-Pack) ... An Accidental Find

Previously, my other caster wheels I’ve used were ordered on-line from Rockler and I have been pleased. Friday, I wondered what casters were available locally (Lowe’s, Home depot, Ace, Tractor Supply, etc.). I used the internet to check out their line-ups, price and in-stock availability. I found pretty slim pickings. The few possibles I came across (as far as rating and size) were a ridiculous price each… and I needed twelve ! But, I came across these on the Ho...

Good Price Great Stand

Good Price Great Stand

I have seen a few reviews on Lumber Jocks ware the reviewer posted a review on a tool that has been owned for a few years and I thought, boy that makes a lot of sense. When you have had the tool for a few years I think you get to know the good the bad and ugly and sometimes great with more certainty.Today I am reviewing a Delta mobile miter saw/planer tool stand. I have also have seen this stand under the Porter Cable brand name. Although it sells under two names I am 90% sure they are the s...

Woodcraft's WoodRiver Mobile Base Kit

Woodcraft's WoodRiver Mobile Base Kit

1109 days ago by glassyeyes | 10 comments »

I recently mounted my bandsaw on a mobile base using Woodcraft’s WoodRiver Universal Mobile Base Hardware Kit. I have used similar kits before, and generally like them. Some of the features of this kit are a considerable improvement over past versions, but one change confuses me, and made it difficult to decide on an overall rating. THE GOOD: The kit is based on user-supplied lumber, such as plywood. Previously, the steel corners were equipped to take only one piece of nominal 3/...

It does what it says

I’ve never written a review before. But, there’s been many conflicting reviews on the internet such as Amazon and a few others about the difficulty of assembling the base. I’ve had no problems putting this together. However, the box did say “Improved Design”. Maybe that had something to do with it. It was quite simple, and the instructions were clear. The only reason I looked at the instructions was because some people were having such problems, that I was try...

HTC Portamate HTC PBR-001 PortaMate Wood Rack

HTC Portamate HTC PBR-001 PortaMate Wood Rack

1159 days ago by David Grimes | 8 comments »

I just added this to my still-going-together garage shop last week. I’m still moving in, but have already started a couple of projects. As usual, I’m left with some plywood drops that will be usable on future projects, but I needed a place to store them until that time. I had a spot that was not being used for anything else, so I ordered this wood rack. I paid $52.64 with free shipping. It arrived fully clothed and unbeaten by Fed-ex. Installation was twelve screws for the ...

Good n' uff

Good n' uff

[sorry for the lousy stock photo. Click on it to see the entire image] I bought this product about 8 months ago. At the time, they were on sale for $14.99. Thats about half what other roller stands of this quality cost and one-fifth of some of the pricier makes/models. When I got it home and took it out of the box, I inspected it for any obvious defects (bad welds, stripped hardware, etc). None were found. I then put it together with no issues. After assembly, I adjusted the stand to vario...

Pretty good, but could be better

Pretty good, but could be better

I recently embarked on a restoration project on an old Unisaw. Like a lot of folks working out of the garage, the mobile base is a requierment. I looked around at many of the bases on the market and was turned off by the cost of most of them. I had a hard time justifying $150 or more for one of these, regardless of how bad the need was. I finally settled on the HTC3000 heavy duty base that was rated at 700lbs. The Unisaw is a big heavy cabinet saw weighing in the neighborhood of 500lbs, so I ...

The Portamate PM7000 Miter Saw Stand and Power Tool Work Center

The Portamate PM7000 Miter Saw Stand and Power Tool Work Center

1200 days ago by David Grimes | 4 comments »

I just received this glorified miter saw stand. It was well packaged and delivered undamaged. Assembly was very simple and straightforward as were the instructions. I have been looking at this and the Craftsman version for quite some time. The only differences in the two are paint color (Portamate orange, Sear red), the Sears only has one wheel whereas the Portamate has two… and the Sears is about $50 higher in price. I got mine for $199, no tax and free shipping. This item co...
