The new Mortise Pal: an exceptional upgrade to an exceptional tool

12-23-2010 05:56 AM by newTim | 14 comments »

Mortise Pal has re-designed their jig and the features are more than incremental. I’m an old fan of the MP jig having bought the first two models. I was real honored to be chosen by them to test their newest model. I started a blog about the test and now that I've been able to play around with the jig I will update it. There have been many excellent reviews of the first models posted here on LJs. For those not familiar with this tool, it is a router jig that facilitates perfectly...

Almost gave it one star

Almost gave it one star

I ordered this set back in August when Rockler had a sale goin on. I didn’t get to use it until late September. The first three bowls went good, but on bowl number four the bearing seized up and left a deep burn mark in my bowl. I was furious to say the least. It was Sunday night so I had time to cool off before calling Rockler to complain. The nice lady at Rockler said she would contact CMT and have then send me a new one. When I told her that I needed it to finish bowls for a cr...

Shop Fox D3118 Router Inlay Kit

”Cut perfect inlays with this Inlay Kit and your shop-made template. Simply slide on the bushing to rout the cutout and then remove the bushing to cut the perfectly matched inlay. Includes a 1/8” solid carbide spiral cutter and alignment pin. Fits Porter Cable® routers and other routers with template guide adapters.”Everything was there and fit my new Trend T4 just fine although there were two things that bothered me. #1 – the alignment pin is 8mm! (not 1/4”),...

Router bits Tounge and Groove and Panel bits

Router bits Tounge and Groove and Panel bits

I had purchased these sets a cpl of months ago at the Wood Working Show. I had watched the demo the year before and bought the videos as well. This year I took the plunge. I waited until I got a chance to use them before I wrote this review. The box they come in is a nice touch and it keeps them safe when not in use. However, we all know that doesn’t make the tool. The thing that I liked while watching the demos was that all there bits in a set are matched. Using their O-ring proces...

GREAT router lift !

GREAT router lift !

11-18-2010 07:29 PM by NBeener | 6 comments »

This really IS a review, so … I’m pointing to it. After spending a fair bit of time, making setup blocks out of UHMW, FOR my Amana glue joint router bit, I can honestly say that I LOVE this lift. The thread pitch and machining make precise dialing in operations—at thousandths of an inch—incredibly easy. Coupled with a height gauge, gauge blocks, or a good rule (I have a Pinnacle 12” that does the job, rather nicely), getting exact bit height is—relat...

Nice product, with a few gripes

Nice product, with a few gripes

Ordered this from Amazon.com about three months ago. The lift is impressive upon first inspection. The heft and quality of the fit and finish gives you the impression that it’s well built. This was replacing a regular JessEm router plate, so it was brain-dead easy to install – just remove the old plate, install the lift and then level it. This is where I ran into issues with the first lift. There are threaded through holes all the way around the plate, and you thread the supp...

1/2 lock miter router bit

1/2 lock miter router bit

10-19-2010 09:21 PM by Edward83 | 13 comments »

I saw this while looking through the router bits at Lowes. I never heard of of a lock miter router bit and feeling adventurous I decided to drop the thirty dollars for it in hopes of upping my abilities to build a better quality box. I read the instructions and set it up in my router table. The instructions suggest having a few pieces to practice on, and believe me they weren’t kidding. It says that you can use it on boards up to 3/4 in. but I would do it a little shy. The nature o...

Making Woodpeckers Locking Rings Readable

Making Woodpeckers Locking Rings Readable

09-03-2010 03:54 AM by PoppyJo | 7 comments »

Hi to all my fellow Woodpeckers, I just received my set of 8 Locking Rings for the PRL V2. I’m very impressed with the lift, but a little disappointed with the Locking Rings. They don’t look like some of the pictures and are very hard to read (have to catch the light just right). So an easy solution is to use “White Out” over all the recessed lettering, let dry and clean up using mineral spirits, now thats makes my job a little easier. The White Out is pretty tough ...

Milescraft Sign Crafter

Milescraft Sign Crafter

08-30-2010 09:40 AM by kosta | 11 comments »

Yo whats up everybody here is a review of the the Milescraft sign crafter. I have had the sign crafter for about 7 weeks and it works great. I did a video on the milescraft sign crafter in Episode 76 MIlescraft Sign Crafter. Its basically a jig that you use to cut signs with your router. You can cut signs up to 36 in long. Its important that the surface your router bit is referencing off of doesnt move or your not going to get an accurate cut. Once you clamp everything down the sign crafter ...

Great plate and easy to install

Great plate and easy to install

08-05-2010 04:20 PM by Vrtigo1 | 4 comments »

Let me start by saying that I bought this plate for my first router table, so I don’t have any frame of reference for comparing it to other products. With that being said, I was impressed with the quality of the plate and the cutout template. The price was right, at about $50 from Amazon. I was a little worried about getting a phenolic plate and the possibility of it warping when I hang my Hitachi M12V from it, but the plate feels very strong and stable. Only time will tell, but I...
