Menards Folding Steel Sawhorse MX047

Menards Folding Steel Sawhorse MX047

I came across these the other day and decided to pick up a couple and give them a try. Over the years I have collected many sets of the plastic folding style saw horses. The problem is eventually some have failed and have been replaced, now I have a hodge podge collection with multiple elevations (even the same mfgr). I never did like the plastic ones and I thought they were a pain to store. There are several things that I really like about the MasterForce sawhorses. 1) Capacity – ...

Bright LED Shop Light

I have been replacing my 4 foot shop lights with LED lights. I bought this one at Sam’s Club for $34.88 and it is really bright. 4500 Lumens5000K Bright White Light42 Watts and about half the power of my previous fluorescent light. It came with chains to hang it, on/off switch and a cord. Overall, this is a nice shop light at a good price.

My new branding iron

My new branding iron

I’d kicked this around for a while and after the wife gave me the green light I ordered a branding iron from Terry Desilets, Custom Branding irons. I’ve played with it a little and tonight gave it a work out. I really like the looks of my brand. After reading his instructions about the branding surface I’ll be doing a better job in the future. First off, flat smooth and clean, that means no varnish. One of the issues I ran into tonight. I branded a bunch of projects th...

LED Shop Light

LED Shop Light

I have often wanted to replace my 4ft- dual florescent light fixtures with LED lights but they have been too expensive everywhere- until now. The florescent ones come on real low when it is cold and the bulbs seem to burn out a lot and some of them hum. During Menards Labor Day sale these 4’ Smart Electrician LED lights were on sale for $14.88 after rebate. I have been using them for about a week and I can’t believe the difference over the old lights. It seems like I’m in...

Ok. So, for the past few months I’ve been looking for an upgrade from my Bose Ipod sounddock. Not that I’m crapping on Bose. I love it! But it’s not suitable for a shop environment. So, after tossing around tons of ideas and products, I decided to take the plunge and get the DEWALT DWST08810 ToughSystem Music Player with Charger. Needless to say that I’m very happy with it. Now, please keep in mind that even though this is a job site radio, this will NOT leave itR...

Awesome lights. Low price

Awesome lights. Low price

So, I’ve been working in my shop for the past three years with a single 100 watt bulb and grew sick off how shitty the lighting was. So, I splurged and swapped out the single bulb fixture for an electrical outlet and had gotten 6 of these LED light fixtures to plug into (3 per side). And I must say, I’m VERY please with this upgrade! These things are great! At 30 watts a piece and 3200 luminaries (whatever the Hell that means) they light up my shop perfectly; which is only a 25&#...

My Review of the Grizzly G0532 Dry Spray Booth

My Review of the Grizzly G0532 Dry Spray Booth

Note, I have edited this review to add more information. Hi Everyone, Here’s another stab at a tool review, I seem to remember doing one once before. Still fairly new to woodworking, I’ve been at it for about a year and a half now. I’m amassing some nice tools along the way, and lately I’ve started to delve into spray finishes. I recently bought an Earlex 5500 HVLP spray system and I knew I was going to need a spray booth for the fumes. I got incredibly lucky b...

Heat Treating Heaven!

Heat Treating Heaven!

04-09-2016 01:04 AM by Ripthorn | 6 comments »

I like to build tools, but the most frustrating part is usually heat treating the parts that need it. I have been using MAPP gas, but with one of the old style brass torch heads. I have a 1 1/2” wide, 1/4” thick, 3 1/2” long iron that needs heat treatment and I decided enough was enough and I went to HD and bought this torch. A couple things surprised me about it: - All metal construction, save the two knobs. The black part is not plastic, like I thought it might be.- ...

Dynaglo 50K-200K LP/Propane Heater

Dynaglo 50K-200K LP/Propane Heater

This is only an initial review because I’ve only had this heater for a week now and have used it 2x’s. I got it for $60 new in box off CL but reg price is 130$ at BORG. I used to have a 15K tank top LP Radiant heater which was nice when close by and a 50K-80K kerosene salamander that worked well but smelled and was LOUD!!! First off let me tell you for the same price as a decent NEW kero salamander you can get this bad lad that is at least 2-4x stronger and quite a bit quieter....
