Flatmaster 24" Drum Sander

Flatmaster 24" Drum Sander

220 days ago by retfr8flyr | 8 comments »

I know there are a couple of reviews on the Flatmaster Sander but I thought I would give my impressions of my new 24 inch Flatmaster. I have had this sander for about 4 months now and have run many different projects and wood types on it and it does a great job. Unlike most drum sanders, it is a hand feed sander so some will be turned off immediately but they would be missing a great sander. I purchased the ready made metal cabinet version. There are other various forms of the sander in ki...

Sandpaper Holder - for hand sanding

Sandpaper Holder - for hand sanding

1240 days ago by Don Johnson | 3 comments »

Although I now cannot find it, I’m sure I recently saw a Project for making sandpaper holders to ease the task of hand sanding, so the subject was on my mind when I received my latest ‘Current Special Bargains’ e-mail from Lidl. (This is a cut-price supermarket company, similar to Aldi – both of which sell in the UK although they are based in Germany. Besides food, etc., they usually offer a variety of DIY products, but none could be called ‘top-of-the-range&...

Delta 31-260x Drum Sander Review

Delta Drum Sander 31-260x Video Review on youtube Part 1 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=koEMTEoB2rA Part 2 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HLfVV_1LDes&feature=related Disclaimer I would rather of not chosen something like the Delta drum sander, but finding a used commercial unit that I liked had been a battle over the past year. To be honest, I really did not want a sander with only a 1-1/2 HP motor although width was not an issue here. I wanted something like a 5 HP 26” ...

Rockler Abrasive Cleaning Stick (Rockler Item# 46987)

Rockler Abrasive Cleaning Stick (Rockler Item# 46987)

I am certain most of you either have used these or know about them, but… for those of you who do not: I began using a combination belt / disk sander in my home shop a couple of months ago, so I ordered one of these cleaning sticks soon after since my belt was loading up a bit. When I used it on both the 4” belt and the 8” disk, they were almost instantly de-loaded and restore to like new condition. People, quite frankly I was actually a bit amazed at how well this piece...

Years ago..I bought a whole bunch of the Sandvik Sandplates in a clearance bin, and as most who know this product, also know’s they’ve been discontinued.. This company sells something very similar and works just as good.. I have also heard of the SandDevil and they’re great too.. I wrote a blog on these if anyone is interested in reading it.. I give them a 5 star because quite frankly..they work like a 5 star.. read the blog and I tell how I use them on my chairs.. http:/...

SuperMax 19-38 exceeds expectations - a quick review

SuperMax 19-38 exceeds expectations - a quick review

339 days ago by EMC | 6 comments »

After much research and debate I decided to go with this sander as the best solution to my need to keep the physical size reasonable (due to limited shop space) and the budget fairly reasonable (I am comfortable paying more for better quality, but as a hobbyist can’t really justify spending several thousand dollars on a single tool). A $1399, this is not an inexpensive tool, but it is reasonable. And from everything I read it has some real advantages over Preformax/Jet for only a sm...

Klingspor hook and loop sandpaper - Great value and great paper

Klingspor hook and loop sandpaper - Great value and great paper

807 days ago by lumberjoe | 9 comments »

Since I have been doing a lot of projects lately, I got tired of running out of sandpaper when I needed it. I went to my local woodcraft to buy some bulk packs. I saw the Klingspor brand at a pretty god price for a box of 25 (around 11.00 for 5” hook and loop) and decided to take a chance. I previously used the Diablo hook and loop paper with a moderate level of satisfaction. I run my sander attached to a vacuum to keep the dust down and keep the paper somewhat clean. The Freud paper...

DeWalt 5 inch Random Orbital Sander

DeWalt 5 inch Random Orbital Sander

I’ve had this tool for several years now. I’ve tried to take good care of it and it has taken good care of me. The particular model number is DW26451. Single speed random orbital sander. It takes 5 inch hook and loop (velcro) discs. You can see it here: http://www.dewalt.com/tools/woodworking-sanders-random-orbital-sanders-d26451.aspx. I cribbed the image from their website as well. I’ve been very pleased with it. The thing just works. It’s been completely...

 Mirka Sanding Disks and Belts

Mirka Sanding Disks and Belts

200 days ago by b2rtch | 15 comments »

Last year when I remolded my kitchen, I bought on Amazon Mirka sanding disks in different grits. I was very satisfied with them. I used to buy all my abrasives from KLINGSPOR but the last time I checked their prices for sanding belts I had a sticker shock. The last sanding belts that I bought for my Ridgid sander, was also on Amazon. They were 100 grit Makita sanding belts. I noticed that they loaded very fast and I am really not happy with them. After a good experience with their sand...

Review of the Porter-Cable Orbital Sander Model 333

Review of the Porter-Cable Orbital Sander Model 333

2405 days ago by Mark A. DeCou | 18 comments »

To be blunt, this will be my last Porter Cable Model 333. It is my third. The only one I like was bought in 1997, and I still use it. The one I bought in 2005 is dead. The one I bought in 2007 stinks. Now, don’t get me wrong. I “used” to love anything about a Porter Cable tool. My first warning sign was my laminate trim router I bought in 1997, and every P-C rep I talked to denied ever hearing about the problem with the collet getting crimped onto the bit sh...
