Dylos DC1100 PRO with Serial Interface: Evaluation and Testing

The DC1100 PRO (with Serial Interface) is a true laser particle counter with the ability to count particulate mater suspended the air. There are two size ranges for the PRO model: between 0.5 and 2.5 microns, and greater than 2.5 microns. Several models are available but I felt that for a woodworking shop the stuff less than 2.5 microns was the most important particulate to measure since it is probably the most dangerous. This was purchased through a group buy offered by the Canadian woo...

It retails for $19.99 but I got it on sale for $9.99. I would give it a 5 star rating! AJ

Work well, annoying to adjust

Work well, annoying to adjust

I used two of these for my cross cut sled I just made. At 5.99 each, they looked like a good value. I was unable to find many reviews on line, so I figured I would give them a shot. The goodThey can be clamped down pretty tight to hold the piece in placeThey are inexpensive (~6.00)Everything turns well on the bolt. No stripping The BadI don’t like the design. These have two locking mechanisms. There is a knurled knob at the bottom that locks the bolt to the track. After locked to ...

Tool Band-It By Billy Mays!

Tool Band-It By Billy Mays!

OK, Don’t laugh. My wife was browsing through a small Korean Dollar store in College Station whilst I was doing some serious research at Harbor Freight. In a big tub of discounted stuff that she found was a whole pile of “Tool Bandit’s” magnetic arm bands. She bought one on a whim, for 50ยข and put it in the trunk with the rest of her loot. When we got home she gave it to me I was somewhat surprised and the first thing I noticed was the weight of the thing. Probably...

How to clean your shop(and other places too)I have the blessed opportunity to use a very good friend’s shop whenever I want. There are two really good things about working there: 1) He has sattellite radio piped in. That means I can listen to 50’s music all day long. He was listening to it before I got there so there’s no battle on what station to set it on. He also likes gospel music from time to time which I also enjoy. A great environment, and a very gracious friend to...

Super Shop Geek Saftey Gear

Super Shop Geek Saftey Gear

My old shop glasses had about a million scratches (and half as many layers of some finish) on them and were a nuisance to work with. There were so many times I would forgo proper eye safety so that I could just see what I was doing. (don’t judge me Norm) When I was looking for a light for my bandsaw I saw these amazing 007 geek-squad safety ringers, and I knew that I could toss the old jalopy specs. I tell you what friends they are awesome! Wearing them in the shop I forgot that I had ...

Spirderman's Flashlight!

Spirderman's Flashlight!

Well I have to admit I have put off too long getting a light for my bandsaw. I was in Woodcraft today and they wanted almost $60.00 for a magnetic LED light for bandsaws. My wife and I were at the PXtra (store on base) today and I wondered over to the tools…and found this little guy! The great thing is that he can stick to any metal surface. I have used it on the jointer ( to see light between the fence and square..or lack there of), and of course the Bandsaw. It is great when I am free...

Inexpensive over the shoulder shop Apron

Inexpensive over the shoulder shop Apron

01-27-2012 10:58 PM by TechRedneck | 6 comments »

When I am in the shop, I want to have my essential small tools handy. Pencil, small square, DC Remote, Marker, Marking Gauge, tape measure, Center rule and whatever. I started with a cheap cotton apron that came over the neck and tied in the back. When I added tools it became a little heavy and dug into the back of my neck. I wanted an apron that came over the shoulders and was easy to put on and take off. This seems to fit my needs with a few exceptions. Likes: 1. Heavy cotton with...
