Great planer for a small shop

Great planer for a small shop

I purchased this at sears a couple years ago and love it. No complaints at all. It is 13” wide, it can take hard wood well, cuts well and has a sturdy frame. The lowering top is also a neat design that makes use easy. It features an easy to read ruler on the side and has preset widths to make your planning easy. I highly recommend this to all. If you want to take it to a job site, you can. It is about 100 lbs. But is a bit akward to carry by yourself, although I have done it m...

Harbor Freight junk

Harbor Freight junk

I’ve owned this planer a while now and would not recommend it to anyone. The handle doesn’t tighten all the way and the screw comes loose after a few strokes. There is no real lateral adjustment, instead there are a pair of screws that hold the blade quite clumsily. The screws also aren’t straight. There s no chip breaker so the only pressure on the blade is a lump of metal and a pressure screw that is prone to failure. The redeeming qualities are it’s price ($12 that ...

Ryobi AP1301

Ryobi AP1301

I love my planer, again for the price. Mine does have the 4” dust port so it must be a later version. I recently noticed that it is not planing a consistent thickness across the width of the board and I am getting inconsistent snipe, some times worse than others on the same board. It is going off to a service center tomorrow.

Great Tool .. Very powerful but easy to master

Great Tool .. Very powerful but easy to master

I purchased this planner as a impulse buy from the Bosch -CPO website. When it came in I put the box on a shelf somewhere, and felt guilty. Then, I got a real good deal on rough lumber, so I had to take it out of the box. the tool impressed me with its rock solid feel, this no toy, this tool means business. The first few tries were not so good, but I started to get reasonable results in a few days. My skill at using the tool improved rapidly, the trick is keep the little arrows pointe...

If you are a hobby woodworker check this unit out.

If you are a hobby woodworker check this unit out.

This is a great planer, out of the box the unit performed very well very smooth surface and virtually no snipe. I adjusted the in feed and out feed tables now there is no snipe at all. The only slightly annoying thing is the out feed table will not fold up all the way with the dust collection port installed but I can live with that (I’m not even knocking any stars off). I was thinking about getting the Dewalt 735x but I wanted a segmented cutting head, and upgrading the Dewalt later was way o...

Bought one this evening!

Bought one this evening!

Based on the reviews here on LJ forum and a good review in WOOD magazine, I took the plunge and bought one at Lowe’s this evening. I had saved up some money and have it in the garage, ready to open, read the manual (real men don’t read the manual), build a stand for it and make lots of wood dust or chips, whatever it makes. I’m going to plane some scrap pine to get used to it and make any necessary adjustments . The LOML wants a dining table. I have a stack of pecan that...

Excellent planer, but get the extended tables

Excellent planer, but get the extended tables

This is my first planer, so I don’t have anything to compare it to, but it works great. All of the controls are easy to use, two speeds (different # of CPI for dimensioning or finishing). I like the fact that the cutter head is connected to the base with 4 risers instead of two like the DW734 and DW733 as well as the Ridgid and Ryobi planers they carry at Lowes and Home Depot. The depth adjustment is extremely easy to use and once I set it, it hasn’t moved once. The top is e...

GREAT PLANER

GREAT PLANER

229 days ago by JHIM | 10 comments »

i just recently i had a mild “must buy all the tools i need now” break down. I got sick of not having what i need and having to work around my lack of tool problem. so i sat out to but a big cabinet saw. the gentleman i bought it from also had the dewalt DW735 planner he only used a few times. after a little negotiating i stole it for 200 bucks. and might i add this think didn’t have a single scratch on the out feed tables. it was BRAND NEW. i LOVE it. i comes with the tool ...

12-1/2" benctop planer

12-1/2" benctop planer

2023 days ago by rwyoung | 7 comments »

For the same reasons I wanted a benchtop jointer, I wanted a benchtop planer. There are a few reviews of the 13” model around and looking at their manals on line, the 12-1/2 is quite similar and somewhat cheaper. The unit came well packed with two pieces of form fit styrofoam and a nice heavy poly bag to protect the planer. Also in the box was a chip collection shroud with a 4” port in addition to the stock deflector. As near as I could tell, the collection shroud is a ̶...
