Rockler Power Air Respirator

Rockler Power Air Respirator

2372 days ago by Dick, & Barb Cain | 36 comments »

I wanted a respirator that I could wear all by itself. I didn’t want to contend with any head gear. I have used regular dust masks over the years, but after wearing them for awhile, it takes a lot more effort to breath.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~After seeing this one in Rockler I ordered one. It’s surprising how that little built in fan helps in your breathing, & it keeps your face cool. The fan is very quiet, & it runs on 4 AA batte...

Jawhorse (Sawhorse) from Rockwell, the Handy Helper

Jawhorse (Sawhorse) from Rockwell, the Handy Helper

I do 99% of my projects alone. Believe me this one is a Lifesaver! I’m always a bit skeptical of infomercials and typically believe gimmicky tools are much more trouble than they are worth. But, thinking about all the times I’ve risked cutting boards that were unstable and chasing odd shaped items across my bench with my surface grinder, I kept thinking this thing might just be worth a try so I finally decided to order one. In the closed position the unit stores easily and take...

Triton Respirator Exceeds Expectations

Triton Respirator Exceeds Expectations

Photohttp://www.triton.com.au/product.php?id=29 Cost I purchased this at a wood show last year and I cannot remember how much I paid for it. I know that I did not cringe at the price, knowing the benefits it would bring and that I was very pleased with it once I tried it out. I never regretted the investment. Why did I get it? Because the LumberJocks told me how dangerous woodworking can be, due to breathing in the dust. Because when we got some rough-hewn pine I found that my e...

Magswitch Featherboard - A dream to use

Magswitch Featherboard - A dream to use

2409 days ago by Grumpy | 13 comments »

I had been eyeing off the Magswitch featherboard in magazines for some time and thought what a great invention it was. I don’t really understand how you can turn a magnet on and off , other than an electro magnet, simply by turning a knob but you can with the Magswitch. If anybody knows how it is done I would like to hear about it.I purchased the 30mm Magswitch Pro2 this week. It consists of two powerful earth magnets associated with a featherboard in a type of durable plastic molding. An opt...

The best Shark Guard yet.

The best Shark Guard yet.

First things first, some full disclosure. I am a “Frequent Flyer” when it comes to Shark Guards, I am on my 3rd Shark Guard, my first was an early model with a 2” port, the second, a 10.4 (4” port model) and now the SGK-1 with 4” port. Lee Styron, the owner of The Lee Way Workshop, and maker of the Shark Guard is also a long term contributing member of one of the forums I moderate on, and Lee gave me a good discount on this buy due to the above factors. I am howe...

Ryobi Tek4 headphones....GREAT buy!

So this is a must buy! I had just purchased these at The Home Depot at $60 and its worth every penny! I thought they were just regular headphones with a built in radio but then I tried it on and turns out it doesnt have a radio but it shuts out loud noises and magnifies the small sounds! I tested it out and I could still hear my radio as I was running wood through my planer! AMAZING! And not only that but it comes with a 4V battery and charger! You can also connect your MP3 player to it to li...

3M Respirator

3M Respirator

At the start of the first coat of lacquer I put on in preparing for finishing a desk project, I knew I would be buying a respirator immediately. The smell is aweful and while I’m not certain the safety risks of breathing it, I have read some pretty bad stories online about the fumes. I went to HomeDepot and decided to buy the best mask they had…so this was it. I did 0 research on masks, including for best model/price. This mask certainly does the job I needed it to do. Wh...

Jig for cutting/routing small parts

Jig for cutting/routing small parts

1688 days ago by David Craig | 11 comments »

Many of the items I work with in my shop require the shaping and cutting of small parts. These might be small boards for boxes or parts for toys. I have always found it a little nerve racking when I needed to cut a rabbet or shape small pieces, as I do not like my fingers so close to a blade. I have used clamps to perform the job but never felt like I had much control when working the pieces. Last year, I found this item on the PriceCutters website (now merged with Eagle America) and found th...

Another winner for Harbor Freight

Another winner for Harbor Freight

These anti-fatigue floor mats are very inexpensive, especially when on sale 50% off. They are very easy to install , they fit very well, easy to clean and they look good. Of course I bought them for my comfort but more important I also bought them to save my tools. A Stanley plane or a chisel dropped on the concrete are dead meat, with the mats they have a fair chance to survive.Highly recommended.

Hearing protection with tunes

Hearing protection with tunes

Well, the earmuffs I used for hearing protection finally broke and it was time to replace them. I decided to go with the worktunes earmuffs because I wasn’t able to hear my radio once I turned on my equipment. Well, they work great! The earmuffs really drown out the noise from the tablesaw and jointer and you really don’t need to have the radio on high to hear the music through the earmuffs. This particular model I bought allows you to plug in your MP3 player. The only issue ...
