A real nice 5" ROS sander

A real nice 5" ROS sander

I was in Lowes the other day looking for substitutes items for which I usually buy Porter-Cable (PC). Now that PC is owned by Black & Decker I expect they will go downhill soon. The items I usually get are Routers and Random Orbit Sanders. I started looking at the Bosch for the ROS and noticed the ROS20VSK. It had a price of $70 so I picked it upto check it out and it has a price reduced tag on it for $45. Well, I couldn’t pass up 31.5% off. BADIt doesn’t seem quite as p...

I would like a review of the Timesaver Speedsander

I would like a review of the Timesaver Speedsander

I am putting together a proposal for my school shop to get a wide belt sander for the upcoming school year. Had my eye on a grizzly, however prefer local reps and us made Timesaver. Looking at the Speedsander series for about $9k, the grizzly about $10k, or the timesaver 1300 series – $14K+4K setup. I obviously want the Timesaver 1300, but at half the cost I can get the speedsander if all goes well with approvals. I would like any reviews I can get on any of the 3 listed. Thank...

Big bang for little buck

Big bang for little buck

Just to start, my oldest daughter Karen was cleaning polish off of her nails at the dining room table when she accidentally tipped over the bottle of nail polish remover. It proceeded to run across the table top and eat through the finish… I decided to strip down the top of the table and refinish it, but I knew that my random orbital sander was on it’s last leg so in a way… this gave me good justification for a new shop tool! Now for the review… I was originally...

Hello Fellow Lumberjocks Bought this sander about a year ago. It had low price. Worked good the first time and has not let me down since. Not a tool I use everyday, but find myself using it enough that I always keep it handy,... within reach. Coarse grit sandpaper removes stock quickly and the tool is easy to guide and control. Gave it 4 stars because we know it is a made-in-China-throw-away. For $35 bucks it’s a good deal. If it died tomorrow, would probably buy another, rathe...

Dustless sanding

This machine works exactly as advertised. Here is a link to their videosClick “Build your own” then “Drum sander demo” Pros: They claim that you can sand painted surfaces without clogging up the paper. It’s true.My third picture is a stir stick that I use to stir my poly. There are at least a dozen coats on it. There was even a large drip. The stick took 3 passes with 100 grit paper. The paper showed no evidence of gumming up or even use.I have sanded several p...

Plenty of power in a small package

Plenty of power in a small package

I purchased this sander after reading numerous other post and reviews. Several post I’ve seen talked about the tracking adjustment screw and the spring being weak with the need for constant readjustment. I have not found that to be true with mine at all. The unit is kind of wide for my hand but I’ve found like others that the place where the cord enters the unit is a good location for holding it and works fine for controlling the unit. I don’t have a large shop but I’v...

Fantastic little workhorse!

Fantastic little workhorse!

This has turned into my go-to sander for most of my initial or coarse sanding jobs. It uses inexpensive sandpaper that you can cut yourself. It has great power so you can complete a sometimes tedious job quicker and more efficiently! The built in dust collection works fantastic, too! It is very rare to find a sander that leaves so LITLE sawdust behind when it is hooked up to a 2 1/2” shop vacuum! It includes a punch plate so you can pierce your sandpaper if you wish to cut it yours...

3M™ SandBlaster™ Flexible Abrasives

3M™ SandBlaster™ Flexible Abrasives

I just discovered these and used them on my Valentine’s Box 2008 project. Because of the small size of the box and the rounded bottom made by the bowl/tray router bit, I needed something flexible to follow the curves. I also need something that I could agressively work some problem areas left by the router. My regular sandpaper didn’t seem agressive enough and foam backed sanding pads are too stiff on the sanding surface to smoothly follow the tight curves. These pads are mu...

The best sanders you will ever use.

The best sanders you will ever use.

I first saw these at a woodworking in California about 8-9 years ago and bought a set that included threegrits. I was first attracted by the way they sanded endgrain. Using the coarse grit you can sand a 1/4” radius on the end of a 2×4 in about 30 seconds. They are incredible. They work best on the edges ofwood but can also be used on flat surfaces. They have a sanding surface made of tungsten carbide and will almost last you a lifetime. After 8-9 years thecenter of my fine grit...
