Ridgid 13" planer. Disappointed

Ridgid 13" planer. Disappointed

I’m not going to lie, at first i was very impressd with this planer. But I have come across a serious problem for the second time now with the same one. Not sure if it was just a lemon but its a real disappointment and frustration when you run a nice piece through and on one edge its lets say 3/4” and its tapered down to almost 5/8” on the other. The blade over time keeps slipping on a slight angle when it should be even all the way through. Adjusting it shouldnt be an opti...

Grizzy G1021x2 15" Helical Planer - Initial impressions review

Grizzy G1021x2 15" Helical Planer - Initial impressions review

This is another one of those “I just got the tool” reviews, but there is so little information out there about this planer I thought this might be helpful to some… Grizzly offers a few 15” planers, and more than one with helical cutterheads. I chose this one because it wasnt made in China (no tariff fee) and because the cutterheads are curved and set at a 30 degree angle. their other option, G0453, is made in china and uses straight inserts that are parallel to the ...

Awesome accuracy

I recently bought a dewalt planer and amazon suggested i buy a wr510 with it. It was only $47, so I did. 2 weeks later its now $63 on amazon…. Installation was kinda hard at the begining. I would have paid $10-15 more if it came with a replacement bracket that you can take off the dewalt (see black bracket in 2nd picture). The double sided tape makes it difficult to get it lined up exactly so the bottom of it is flush with the bottom of the planer surface. They suggest it be lev...

I wish i could review multiple products in one review, but i’ll post several. I bought a dewalt dw735x off Amazon for $499, plus the stand for $141 more, both shipped with prime. I’ve never used a planer before and had a huge pile of old rough sawn pine and oak. I don’t have a jointer, so i was feeding the boards in and might have been cuped, warped, twisted, ect. I would plane one side, then the other and alternate back and forth. I installed a Wixey WR510 off am...

Planer upgrade

Planer upgrade

08-31-2018 12:38 PM by Jarrhead | 6 comments »

So, I upgraded the planer in the shop. Went from the old tried and true Jet JPM-13 Planer Moulder, to a Grizzly G0453W. I wanted a little larger capacity, and a higher horsepower motor. Found the planer, used, on Craigslist for $1000. It needed a little lovin’, but overall was in pretty good shape. Some surface rust, and a worn out set of blades. The G0453W is kind of a Grizzly anomaly. They apparently only manufactured it for a year or two, and it is now discontinued. I can’t find an...

Oliver 4420 16” 5hp helical Planer

Hello Fellow Lumberjocks, I am writing to review the Oliver 4420 16” 5hp thickness planer. This is going to be a two part review. I just received the machine today. So this part of the review will be about my initial impression, setting the machine up, packaging, and Oliver customer service. I will follow up with an update after a few months when I have run several hundred board feet of lumber through the machine. I will start off by saying I did a ton of research before I made this purcha...

Dewalt 13” thickness planer review

Dewalt 13” thickness planer review

I’ve had this planer for 3 months and I am very satisfied. It’s a huge upgrade from my ryobi planer. I had some really rough mahogany that it planned down with no issues. The ryobi died trying to take off a 1/16” cut. I’ve put a bunch of hard wood through it as well as some cutting board projects. No chatter no sniping. I’ve planes down 3/4” strips to 1/8” thick. I put a review on YouTube you can check out the link below. https://youtu.be/pJLDbD2y7wM

DW735 / DW735X Dust Collection

DW735 / DW735X Dust Collection

12-19-2017 12:32 AM by DakotaHeirlooms | 8 comments »

I recently ordered a DW735X to replace my old DW734. Note the difference between the DW735 and the DW735X is that the DW735X comes with an extra set of blades and the extension tables. The machine has worked as advertised so far. I can’t feel any difference on the finish between the 2 speeds. Snipe is negligible. I think the complaints I’ve read about the blades not lasting is because the user is taking too much material at a time. The only problem that I had with the DW735 is the dust col...

Solid Combo Machine

Solid Combo Machine

Introduction I bought this in 2014 and have now used it enough (and procrastinated enough) that it’s time to do a review. It’s a long one because when I was shopping for this there were no reviews anywhere and now I’m in the same boat with no reviews of table saws I’m looking at so I decided I needed to pay it forward and do my part by doing a detailed review. Hopefully someone finds it useful. In making this purchase I looked at a number of alternatives. I looked at ...

Ultimate lunchbox

Ultimate lunchbox

09-22-2016 08:08 PM by Joshh | 2 comments »

After spending the whole weekend planing some 2×4s and trying to find my way from under a mountain of shavings I finally decided on a power planer. I got a refurbished one but would be probably better off buying new for the piece of mind that the one was not too abused.See how the table is not in pristine shape out of the box. With the planer I did more in half an hour than I could do with hand planes in two days. It works exceptionally well on changing grain near knots where no ma...
