Shopsmith Joint Matic - Horizonal Router

Shopsmith Joint Matic - Horizonal Router

First I must say that the photos are not mine. I surfed the net and found them. This review is for a discontinued tool. Can’t buy it new anymore, but if you find one, grab it. It is a rare tool. Shopsmith originally sold for $999. There is currently one for sale on craigslist.org in Dallas for $600 I bought mine on eBay a few years ago. It came with a Porter Cable router base that fits my 690.Even came with the optional Shopsmith stand. I got one heck of a bargain. Paid twice a...

Mortise Pal Review: Highly Recommended

Mortise Pal Review: Highly Recommended

307 days ago by newTim | 6 comments »

January 23rd, 2009Review: Mortise Palhttp://www.mortisepal.com/ I highly recommend this jig. It is well machined and works exactly as shown; a rare achievement in woodworking, I know. I purchased the original MP a few months back and quickly discovered it would only fit 2 1/4” (?) maximum. Well they must have heard some feedback and they came out with Version 2.0 which will straddle 3” stock and has a couple of other improvements. Things I look for in tools include: Is it safe? Is i...

Incra - A great router fence

Incra - A great router fence

661 days ago by GaryK | 10 comments »

I purchased this after seeing it at the Woodworkers show in Dallas this year. I didn’t get it at the show becausewoodpeckers had it cheaper and free shipping. (Saved $80) I have been looking at it for a while, but thought what’s the big deal, my fence works just fine. Then atthe show I saw some features that I liked. Now, like at all shows they have nice slick demos that they doto make their product look simple and easy. Well, for the most part it is simple and easy. The sys...

MLCS Horizontal Router Table

MLCS Horizontal Router Table

406 days ago by Toolz | 7 comments »

I was having trouble routing wide panels standing on edge on my router table. I made a jig to stand panels on edge for trimming solid edge moldings on plywood but was unhappy with the results. After reading reviews http://www.mlcswoodworking.com/shopsite_sc/store/html/smarthtml/pages/review1.htm#Horizonal_Tab_anchor and watching the short video http://www.mlcswoodworking.com/shopsite_sc/store/html/smarthtml/pages/horizontal_router_table.html I ordered the table and mounted a Craftsman Model 3...

First Dovetails Ever. Easy as Pie with the Akeda BC24 Dovetail Jig

First Dovetails Ever. Easy as Pie with the Akeda BC24 Dovetail Jig

137 days ago by thiel | 17 comments »

First, Some BackgroundThere’s one thing I should clarify so you’ll put this jig in the proper perspective: I’ve never made a dovetail. Not by hand, not by machine. I’ve never even seen a dovetail jig used (except on New Yankee Workshop). To be perfectly honest, I didn’t (until this morning) know the difference between a pin and a tail. That being said, I have aspirations of building fine furniture of my own design some day. And with those aspirations in mind, I try to make each tool p...

The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly

The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly

511 days ago by FloridaUFGator | 23 comments »

I purchased this after seeing it at a woodworking show. Man did it look good. The guy was doing all kinds of stuff with it (including sucking the money out of my wallet). He cut half blinds, through, sliding dovetails, variable spaced, fixed space, etc. I then proceeded to watch Norm do the same thing on the video that was running next to the demo. It was about 1/2hr long and I think I watched it 3-times throughout the day (before I bought it). The great part is that is a $599 retail ma...

Table works great though installation is finicky

Table works great though installation is finicky

422 days ago by JLYoung | 8 comments »

I ordered this router table insert plate on a Thursday afternoon and received it on Monday afternoon which I think is an excellent delivery time. The shipment arrived well packaged with everything in it. The instructions to install this thing are very detailed and laid out in a logical step by step manner, which though very complex and daunting upon first review, became quite logical once you take the time to follow the instruction procedure. It took me quite a bit of time to get this plat...

Precise Repeatability for Multiples

Precise Repeatability for Multiples

I am currently building a set of 6 Arts & Crafts chairs as designed by Kevin Rodel in FWW. I will be doing a project posting soon, but wanted to recommend a tool that really helped me on this job. In order to reduce individual fitting and trimming of all the joints, it is necessary to make mortises in the same place on each piece. With this jig, it’s easy to do. The tall back leg has 5 mortises, half of them angled. I was able to set up the jig, and place the mortises so the teno...

Easy router dadoes with DadoMax

Easy router dadoes with DadoMax

20 days ago by Peter O | 8 comments »

The DadoMax makes easy, accurate router dados. Setup is easy and it makes tight-fitting dados regardless of material thickness. The DadoMax is constructed of high-quality materials, and has a large enough surface that there is no worry of the router tipping. It comes in a metal case and includes replacements parts for items that might be easily lost. The DadoMax adjusts to a variety of straightedges, and you can buy the DadoMax without a straightedge if you already have one. I only gave...
