Above Table Adjustments Make This Router a Cut Above

Above Table Adjustments Make This Router a Cut Above

I have been using the Freud fixed base FT1700VCE for the past several years. It is my dedicated table router where it excells at easy bit changes and height adjustments all from above the table. No more bending over, kneeling, and craning to change bits under the table. It also offers a wide base opening to accomodate all large panel raising bits. Those features make it an ideal table router. At 13 amps or 2-1/4 hp, it has power to spare. Comparing it to my other routers, it cuts more...

I purchased this router because I needed something lighter than my 691 plunge base in order to keep being able to do some woodworking. I bought the router andmost of the accessories for it, the fence(the inexpensive one), the round base to use with bushings, the vacuum adaptors for both bases. I used it for the first time to let in some banding and do some round over work on my current project. I am impressed with the the tool. It is easy to handle with either base. The plunge base is easy to...

Easy to use - seems like a pretty good deal

Easy to use - seems like a pretty good deal

Bottom line up front – pretty nice little tool for moderate use with a few limitations for a good price. Some caveats: I am fairly new to woodworking and don’t have deep experience with a lot of tools. I gave this product 4 stars based on the fact that I think it works well, but I feel like five stars should be reserved for “the best of the best.” (Like grade inflation and such). So, four is a pretty good rating and means I would recommend it to a friend, even a ...

Porter-Cable Porter Cable 1.25 HP Compact Router Fixed/Plunge Combo Kit

Porter-Cable Porter Cable 1.25 HP Compact Router Fixed/Plunge Combo Kit

This is a really nice fixed and plunge base compact router. I know I will use this much in the future for smaller routing jobs. Lotsa power, ez to use, gr8 quality. I got it at a really super price a while back, and I finally got round to using it. I cut the slots in my “football helmet” steadyrest jig that I made for turning long stock, like cane/s, spindles, etc. This worked very nicely. I look forward to using it more for many things. Not much of a review, but, I would say if ...

Bosch 1617EVSPK: a fine museum piece

Bosch 1617EVSPK: a fine museum piece

I purchased this router set about 2 months ago and it has performed as I expect any tool with Bosch’s name on it to perform: perfectly. What I didn’t expect, is just how beautifully finished this router is. This tool belongs in art museums to represent the epitome of modern industrial design. Everything about this router, including the case it comes in, suggests that the people who designed and built it cared about it, and that makes you care about it and the work you do with it. ...

Great router, great value

Great router, great value

As you can probably tell by my reviews, I am not a tool snob. I am an IT engineer with a strong background in mechanical engineering, and am very vigilant about finding the best tool that suits my needs for the best price. Also of note, I have a lot of what most would consider cheap tools. I am not bragging at all, but our household income would likely invoke the “99%” crowd to picket at my doorstep. I feel it is important to mention this because a lot of reviews of “cheap&#...

Got router a week ago, these are my first impressions of it.

Received my porter cable 893 pk from amazon about a week ago, I also received a few router bits along with it. Setting up the router was a cinch, and the fine tuning and measurement adjustments are real easy to use. I don’t know If I like how the motor locks into the base, I had figured when purchasing it that the motor had attached the same way as the older porter cable model like a cork screw. I also don’t know if I like how there is now a spindle lock for tightening and loosen...

Bosch 1617EVSPK router kit

Bosch 1617EVSPK router kit

I bought this kit about 6 months ago and I love it. This router does everything that I expect it to do. The motor is strong enough for the tasks I ask of it. I have yet to try a panel raising bit in it but I don’t see it having trouble spinning such a large bit. Both the fixed and plunge base are very well built and the plunge action on the plunge base is smooth. Adjusting bit depth is easy and these adjustments are held tight with a good locking mechanism. In my shop the fixed ba...

Two Palm Routers Will Enter One Will Leave!

Two Palm Routers Will Enter One Will Leave!

So awhile back I knew the time had come to get into the palm router game. I know some woodworkers are loyal to one brand and their shop is a “Jet Shop” or a “Powermatic” shop. My tool collection seems to be pretty varied although I have exiled ALL that is Harbor Freight! So when I started my research on palm routers there seemed to be two major contenders for the title. The Bosch Colt found for about $90 as a stand alone or $180 as a complete package with lots of ac...

Great little router and a great value with one nit

Great little router and a great value with one nit

I looked around and didn’t see a review for this router so I figured I would post one since I have had it for about a year. When I got it, it was on sale for $89 so it was even a better deal. I bought this because I was looking for a nice trim router that I could use instead of my beloved but HUGELY HEAVY Hitachi M12V for small projects. It came in really handy for routing door hinge mortises recently as I just finished installing 8 interior door slabs into their existing frames. I hav...
