Initial Review for Rigid R4151
256 days ago by steve3604 | 12 comments »
Been shopping for Miter Saws since last fall, read the reviews, searched the web, yada yada, 20% off sale on rigid tools at Home Depot so went and checked it out. I currently have some Rigid tools, (TS3650 table saw totally love it, TP1300 2 blade planer love it, floor model drill press don’t love it but its decent), looked at sliders, and non-sliders 10 and 12 inch, they even had some factory refurb 12” sliders for 349.00. I eventually went with the new R4151 and here’s wha...
Ridgid MS1290LZ Sliding Compound Miter Saw

I am reasonably new to woodworking, if one can call getting into it seriously only four years ago as “new.” I will also note that it was four years ago that I retired from a 35-year career at a university library. Once I retired I told my wife that I wanted to get a few tools so that it would be easier to do home-improvement projects. One thing led to another and now I have a workshop full of tools. My woodworking neophyte status notwithstanding, I am not new to reviewing produ...
Great Saw for a Great Price

This is my first Miter Saw so i have nothing to compare it to but i think that it is a great Miter Saw. Just to start off this saw costs 140$ at Lowe’s and i bought mine without a laser. A wise man once told me that the blade does that cutting and not the laser, and he wants to see where the actual thing that’s doing the actual cutting is going to actually cut. Now back to the saw. it came ready to run right out of the box and all the different angles that i checked were right ...

Makita LS1013F 10-inch Compound Sliding Miter Saw Review

Introduction – Over the last 14+ years, I’ve been using a 10-inch Craftsman Compound Miter Saw. It has served me well. In conjunction with the Craftsman Miter Saw, I had purchased a used Craftsman Radial Arm Saw. Unfortunately the Radial Arm saw had a wobble to it. It was not very accurate. I am guessing the previous owner damaged the saw mechanics. Since that time the sliding miter saw has emerged as a viable tool to replace the regular miter saw and the radial arm saw. With limited w...
Festool Mitre saw

Having owned an Hitachi cf8 for years and very well pleased with it’s accuracy I was hard to please but along came the kapex KS120 by Festool and i was blowen away. The twin lasers and the fine adjustment built into the right sliding bar is awesome. The removable fences and hold downs are easly removed and the saw can be securely locked in any angle with ease. The dust extraction is fantastic especially when connected to a vacuum. Takes up less room as the head of the saw slides on the...
Hitachi misses the mark with their model C12LSH
276 days ago by Bob #2 | 7 comments »
Last October 27/2007 I was induced to purchase the above mentioned CMS at a trade show .They Hitachi offered me a $100.00 rebate off the floor price to complete with Bosch and Dewalt who were, as I remember, breathing down their necks with pricing. It’s now March 3th 2008 and despite several e-mails and phone calls I am told to be patient another 2 weeks and they would give me my money back. The last time they said that it took three weeks before I eventually called again. Had they not...

I have always looked at Hitachi Tools when they first came out and starting reading all the reviews I could find on there new line of tools.I was REALLY impressed because after reading( the reviews..) on them I never once read anything bad about there products.I even posted questions on several Woodworkers forums. When the time came to replace my tired old Delta I chose an Hitachi 12 inch Compound Miter Saw,well also for the fact I got a great deal on it too..!!As always when buying a new too...
Irwin Miter Saw Laser Guide -- works well so far
190 days ago by mgradwohl | 11 comments »
This weekend I bought and installed the Irwin Miter Saw Laser Guide onto my DeWalt Miter Saw. I’m very happy with it so far. It was easy to install It projects a crisp clean line to the left of the blade (unless your blade retaining nut is on the right of the blade) It is very helpful with complex cuts or cutting complex material It is less helpful with straight cuts on square material (it’s easier for you to know where the blade will be cutting in this regard) It was c...
Lightweight saw cuts with power and precision

I don’t like the big 10 and 12” Slide compound saws. They aretoo heavy to easily move around. I’m a relatively young man andI am strong, but still I don’t like lifting much more than 40 lbs. if I’m installing trim. I bought this saw because I was doing a job where I had to miter9” wide crown moulding and my older 12” miter saw (not a slider)wasn’t able to do it, even on the flat. The larger a blade on one of these sliding saws, the more ...
