A great accessory for your router

A great accessory for your router

Using either one of two wrenches for replace a router bit can be a real pain. Especially if it’s in a router table. This nifty little thing will allow you to replace your router with an allen wrench. This “Eliminator RC Quick Change Chuck” is a combination bit extension and one-tool chuck.Unlike other extensions, it replaces the nut and collet on your router thus minimizing run-out which can occur with some extensions. I hesitated getting one of these things for a l...

JessEm Router Lift II

JessEm Router Lift II

I had been shopping around for a router lift for some time now and would drop when seeing the prices. Then I came across this: http://www.jessem.com/Router_Lift_II.html . I’ve had it for a couple months now and have been able to give a good once over. It is my first and only router lift I have ever used so I cannot compare it to another (hence the 4 stars). But I can say it is fantastic. It has changed my whole table router world for the better.Being in the metal fab business for the le...

Skil 91024 24-Piece Carbide Router Bit Set

Skil 91024 24-Piece Carbide Router Bit Set

So I just got these off of Amazon. I know that they are not the highest quality set, but they were better than what I had (nothing). I have used Skil bits before and while they certainly not the best, they have always gotten the job done for me. Again for the price (less than $45) it was hard to say no. Mostly I wanted to make this post because when trying to research this set I could not find anything anywhere regarding what is included in this set and I figured now that I have it in my h...

Basic Router Bit Set

Basic Router Bit Set

My search for an all around, shop set of router bits on a budget landed me me at Woodline USA. They had the most versatile set for doing what I do, mainly small boxes and minor furniture pieces. I paid a total of $79.00 for the set, with shipping, although I think they are a little higher now. I received it in 3 days. It arrived in excellent shape. A nice boxed set with the bits nested in their own slot to keep them from bunging each other up. Each bit has a wax/rubber coating to further p...

Sommerfield Cabinetmaking Set

Sommerfield Cabinetmaking Set

01-16-2010 05:26 AM by closetguy | 5 comments »

There are 100 different ways to build cabinets. Everyone has their own method that works well for them, and there is really no wrong way as long as they are square and sturdy. The goal is to be able to build them as quickly as possible, without compromising quality. I’m in the middle of a large cabinet job and decided to take a break this afternoon to document this little bit set that I have found invaluable in making my cabinets. Sommerfield Tools has a lot of high quality router bits ...

For Christmas this year, I purchased a DeWALT TrackSaw (Review pending) and decided to add on the Router Adapter. I purchased it from Woodcraft, as they had all the items I wanted and also a 10% off sale in December. I paid $53.99, saving $6 with the sale. Shipping:The box was direct shipped from DeWALT and arrived in great shape via UPS. CompatibilityThis attachment not only fits most DeWALT models, but also has adapters to fit the Porter-Cable 690 & 890. UseI have only used t...

I have been looking for a dovetail jig for the longest time and was looking at the leigh and the omni jig but I found out that you are limited. So I woent looking for one and found this one at homedepot for $40. Now I was a bit skeptical at first but when I got it home and used it for the first time after reading the manual and watching the dvd that is included, it is the easiest jig to use in my personal opinion. The only downside which I dont even consider a downside, so the only thing I wo...

This is a note to DynaBlue from the inventor: I read your review of the General Tools Mortise and Tenon Jig and wish to thank you for your expert review and analysis. If possible, I would like to be able to call DB and speak to him privately on some of the details, if you would please give me a way to call him.I am particularly interested because I am the inventor and patent holder of this tool, so I want you to know that your criticism is completely fair and accurate and, as the designer, bu...

Harbor Freight Router Inlay Kit

Harbor Freight Router Inlay Kit

10-12-2011 08:11 PM by ChuckC | 9 comments »

I recently bought the Harbor Freight Inlay Kit. HF obviously doesn’t make it but there’s no other name on the package. I was looking at them from other stores and for $35 for the kit and even more for the templates I always passed it up. This one was $10 and I had a coupon that brought it down to $8. The HF one even adds a centering pin which was a nice touch and the bushing is solid brass. I still needed templates so I designed something quick in Sketchup and cut it out on the...

1/2 lock miter router bit

1/2 lock miter router bit

10-19-2010 09:21 PM by Edward83 | 13 comments »

I saw this while looking through the router bits at Lowes. I never heard of of a lock miter router bit and feeling adventurous I decided to drop the thirty dollars for it in hopes of upping my abilities to build a better quality box. I read the instructions and set it up in my router table. The instructions suggest having a few pieces to practice on, and believe me they weren’t kidding. It says that you can use it on boards up to 3/4 in. but I would do it a little shy. The nature o...
