Review of The Anarchist’s Tool ChestBy: Christopher Schwarz I have just re written the review slightly since I after reading it again could see that I could be read wrong in some passages, that they could be read like ‘personal’, I belive what is left now is not more personal than Schwarz’s choose to put us inside in his book. I never meant to harm Schwarz’s I try to review a book.(I posted a mark in the comments so you can se where the old and new comments is). Before I sta...

The Anarchists Tool Chest

The Anarchists Tool Chest

Mr. Schwarz really turned it up a notch with the Anarchists Tool Chest. This book was a deviation from some of his other books that I have read in that it contained a story. The story was woven underneath the information about the essential toolkit that a woodworker should but together. Mr. Schwarz explains how to put together a set of tools that will help a woodworker complete all the essential taks. The text includes information about choosing the right tools and how to use them correct...

One of the Best books I have read on Wood Finishing

One of the Best books I have read on Wood Finishing

While I try to grow, and become a more experienced finisher I have ran into some roadblocks along the way. Like most of us have, I’m sure. A few Lumberjocks recommended this book by Bob Flexner. I must say I will always keep this book close. Another fellow LJ posted the words below as well and I agreed so I used his review as well. Thx, Jeff. Most everyone would benefit from this book. While this is not a tool, this book has earned its spot as one of my most useful assets in my shop....

Tom Fidgen is one of our own. He’s been a Lumberjock for almost two years now. About three months ago he announced the completion of his book in THIS blog. I was shocked to see that he didn’t get much feedback from the blog post (only 9 comments). But I knew it was a book I was going to need in my collection. The book was released to Amazon and Boarders just in time for the holidays and I put it at the top of my Christmas list. Well let me tell you, it did not disappoint. I abs...

Starting an Outdoor Furniture Manufacturing Business

Starting an Outdoor Furniture Manufacturing Business

For as long as I can remember there have discussions here at Lumber Jocks about doing woodworking as a business or getting paid for the master pieces that come out of our shops. I know everyone that has enjoyed wood working or any other creative outlet has said to them self “How can I do this and make a living at it”? Well I ask the same question every time I am in the shop. I found what I consider about the most straight up and to the point, down and dirty “Here is how it’s done, but it’s no...

Having seen Many of Darrell Pearts fine Greene and Greene inspired most wonderful fine furniture pieces posted on LJ s I thought I would look at his profile and found his great web site were he had his book available so I decided to order one. When I Ordered this book my expectations were low because I’ve purchased artisans books from web site before and received anything from computer printed pages stapled together to what looks like a pamphlet with minimal information. After receiving...

A little anarchy might be good for the soul

A little anarchy might be good for the soul

Christopher Schwarz’s The Anarchists Tool Chest sounded, based on some reviews, to be a bit of a mixed bag. Many folks have compared it to other works, to varying degrees. My honest impression is that there really isn’t a book out there for the hand tool crowd. Schwarz’s work is a default go-to manual for the neophyte hand tool user, whether they’re new to woodworking or just new to hand tools. The first question anyone asks is “what do I need?” Inva...
