After starting a forum topic recently to solicit opinions about what type of variable-speed router I should buy to leave mounted in my table for the most part, I eventually decided to go with the Trtion MOF001KC 2 1/4 HP plunge router. I thought hard about going with a more powerful motor, but I decided that my needs at the present time just didn’t justify it. I have been using the porter cable 690 for over 20 yrs. About 4 yrs ago I was at a Home depot, and they had them for $99.00. I have not been giving much praise to HF tools that have a motor or battery in the past. There are the occasional decent values though (The Dust Collecter is nice for a small setting, for example). This router has a ton of negatives. The adjustments are sloppy and the collet seems less secure than a Dewalt and Bosch router that I use as well. I had been searching for a new lighter router for easy handling and finer work. For a few years I made do with a ryobi plunge router. In fact it’s still going strong, but the time came for an upgrade. We have always liked the Porter Cable Routers, but they still need to go through our power tool review steps. The first thing we noticed was the case. When we opened the case, the router was a tight fit. We usually like a little room for bits or other items that belong with the tool. this router is amazing! it is my first router and i am thoroughly pleased. i purchased this router combo kit for 200 dollars at Lowe’s. most of the other combo kits that i saw anywhere else for around 200 dollars were only 1 1/4 hp but this has a great 2 1/4 hp and it cuts through any woods that at thrown at it with ease. it proved to be an especially helpful tool when recently i used a straight edge guide with this router to joint an 8 ft piece of mahogany so i could reference of of th...
