Reposting From My Regular Blog to Review the EX-21 Scroll Saw

After several months of waiting and anticipation, the moment finally arrived when I got a chance to really get to know and work on my new Excalibur scroll saw! Even though I had the saw delivered to the show in Saratoga Springs, there was little time for me to enjoy it and really run it through the paces. I was very busy at the show and I must say that I was only at the booth a couple of hours a day, during which time I was usually talking to people who stopped by. Both Keith and I were ...

Task force scroll saw review

Task force scroll saw review

This scroll saw is a very nice saw for $100 and is worth the money. The first thing you have to do is tape up the led light and remove the guard because you cant do interior cuts and it gets in the way. The saw also has a blower and a vaccum port help collect the dust it uses a tool to change the blade which is a pain in the ass but other than that it is a nice saw with a lot of features that would see on a more expensive saw. It doesnt have a foot switch but has a varible speed and the light...

Good saw, with modifications!

Good saw, with modifications!

Straight out of the box you will be dissapointed with this saw. Some of the major flaws are very pronounced vibration above the 1200 spm speed, the blower is not nearly strong enough, the knob to tighten the tilt on the tabletop is made of of soft rubber and will bust if overtightened, also if you plan on using the holddown foot it is almost impossible to get it tight enough to not twist if the piece of wood you’re cutting actually tries to pull up against it. However, I have found th...

Problematic Hitachi CW-40

Problematic Hitachi CW-40

Let me perfectly honest and up front here. I have owned the Hitachi CW-40 for about a year now. In some categories it performs very well. For instance, I like the soft start feature and the saw has very little vibration. But I consider there to be at least 2 MAJOR PROBLEMS with this saw. 1. The first problem is that it will not accept a spiral pinless blade. I have tried just about everything to install a spiral blade in this saw, but nothing I do works. The blade kinks, or breaks, or...

Got lucky and got a good one - Works great with modifications

Got lucky and got a good one - Works great with modifications

My wife has been interested in woodworking for awhile, but didn’t want to mess with the “big machines,” but was interested in scroll sawing. The DeWalt and Hawk units were too expensive for a “trial” period, so we looked for a moderately-priced unit. Reading the great reviews on LJ led us to take a chance on the P-C PCB370SS. Fortunately, we were lucky and got a good one. It does a great job with a little vibration and I agree the dust removal and attached...

Delta 40-690 20" scroll saw

Delta 40-690 20" scroll saw

I was lucky enough to get this saw while Woodcraft’s had it on sale for $349.00 last week. It was delivered today and I stoped everything I was doing and put it together. After reading reviews that dinged it for some problems I inspected it carefully. One of the issues was the attach screws for the light. I inspected the screws and then the threads in the saw housing. I found that the first few threads were non existant and the screws were just a bit to short and had no bite. I bought l...

I rarely use a scroll saw. If I have to do some scroll work I either do it by hand or use a bandsaw for outside work. Recently I had to do lots of inside scrolling. I’ve got an old craftsman scroll saw that I less than affectionally call ‘Thumper’ for obvious reasons. But, it cut and was good for work that wasn’t too intricate.I’m making a desk for my niece and the side panels between the styles are the medical symbol for an RN as she’s soon to be graduatin...

Dremel Motosaw

Dremel Motosaw

My dad gave me this. I’ve used it once or twice. For me it was very easy to break blades but it was because I kept wanting to push it like a jigsaw. I think if you practiced with it it would be a useful tool.

Nearly everything you could ask for in a scroll saw

Nearly everything you could ask for in a scroll saw

I have a shop full of tools; bandsaw, planer, joiner, table saw, drill press, and scroll saw. One of the things I’ve loved doing over the past eight years or so is making things on the scroll saw. After initially buying a Craftsman scroll saw and putting it to use, I saw a need for a better saw. I found a great deal on a used PS Wood 21-in scroll saw that I used for the past seven years. However, recently I was making some gifts that required me to do some very delicate fret-type work. ...
