Not What I Expected

Not What I Expected

I purchased this saw new at Lowe’s and was initially happy with the performance. The first saw had much lower vibration than my previous one. The table tilts 45 degrees left or right and has positive stops at the most popular angles. The blade clamps were not easy to work with and blade slippage (and consequently blade tension) was frustrating. I was doing some fairly intricate fretwork with hundreds of inside cuts requiring blade clamping and unclamping every 45 seconds to a minute for...

PORTER-CABLE 16" Variable Speed Scroll Saw with Stand

PORTER-CABLE 16" Variable Speed Scroll Saw with Stand

I have a 24” Delta / Rockwell scroll saw but found it too hard to change blades for scroll work & has too much vibration. When I decided to get a bit more serious about scroll work I checked outquite a few brands & “off”-brands. Yes I’d love to have a New Dewalt or Delta but you need at least $600 to get a new one. I wanted a saw for under $200. There’s quite a few out there… Most of them crappy. But the best one I found in that price range is ...

Blade Alignment (front to back)

Blade Alignment (front to back)

1130 days ago by jerrells | 3 comments »

After having this saw for about 9 months, and using the heck out of it, I have noticed that the blade is not at 90- degrees – front to back. That means is is leaning back about 1/32 of an inch on the top side vs. the bottom (at the table). This was most noticable yesterday when cutting a 3-D compound cut and the cutouts were different size one side vs. the other. Now the almost useless product manual is of not help with this problem and previous attempts with Porter Cable have also been...

Got lucky and got a good one - Works great with modifications

Got lucky and got a good one - Works great with modifications

My wife has been interested in woodworking for awhile, but didn’t want to mess with the “big machines,” but was interested in scroll sawing. The DeWalt and Hawk units were too expensive for a “trial” period, so we looked for a moderately-priced unit. Reading the great reviews on LJ led us to take a chance on the P-C PCB370SS. Fortunately, we were lucky and got a good one. It does a great job with a little vibration and I agree the dust removal and attached...

Delta Q3 40-650 Scroll Saw

Delta Q3 40-650 Scroll Saw

I recently acquired this Q3 scroll saw from Craig’s list. I was able to barter for it, amazon.com gift card trade. The seller acquired it from her father who recently passed away. The seller had no clue what it was so she was eager to trade for it. First off I notice it was missing the off/on switch and knob. It was rusty and dirty. I found a switch for $2.50 and replace the bent screws on the quick set blade clamp both upper and lower. I cleaned up the surface rust and wiped eve...

Nearly everything you could ask for in a scroll saw

Nearly everything you could ask for in a scroll saw

I have a shop full of tools; bandsaw, planer, joiner, table saw, drill press, and scroll saw. One of the things I’ve loved doing over the past eight years or so is making things on the scroll saw. After initially buying a Craftsman scroll saw and putting it to use, I saw a need for a better saw. I found a great deal on a used PS Wood 21-in scroll saw that I used for the past seven years. However, recently I was making some gifts that required me to do some very delicate fret-type work. ...

Video Review of my Excalibur Ex-21

Video Review of my Excalibur Ex-21

Hey Lumberjocks, After using a $10.00 scroll saw that I bought off of Craigslist for a couple years, I decided it was time to break out the bucks and upgraded to an Ex-21 saw. That was a year ago, now that I have the technology to make boring videos I figured I should do a review of it since that seems to be the thing to do when you make videos. So here is my less than spectacular video review of my EX-21. And just in case your wondering, just try and take my EX from me, I dare ya!!lol

My DW788 Scrollsaw Review and purchase experience.

I was told the saw would be received in a week and I got it in about 4 days which was really nice. I also bought the stand that goes with the saw for an extra $46 and it was money well spent. The stand was very easy to assemble. I unpacked the saw (I bought a Used but New one) and could tell the saw had been opened and then repacked. The saw was in perfect condition, no scratches or blemishes at all. I picked the saw up and placed it on the stand and put the tear drop table on which was a sna...

Delta 40-690 20" scroll saw

Delta 40-690 20" scroll saw

I was lucky enough to get this saw while Woodcraft’s had it on sale for $349.00 last week. It was delivered today and I stoped everything I was doing and put it together. After reading reviews that dinged it for some problems I inspected it carefully. One of the issues was the attach screws for the light. I inspected the screws and then the threads in the saw housing. I found that the first few threads were non existant and the screws were just a bit to short and had no bite. I bought l...
