Bosch Variable Speed Orbital

Bosch Variable Speed Orbital

394 days ago by ZLSBOARDWORKS | 6 comments »

To start off this is a great little orbital. I have used others in the past and have found this one to be the best, or the one that I like the most as of lately. I was at one point a really big supporter of the variable speed porter cable orbital, I was able to use them on a daily basis. At the shop we used to really beat the hell out of those sanders, but they never seemed to quite. I mean some of them did but most of the time they just kept on chugging. Only problem with the PC though is th...

Aggressive """NOT"""

Aggressive """NOT"""

402 days ago by dargo | 12 comments »

I have tried the 6”orbital by ridgid 3 times.. I was lured by the lifetime warranty, i was reading on other sites that the warranty is not all that it’s cracked up to be.. anyway, I will never buy another ridgid sander again.. I’m tired of the frustration of having a tool you depend on, give up when you need it most. I am on the 4th sander and at this point i don’t care about the warranty.. The sander has a flaw., when you take apart the disc and the counterbalance you...

Freud Random Orbit Sanding Disks Go the Distance

Freud Random Orbit Sanding Disks Go the Distance

407 days ago by pintodeluxe | 8 comments »

Home Depot switched from Norton 3X to Freud abrasive products. I have tried the 120 grit and 150 grit 5” hook and loop disks, and they work very well. The ceramic blend of abrasives keeps cutting upwards of an hour of continuous sanding. I change them out of habbit, but they look like new and are still making sawdust. I didn’t have any disks come loose from either my Bosch or Dewalt sanders. The disks do not load up with dust like some brands. Cost is cheap – a 50 coun...

Supermax 19-38

Supermax 19-38

413 days ago by Bill7255 | 13 comments »

I wanted to add a drum sander to sand some cabinet doors I am making. I did a lot of research and came across the Supermax sander. There is not a lot of information on this sander as it has been out about a year. So I took a chance on what was listed as features that seemed to address some of the concerns with drum sanders and made the purchase. The sander is well packaged for shipment. It comes with an open stand that is fine (you will need casters), but I ordered the closed stand. I a...

Rockler's remarkable red rubber sanding block

Rockler's remarkable red rubber sanding block

431 days ago by DHS | 6 comments »

I purchased a sanding block for the first time yesterday. I had taken my mother to lunch on Sunday afternoon and then to reward myself for this good deed I visited the local Rockler Woodworking store and browsed the discount racks. I bought some sanding disks, a quart of Titebond III, some space balls, and then just for the heck of it, I purchased a rubber sanding block for $3.99. What a wonderful device. I don’t know why I’ve never used one before. Perhaps it was my abrasive high-school...

Bigger is not always better

Bigger is not always better

432 days ago by Sawdust4Blood | 10 comments »

Sadly this is my one Ridgid tool that has turned out to be a disappointment. I confess that I hate sanding and the thought that a larger, more powerful ROS might get me done sanding sooner may have seduced me into choosing this sander about 18 months ago when my faithful 20 year old Porter Cable gave up the ghost. Unfortunately, when it comes to ROSs, bigger is not always better. This sander is heavy and it’s size makes it cumbersome in many applications as well as being difficult ...

Grizzly inflatable drum / flap sander

Grizzly inflatable drum / flap sander

434 days ago by redryder | 5 comments »

The only other review I could find on this sander was posted 1300 days ago. I found this machine on Craigslist about six months ago and have used it quite a bit since. It is a beast of power. Very straight forward and simple to operate. I have used and wasted my money on many smaller flap sanders on the drill press with less than great results. This machine will cut your sanding time WAY down. It will take square edges and round them over quickly and accurately. Projects such as cutt...

Festool RO 125 FEQ

Festool RO 125 FEQ

Whenever Festool is mentioned, there are always two totally different responses. One is–I absolutely love it and can’t wait until I can buy more of their products, and two–it is way overpriced and there is no way I’ll ever spend that much on a power tool! Maybe, just maybe, both answers are actually very valid, depending on your needs. I do ask though, have you actually used the tool? If your opinion is based only on price, you may not be quite fair. Being a professional woodworker for ...

Improved switch design, great dust collection

Improved switch design, great dust collection

449 days ago by nwbusa | 4 comments »

Update: I’ve owned this sander now for over a year, and it has gotten a lot of use. It’s been a great tool with no problems, so I’ll leave the five stars in place. The original review follows: I haven’t had this sander long yet, so my 5 star rating is based ondesign and recent performance. After I have used it for a longerperiod of time, I’ll come back and update my rating if warranted. I really want to comment on two aspects of the sander design. First,t...

Sandvik Sandplates replacement product

461 days ago by RBWoodworker | 5 comments »

Years ago..I bought a whole bunch of the Sandvik Sandplates in a clearance bin, and as most who know this product, also know’s they’ve been discontinued.. This company sells something very similar and works just as good.. I have also heard of the SandDevil and they’re great too.. I wrote a blog on these if anyone is interested in reading it.. I give them a 5 star because quite frankly..they work like a 5 star.. read the blog and I tell how I use them on my chairs.. http:/...
