Summit HVLP - Budget Spraying

Summit HVLP - Budget Spraying

I purchased this HVLP system last year during a Black Friday special from peachtree woodworking for the extremely low price of something like $70. Regular retail appears to be $120, so please keep this in mind as you read my review. The package comes with a single stage 400W turbine, about 8’ of hose, a spray gun with a plastic siphon cup, and a spare needle and a spare air filter. Everything was in great shape out of the box, just needed to clean the grease off the internals. T...

Easy to use HVLP with great results

Easy to use HVLP with great results

I haven’t had had a chance to use this product to its full potential yet but the the projects I have used it on so far have turned out great. I attached a couple of pics of my most resent project I used it on. The time it saved me was amazing. This is my first time owning a HVLP system and I’m VERY pleased. Prior to this I ether did everything by hand or used my compressor / spray gun. I am much happier with the results. You can find the system normally on sale for around $300. We...

GREAT sprayer

So i bought the q4 in july 2012. I have used it a couple dozen times on everything from full kitchens to tiny wine balancers. I want to start by saying this is a great unit. I love the xpc gun. I dont have a crazy amount of experience spraying finishes but i have done my fair share over the years. I have used several different types and this is by far the best i have ever used. If your looking for a “high quality” hvlp system this is the one. I have used the Apollos and th...

I had to spray some General Finshes Enduro-Var water base poly. Not really poly as it is water based. After thining with about 15 percent water and a couple healthy squirts of General Finishes dry time extender I got the results I needed. A smooth flat top coat. After drying I used Micro-mesh sanding pads. 1500 to 12000 grit.I still need to get some 1 micron polish from Micro-mesh to get that extra eye popping mirror like finish.29 gal Harbor Freight commpressor 7.3 cfm at 40 psi and 5.9 at 9...

Earlex 5500 - Throw your brush away.

The day the previous post came out I had finished my fourth big job with this Earlex. My wife bought it for me for fathers day a few years ago, I got the kit that came with the extra needle (1.5mm). Before this I used a $14 HF HVLP sprayer with a very small compressor, I had to wait in between sprays for the compressor to cycle. I’ve sprayed Shellac, WB Poly, Latex, NGR Dye and a few other things with this sprayer. I just completed wainscoting in my daughters room and sprayed it wit...

LINK: http://www.woodcraft.com/Catalog/ProductPage2.aspx?id=2083184&ProdId=33566& Buy it. If you don’t have a spray gun but have been thinking about it, buy it. If you want to spray, but the cost is too high on those fancy/expensive systems, buy it. If every project needs to have a perfect, auto paint gloss finish, no matter how long it takes, then this is not the product for you. I have had mine for over a year now and it does exactly what it is supposed to do. Sure, ...

Surprising performance for a cheap spray gun

Surprising performance for a cheap spray gun

Several months ago, I bought this hopper type spray gun at Harbor Freight. I intended to use it to finish a batch of unfinished oak furniture we bought, but I chickened out and finished it all by hand because I didn’t trust this sprayer. Normally sells for $20, I think I paid $16 on sale. I don’t have a high capacity compressor, just a small 3.7 SCFM shown in the last picture, but this little gun didn’t care. It would never work to paint a house or fence, but to have in t...

Earlex Spray Station 5500 Review

Earlex Spray Station 5500 Review

If you are looking into getting started in the world of HVLP this is where you want to begin. At a fairly low entry price compared to other HVLP units this unit is a performer too. I ordered the unit from Highland WoodWorking and they shipped me out to it in about 3 business days. The total package cost $325 dollars including sipping. The sprayer comes with a 2.0mm needle and tip and I would recommend buying the additonal 1.5 mm needle and tip. The Earlex 5500 comes with the base, air h...

Great for paint

Great for paint

Let me start out by saying that I am pretty new to spray finishes of any kind. I recently built some MDF shelves and got about half way through the first coat of primer on the first shelf when I remembered how much I hate painting. So I tried to get the wife to do it, then when I realized that wasn’t going to happen I set about finding a faster/easier method. I have an Earlex HVLP system, but from the 1 or 2 times I’ve tried to use it to spray paint I’ve found the proce...

My New Rockler HVLP Spray System

My New Rockler HVLP Spray System

04-03-2012 10:36 PM by Jorge Velez | 5 comments »

It’s been about 6 wks since I purchase this Rockler Spray System I’m very happy with the performance of this product. I own a small compressor and I had been using this for quite some time but I was kind of annoying with the level of noise and the fact that is not as portable as I wanted to be, this Spray system is fully portable and bit less noisy, however I had made an plywood enclosure and reduce the noise. I dont have a way to measure the noise levels but certainly is lower...
