(photo from: www.ridgid.com) When we first were looking for tools for our shop Rick wanted a drum sander. We asked at a store and were shown this Ridgid model which is multi-purposed. Rick was sold and we’ve never regretted the purchase. Features: belt sander (4”) spindle sander (5 sizes) tilting table Conversion Switching between the belt sander and spindle sander is really easy. It is also simple to change the sleeves for the spindle sander. Everything...
The best sanders you will ever use.

I first saw these at a woodworking in California about 8-9 years ago and bought a set that included threegrits. I was first attracted by the way they sanded endgrain. Using the coarse grit you can sand a 1/4” radius on the end of a 2×4 in about 30 seconds. They are incredible. They work best on the edges ofwood but can also be used on flat surfaces. They have a sanding surface made of tungsten carbide and will almost last you a lifetime. After 8-9 years thecenter of my fine grit...
works good enough for what I use it for ! Harbor Freight 1/2" Bandfile Belt Sander

Hello Fellow Lumberjocks Bought this sander about a year ago. It had low price. Worked good the first time and has not let me down since. Not a tool I use everyday, but find myself using it enough that I always keep it handy,... within reach. Coarse grit sandpaper removes stock quickly and the tool is easy to guide and control. Gave it 4 stars because we know it is a made-in-China-throw-away. For $35 bucks it’s a good deal. If it died tomorrow, would probably buy another, rathe...

If you were only going to own one sander, this is it!

Over the last couple of months both my palm sander and ROS have bit the dust; of course they were about 8 or nine years old. I received this as a fathers day gift and boy am I glad I did. I decided to try out the claims I’ve heard regarding the efficient dust collection and life of the paper, not to mention the speed that it smooths a rough surface. A couple of months back I picked up a Big Leaf Maple slab and had done nothing with it; You can see the rough saw marks in the first pi...
4" x 30" V-Drum Sander kit....Build your own Drum Sander!
199 days ago by JonH | 12 comments »
I saw this link via the wood whisperer website. This company, Stockroom Supply (www.stockroomsupply.com) sells the parts to built a face sanding drum sander. Granted its not the full blown thickness sander, but this method suits my needs better. I teach high school woodshop and I would not feel comfortable letting kids run a thickness sander, but this is a machine that is nearly idiot-proof once it is assembled. It doesn’t squeeze the wood between two drums, it instead mounts just u...
Review of the Porter-Cable Orbital Sander Model 333
223 days ago by Mark DeCou | 12 comments »
To be blunt, this will be my last Porter Cable Model 333. It is my third. The only one I like was bought in 1997, and I still use it. The one I bought in 2005 is dead. The one I bought in 2007 stinks. Now, don’t get me wrong. I “used” to love anything about a Porter Cable tool. My first warning sign was my laminate trim router I bought in 1997, and every P-C rep I talked to denied ever hearing about the problem with the collet getting crimped onto the bit sh...
A real nice 5" ROS sander
124 days ago by GaryK | 11 comments »
I was in Lowes the other day looking for substitutes items for which I usually buy Porter-Cable (PC). Now that PC is owned by Black & Decker I expect they will go downhill soon. The items I usually get are Routers and Random Orbit Sanders. I started looking at the Bosch for the ROS and noticed the ROS20VSK. It had a price of $70 so I picked it upto check it out and it has a price reduced tag on it for $45. Well, I couldn’t pass up 31.5% off. BADIt doesn’t seem quite as p...
Don't look at the price tag, just buy this ROS!

Okay, after reading the earlier review of another Festool ROS, I thought I would chime in. After many years of reliable service from my old BD ROS, it finally died a happy death last week. I stumbled across this model whiile in the local Rockler and fell in love. I tried every item that came with this sander in the store and couldn’t believe the ease of use and how well it performed. At home I tried it on a piece of Mahagony and it came out feeling like glass. There is almost no vi...
