Makita LS1214F 12-Inch Dual Bevel Sliding Compound Miter Saw

I just bought this Makita 12” sliding miter saw and cannot say enough good about this saw. I went to Acme Tool an hour and a half away in Cedar Rapids so I could play with the Makita, Bosch and Dewalt miter saws. I felt the Makita had the smoothest slides of all three and liked the way the slides are on the bottom of the saw. There was no movment whatsoever and it just seemed like the best quality saw. It was right on the nuts out of the box and I cut all my trim for the shop with it. I would...
A review and a modification

This saw is discontinued now, replaced by a new model but some stores around me still have a few left on their shelves. I picked mine up for about $360.00, that price for a Bosch slider is pretty good in my books. As with any other miter saw out there dust collection sucks but that is to be expected I guess. It came with a 60 tooth blade that worked great but after its life was up I replaced it with a Freud. The only real problem that this one has is that it is very hard to pull down when you...

I am in the middle of renovating an old house. I purchased a KING Canada 10” miter saw (I’ll review that at a later date) to help with the many varied jobs that that entails. The problem was the table that was sold by King Canada (KC) was next to useless. I have seen many plans for miter saw tables but none were quite right because they never seemed to be very portable. I need easy portability because I have arthritis in my spine and can’t muscle things around like I hav...
Craftsman 10" SCMS....A DO NOT buy
63 days ago by MedicKen | 18 comments »
I purchased this saw brand new a couple of years ago. I wanted to give it a good run before doing a review. My first overall impression when I was looking for a saw was this would fit the bill and work nicely for my needs. I looked at some of the major brands when I decided I need a SCMS. My first choice was Bosch, but the price drove me away. Then I went to DeWalt but I couldnt find the model I wanted locally and I wasnt gonna pay for shipping. So I guess I kinda settled on this one. I sh...
Excellent accuracy for such a cheap saw. Not such a great blade.

The Black and Decker Firestorm line was a Lowes specific line of tools that was discontinued at the end of 2008. With some of the product offerings pulling them from the market was a good thing to do (I will post a review of the router later), but with some of their offerings, hobbyist woodworkers, and home improvement DIY’ers got left out in the cold. I purchased my FS1000L on sale in January of 2008, and it has seen extensive use since the purchase. The stand (not included, separat...
Bosch 5412L/T4B Combo Makes The Cut

It might not seem right for a person such as myself to be reviewing and rating a compound miter saw because I don’t have a lot of experience with them or many different models. But I think it’s suffice to say if a novice can buy and assemble one of these and use it within minutes of setup AND make dead on accurate cuts and miters then the saw almost speaks for itself. This is true of the Bosch 5412L 12” Sliding Dual Compound Miter Saw and Bosch T4B Gravity Rise Miter Saw ...
New affordable sliding mater saw

Hey True Believers, I’ve needed a new miter saw for too long now, and had actually purchased a 10” Skil from WorkShop tools. A couple weeks back I saw on their website that they had generic SLIDING miter saw for about 140.00. It was TD 10” Sliding Miter saw. Well, I’ve been trying to figure out where to put a big Radial arm saw I had (and had never used) and ended up taking the plunge with the new sliding miter instead. Since I had never opened up the box with...
Very good saw for a variety of uses

My wife and I bought a house two years ago, and planned to redo the kitchen pretty extensively. I grew up doing construction projects with my step-father and am able to do framing, drywall, finish work, electrical, and very basic plumbing on my own. We ended up tearing it down to the studs and starting from scratch, and did 99% of the project ourselves. I realized before we started that I was going to need more power tools. I had a drill, jigsaw, circular saw, and hand tools, but had no sp...
Hitachi C12LSH sliding compound saw - A tale of woes
217 days ago by WhittleMeThis | 7 comments »
I was shopping for a new Sliding Compound Miter Saw and looked at all the offerings from the major tool manufacturers. I came across the Hitachi 12” sliding compound saw and, being somewhat of a gadget person, I found the digital miter gauge and the laser guide compelling features along with the short rear footprint requirement (sliding saws are notorious for requiring a huge amount of space behind the saw for slide travel). Having my interest peaked I read some reviews from a few of ...
A New and Improved Miter Saw (circa 1900!)

It being April Fool’s Day, I couldn’t resist reviewing this old dandy! The restaurant I worked at in 1999 was housed in an 1800’s built brick factory building. My Parents say that when they were young it had been a meat packing and processing plant and in the basement there were tracks and hooks for transporting sides of beef and what not. Also in the basement was a corner that was devoted to a small carpenter’s shop and it was there that I found this baby collecting d...
