Does it's Job for a Great Price

Does it's Job for a Great Price

I had been in the market for a combination belt/disc sander for quite some time and read as much as I could on all the various brands. I landed on the Craftsman one primarily for the attractive price (and the encouragement of my father-in-law who has had one for who knows how many years), however, comparing its specs to other competing sanders, in nearly every category it scored as good if not better. For starters, this sander is heavy at around 85 lbs, and so much so that I have not had ...

Ridgid EB4424 Oscillating Edge Belt / Spindle Sander

Ridgid EB4424 Oscillating Edge Belt / Spindle Sander

These have been reviewed a bit by others, but I just want to add a resounding “This is a great tool” to the heap. Lumberjock YBNORMAL lives in the same town as I do, so when he told me his was great and gets lots of use I had to take the plunge. I found it still priced at $199 at the BORG. I snagged a Husky support table at the same time ($35) so that I could mount this sander to it and have it a floor model from day one. Very sturdy when joined and perfect height for me. ...

Nice Little Sander Keeps the Air Clean

Nice Little Sander Keeps the Air Clean

This is one of only a handful of random orbit sanders that offers a pleated filter. The dust collection works great without a vacuum. The vacuum attachment fits the Woodcraft vacuum hose if so desired. The velcro works fine, and it takes an 8 hole disk. I use it with 80, 120, 150, and occasionally 220 grit. It is a lower powered unit than my Dewalt ROS, but also vibrates less. The variable speed is nice for easing the edges of small workpieces. The handle is the most comfortable I have...

Review ToolSelect.com part #3 Jet Edge Sander

Review ToolSelect.com part #3 Jet Edge Sander

860 days ago by Kjuly | 9 comments »

Part 2 concluded with links to two videos produced by ToolSelect.com. The reviews, Jet Drill Press -JDP-12 and the Jet Mortiser-JBM-5 were published shortly before I wrote part 1 & 2. The third tool review video, Jet Oscillating Edge Sander-JET 708447 OES-80CS, was not published at that time. I found three issues with the operation of the edge sander. We, ToolSelect.com and I, felt it would be fair to share my findings with Jet and give them the opportunity to respond. Jet was ...

Craiglist Drum Sander find

Craiglist Drum Sander find

I have been on the lookout for a deal on a drum sander for quite some time. Of course a good deal to me has to be an amazing deal to the wife. Using Craiglist RSS feeds is about the best way to stay up on things and find a good deal, btw. Anyways, I found a listing for a Jet 16-32 drum sander listed for an amazing $300. I immediately called the number and asked what was wrong with it. When the seller said nothing and that it was only about 6 months old with about 1 hour of usage I asked ...

Makita 9403 4 x 24 inch, 11 amp belt sander

Makita 9403 4 x 24 inch, 11 amp belt sander

After reading many reviews and comparisons on heavy duty belt sanders, all roads seem to lead me to this work horse. I looked at my local box store and although they did not carry it, they did have it in their tool rental section. I asked the guy who works on all the rental tools and he said the only problem he has with them, is when people put them down while it is still moving, it eats the cord for lunch. It is a heavy unit which really helps get the job done and if you don’t keep i...

Why not to buy a Shopfox Drum Sander

Why not to buy a Shopfox Drum Sander

881 days ago by Det | 17 comments »

I purchased a W 1740 12 inch drum sander about three years ago. I have had nothing but trouble with this machine. It has plastic gears in the belt dtrive and I have had to replace that once already. Yesterday while out using the sander again, only used on small projects, the gear again stripped out. I contacted Shopfox technical support to order a new gear again and was told that part is no longer available. They have made a replaacement part (obviously because the one they had was cau...

Just burned out my 12 year old green Bosch 5” ROS, and found myself in dire need of another to finish off edging a floor. Head full of “will I buy the cheapest one?/will I buy a decent one?” on the way to the tool shop. Still undecided I had a look at all on display.I explained that I wanted something with a dual personality, something that would breeze through floor edging when required, yet show a bit of restraint for sanding cabinets. Having discounted the Bosch, Makita, ...

I purchased this belt sander from a big box store the other day for 170.00 plus 10% off for my military discount. To start I am loving this sander, Its my first one so I may be biased but it has really opened up what I can accomplish in my small shop. So heres my review based on things I thought were important Packing and Setup: Inside the box was the...

High Speed Air Sander with Jacobs Chuck

High Speed Air Sander with Jacobs Chuck

My last find from my recient trip to Harbor Freight was this Air Sander with Jacobs chuck. 18000 RPM 4 CFM @ 90 PSI. come with 3 backing plates 3” 4” and 5.5” and a 3/8 jacobs chuck. Tons of power, it was missing one of the wrenchs but Harbor Freight customer service sent one right out. One reviewer on HF’s site commented that the sholder on the nut that holds the backing plate and sand paper on is very shallow I have to agree and infact turned a new one on my metal la...
