Klingspor hook and loop sandpaper - Great value and great paper

Klingspor hook and loop sandpaper - Great value and great paper

06-05-2012 01:29 PM by lumberjoe | 9 comments »

Since I have been doing a lot of projects lately, I got tired of running out of sandpaper when I needed it. I went to my local woodcraft to buy some bulk packs. I saw the Klingspor brand at a pretty god price for a box of 25 (around 11.00 for 5” hook and loop) and decided to take a chance. I previously used the Diablo hook and loop paper with a moderate level of satisfaction. I run my sander attached to a vacuum to keep the dust down and keep the paper somewhat clean. The Freud paper...

I use this same machine

I use this same machine

This is a great machine. I do not use the flap part. Have read many comments about how difficult it is, and some even say dangerous. So, I use the small bladder on one side, with 80 grit and the large one with 150 grit. I mainly use it to clean up rounded over (with router) corners to build outdoor furniture. I use a handheld bicycle pump and it is probably less than 10 psi because I think I push too hard and it would be too aggressive at a higher psi. When I was first looking for one, ...

Should last longer than 35 days. Right?

Should last longer than 35 days. Right?

I loved the design of this sander! It is very light, handles are in perfect positions, BUT not impressed with the life of the one I bought. I used it only a few times and it started smoking. It seems to get hot quickly. I have not returned it yet, but I will be very soon. I know I didn’t apply to much pressure because I was just knocking a rough edge down on a 5” corner board. Anyone else have any luck with this sander? I would like to get another but kinda gun shy now̷...

Pleasantly surprised by the 93431 HF Random Orbit Sander

Pleasantly surprised by the 93431 HF Random Orbit Sander

05-03-2012 06:54 PM by Tennessee | 11 comments »

I have to admit, I am a sucker for a good random orbit sander. We all started off many years ago with the square ones that always left swirl marks, and then one day there it was, the round, 5” random orbit sander. My first was a Porter-Cable with the stick-um pad, which soon got a hook and loop system and served me well until the wheel would just start spinning out of control as soon as you lifted it off the wood. They had come down so much in price I bought another, this time variab...

Not perfect, but FAR better than the 3M rubber block!

Not perfect, but FAR better than the 3M rubber block!

A little disclaimer here. I hate sanding, anything that slows the process down, or fails in the process that I do not want to be doing in the first place earns instant hatred from me, which was what got me looking for a new sanding block in the first place. I started out with a 3M rubber sanding block which is basically the same design as this Norton, just different materials. And it’s the choice in materials that makes all the difference in the world. Simply put, the Norton is a nic...

Bosch Variable Speed Orbital

Bosch Variable Speed Orbital

04-19-2012 04:15 AM by ZLSBOARDWORKS | 6 comments »

To start off this is a great little orbital. I have used others in the past and have found this one to be the best, or the one that I like the most as of lately. I was at one point a really big supporter of the variable speed porter cable orbital, I was able to use them on a daily basis. At the shop we used to really beat the hell out of those sanders, but they never seemed to quite. I mean some of them did but most of the time they just kept on chugging. Only problem with the PC though is th...

Aggressive """NOT"""

Aggressive """NOT"""

I have tried the 6”orbital by ridgid 3 times.. I was lured by the lifetime warranty, i was reading on other sites that the warranty is not all that it’s cracked up to be.. anyway, I will never buy another ridgid sander again.. I’m tired of the frustration of having a tool you depend on, give up when you need it most. I am on the 4th sander and at this point i don’t care about the warranty.. The sander has a flaw., when you take apart the disc and the counterbalance you...

Freud Random Orbit Sanding Disks Go the Distance

Freud Random Orbit Sanding Disks Go the Distance

Home Depot switched from Norton 3X to Freud abrasive products. I have tried the 120 grit and 150 grit 5” hook and loop disks, and they work very well. The ceramic blend of abrasives keeps cutting upwards of an hour of continuous sanding. I change them out of habbit, but they look like new and are still making sawdust. I didn’t have any disks come loose from either my Bosch or Dewalt sanders. The disks do not load up with dust like some brands. Cost is cheap – a 50 coun...

Supermax 19-38

Supermax 19-38

03-31-2012 01:11 PM by Bill7255 | 13 comments »

I wanted to add a drum sander to sand some cabinet doors I am making. I did a lot of research and came across the Supermax sander. There is not a lot of information on this sander as it has been out about a year. So I took a chance on what was listed as features that seemed to address some of the concerns with drum sanders and made the purchase. The sander is well packaged for shipment. It comes with an open stand that is fine (you will need casters), but I ordered the closed stand. I a...

Rockler's remarkable red rubber sanding block

Rockler's remarkable red rubber sanding block

03-13-2012 06:37 AM by DHS | 6 comments »

I purchased a sanding block for the first time yesterday. I had taken my mother to lunch on Sunday afternoon and then to reward myself for this good deed I visited the local Rockler Woodworking store and browsed the discount racks. I bought some sanding disks, a quart of Titebond III, some space balls, and then just for the heck of it, I purchased a rubber sanding block for $3.99. What a wonderful device. I don’t know why I’ve never used one before. Perhaps it was my abrasive high-school...
