Norton Multi-Oilstone IM313 - I think this is my last sharpening system - updated with video
230 days ago by ChicoWoodnut | 17 comments »
I have been looking at this system for a couple of years now. I finally decided to click the buy button and I’m glad I did. Like most of you, I have tried a lot of sharpening systems. Here are the ones I have tried and the reasons I decided to buy this one and lay the rest aside. Scary Sharp - A good system if you like buying sandpaper all the time. I used it for a long time. The cost of consumables quickly adds up. Work Sharp - A good system but ditto on the consumables. ...
Sweet Jig

Though i thought it was a little expensive when I bought it from woodcrafters I think this honing jig is awesome. I use the scary sharp system and it works great for it. the best part about this jig is that the guide you attach let’s you set a consistent square bevel every time. when you try it you’ll be surprised how far some of your chisels have gotten from spec. I found a few things about the jig confusing (the manual wasn’t very clear) so i’ll give you guys some...
Very Sharp, yes. Scary sharp, no, but a nice tool none the less.

I’m as susceptible to good advertising as the next guy and while Pro-Tool Mfg. makes a nice product, they are masters of marketing. So moving past the hype, here’s my take on the WS2000. I’ve hand sharpened my chisels and the few planes I own since I started woodworking and the main reason I hadn’t done more work with my hand tools is because I’ve always hated using my limited time maintaining the edges necessary to do precise work. So when I saw an ad clip fo...
New worksharp for old chisels
327 days ago by Craftsman on the lake | 17 comments »
In reviving my shop after many years I got a workshart 3000. I used to sharpen my chisels by hand on sandpaper and stones and got marginal results because you really have to work at it to get them the way you want. This worksharp really makes it easy. I mean really easy. Old dull chipped chisels took maybe 15 minutes each and I’ll be able to touch them up in a few seconds anytime I want to now.The unit is not cheap but not as expensive as some units. I got mine from Sears for $189 but y...
Review of the WorkSharp WS3000

Originally posted in my blog. I have been looking for a sharpener for a while and came close to coughing up $250 for the Jet clone of the Tormak when the woodworking show was in town last month. I had also seen the Work Sharp on the web. Dan Like had seen one in action and given it his endorsement. There is a video of it on thier web site if your interested in seeing it in action. Wood Magazine has a review of it as well as a video of it in action. On the worksharp web site there is a ...

Introduction:The WorkSharp WS3000 is a powered sharpening system that uses a horizontal spinning surface. It uses PSA sandpaper on tempered glass disks or slotted wheels as the abrasive surfaces. It has a unique angled port under the disk to set the bevel angle of tools such as chisels and plane blades. There is also a tool rest above the wheel for top surface sharpening. The adjustable port provides the ability to set precise bevel angles with perfect repeatability. The slotted wheel al...

Here’s my e-x-t-e-n-d-e-d video review of the WorkSharp WS2000. Here are two (much better) reviews on the WS3000 and the Veritas alternatives:http://lumberjocks.com/jocks/WayneC/blog/1113http://lumberjocks.com/jocks/mot/blog/1149 Thanks to all of you who are bearing with my videos as I learn while I go! I apologize for the length of the video – I just want to sharpen everything in my shop! Errata: I keep calling it “WorkShop” in the video – I mean “WorkSharp” – I ke...
Veritas Mk.II Power Sharpening System Quick Review - VIDEO

Hi Folks, As promised, a quick tour of the Veritas Mk.II Sharpening System. In the video I seem to use back bevel and micro bevel interchangeably. This is a mistake and is due to doing these videos at 1am when I should be ”sawing logs,” in bed. However, here it is… Cheers!
Veritas camber roller attachement makes putting a camber on a blade a breeze.

After years of using an ROS to sand and smooth all my projects I finally said enough and started collecting good user planes over the last couple of years. I had played some with a #5 jack plane but had left my #4 smoother unattended other than to derust it. I pulled it out today, took the blade out and got out my Veritas honing guide. I had purchased a camber roller attachment for it last year and hadn’t tried it out yet. I don’t know what took me so long. It made putting a cambe...
Shop Made Honing Machine
26 days ago by Andrew | 6 comments »
I was communicating in a project from dbhost about this honing machine so I thought I would share it here. I got this motor (1/2 hp 1750rpm) from Metal Mike, a nieghbor, same guy who traded a working drll press for a broken band saw. I took 2 peices of MDF and glued them together, roughed a circle, about 10” diameter, then mounted it on my lathe. I turned it into a perfect circle, lathes are good at that. I then purchased a work arbor from woodcraft, I think $14. Mounted the MDF ci...
