This is a great planer, out of the box the unit performed very well very smooth surface and virtually no snipe. I adjusted the in feed and out feed tables now there is no snipe at all. The only slightly annoying thing is the out feed table will not fold up all the way with the dust collection port installed but I can live with that (I’m not even knocking any stars off). I was thinking about getting the Dewalt 735x but I wanted a segmented cutting head, and upgrading the Dewalt later was way o...

Best used Tool I ever purchased

Best used Tool I ever purchased

I got this Ryobi 1300 Planer 3 years ago…I took a shot at it for $100 used, but actually almost new…the owner passed away just after buying it, and his wife sold it to me, I would have given her more, but that’s all she wanted. I have the box, receipt, EVERYTHING!I’ve had a Delta, and and an ole General…I gotta give this Ryobi the props though…and it is the ONLY Ryobi tool I own…I am not a big fan, but this older 1300 is a great design. The lock is...

Mostly does what it is supposed to

Mostly does what it is supposed to

I bought this planer about a year and a half ago. I wanted to upgrade my 13” lunchbox planer and figured that there was no sense just upgrading to 15”. I can’t remember what lead to my decision to go with the Powermatic over other brands. The planer is heavily built and came with large, cast iron extension tables. Built in wheels made it easy to move around, thankfully because it is almost 800lbs! It also comes with an extra gear sprocket and gear chain to change the feedi...

Grizzly G1033X Workhorse

Grizzly G1033X Workhorse

Since my wife says I am very hard to buy a Christmas present for, I normally act excited and appreciative when I open a Christmas gift, even if it is something I already have or is the wrong size or color. SO I normally buy my own so I get what I can really use. I had a G0453Z that I purchased three years ago. It worked well and with the increased volume here in the shop I decided it was time to upgrade to a larger planer with added features and more power. (Sounds like Tim Allen doesn&...

GREAT PLANER

i just recently i had a mild “must buy all the tools i need now” break down. I got sick of not having what i need and having to work around my lack of tool problem. so i sat out to but a big cabinet saw. the gentleman i bought it from also had the dewalt DW735 planner he only used a few times. after a little negotiating i stole it for 200 bucks. and might i add this think didn’t have a single scratch on the out feed tables. it was BRAND NEW. i LOVE it. i comes with the tool ...

Harbor Freight junk

Harbor Freight junk

I’ve owned this planer a while now and would not recommend it to anyone. The handle doesn’t tighten all the way and the screw comes loose after a few strokes. There is no real lateral adjustment, instead there are a pair of screws that hold the blade quite clumsily. The screws also aren’t straight. There s no chip breaker so the only pressure on the blade is a lump of metal and a pressure screw that is prone to failure. The redeeming qualities are it’s price ($12 that ...

Got me a new DeWalt 735X

Got me a new DeWalt 735X

Freight truck delivered it to day. Instruction manual is good. Got it unpacked and assembled on my stand in less than an hour. Ran the first wood through it at the dimension speed, a rough 4/4 piece of Pin Oak. Amazing finish, even at that speed. I’m sure the slower speed (more cuts per inch) will be just as pretty. Oh, and not a hint of snipe!Attaching the tables was a snap and, they are dead even with the bed. Did I mention….no snipe! The depth of cut indicator and the cutter ...

DeWalt DW734 12 inch thickness planer

DeWalt DW734 12 inch thickness planer

I’ve had this planer for about 2 years now and have run lots of wood through it. From easy stuff like aspen to nastier stuff like ipe and purpleheart. My overall experience with the tool has been excellent. I don’t know how I got along before I got a planer. The DW734 is the lower end of DeWalt’s “lunchbox” planers. The fancier one being the DW735. This planer has three knives, of the disposable variety. They are “double sided”. When the k...

Planer has been a horse - till I went to rotate the carbide cutters.

UPDATE: When I bought this planer 18 months ago, for some reason I also bought a pack of ten cutters. When I received the planer, I found a very small black piece of cardboard with a little blister pack stapled to it, with a couple of extra cutters. Completely forgot about it and put it with the odd wrenches we all have to collect. In this case, in a clear container with my router table wrenches, planer wrenches, and jointer wrenches, since the tools all sit pretty close to each other in my...

Ridgid T1300 Planer Blade Replacements

Ridgid T1300 Planer Blade Replacements

390 days ago by OakHill | 18 comments »

As an owner of the Ridgid T1300, buying new blades from Home Depot orRidgid is darn near impossible. While searching the internet for replacementsI found the Powertec 128070 blades. Advertised as “Replacement blades forthe T1300” Two sets were purchased through Amazon for $25.19 per set. A few dollarsless than the price at Home Depot, when they were available. Upon receiving the blades the first thing I did was inspect the blades using aMicrometer. The thickness was .073, the same as...
