We had someone steel the new 10” makita slider and the old turd of a dewalt slider from the jobsite last week. we are trimming out a hotel and have to have the tools on sight so the boss picked up a new dewalt at the BORG. I am a fan of the dewalt. I have used this saw 12 hours a day for the last 5 days and it has probably cut a few miles of trim between the two shifts. it was dead nuts right out of the box. it has performed so well that I told him to pick up another one on his way...

Great Sliding Compound Miter Saw for Woodworkers on a Budget

Great Sliding Compound Miter Saw for Woodworkers on a Budget

I’ve had an old Ryobi $99 Home Depot special miter saw for years and was looking to upgrade to a sliding model for wider cut capacity. I really wanted a laser too, because lasers are awesome. I did a lot of searching on Amazon and at the usual woodworking sites and pretty much resigned myself to spending $400-500 for a decent sliding compound miter saw from Milwaukee or Dewalt and started saving money. That was until I walked through the tool section at Lowes and noticed their ne...

A neighbour down the street asked me to look at his mitre saw. He said it wasn’t cutting square in any direction. I tuned it up best as I could and figured, while I’m here, I could review it. 10 inch Craftsman Professional, at first, I was impressed. Craftsman engineers did a good job disguising cheap metal as a ‘professional saw’. The only reason I’m going to be so harsh on this saw is the fact they stick a big “PROFESSIONAL” logo on them. I’...

Ryobi ONE+ 18-Volt 7-1/4 in. Miter Saw

Yes I know RYOBI. The last Ryobi product I bought was 20+ years ago and have always thought of them as homeowner specials and not something a contractor of 30 years would use that has always tried to work with “Big Boy” tools. So why did I try this out? I needed a lightweight miter saw to cut some trim in a remodel I’m working on and I didn’t want to keep dragging around my Bosch 12” sliding miter saw nor did I want to keep traveling back and forth to the Bosch ei...

Hitachi misses the mark with their model C12LSH

Last October 27/2007 I was induced to purchase the above mentioned CMS at a trade show .They Hitachi offered me a $100.00 rebate off the floor price to complete with Bosch and Dewalt who were, as I remember, breathing down their necks with pricing. It’s now March 3th 2008 and despite several e-mails and phone calls I am told to be patient another 2 weeks and they would give me my money back. The last time they said that it took three weeks before I eventually called again. Had they not...

This saw is discontinued now, replaced by a new model but some stores around me still have a few left on their shelves. I picked mine up for about $360.00, that price for a Bosch slider is pretty good in my books. As with any other miter saw out there dust collection sucks but that is to be expected I guess. It came with a 60 tooth blade that worked great but after its life was up I replaced it with a Freud. The only real problem that this one has is that it is very hard to pull down when you...

A Budget Sliding Miter Saw

A Budget Sliding Miter Saw

For those of you crazy enough to go out yesterday for the “black Friday” overly rated shopping day, I still call you all crazy to subject yourself to that madness. I did have to venture out into that world as I needed some supplies from one of our home supply centers. In the store it was absolute craziness but I had to be there and I stumbled upon a sliding miter saw for a whopping $79.00. Never heard of the brand and a lot of the things i do are too big for my old 8 1/2”...

01. shippingI ordered this from reconditionedsales.comPackaging was pretty normal, like the standard for this type of tool. Huge box to say the least. Ordered on a Friday and received the saw on a Tuesday morning with regular UPS shipping. 02. hardware listEverything was in the box. Box looked like it was new. This was however a reconditioned miter saw, but I could not tell it at all. 03. assemblingEasy, not much to do. 04. tuning and adjustingAdjusted the insert throat on each s...

Klutch Compound Sliding Miter Saw with Laser Guide — 10in.

I already have had both a 12” Dewalt and a 7 1/4” Craftsman miter saw for many years. They have served their purpose well. But I wanted a 10” sliding for my personal shop. We all know you can put a crap blade on a good saw and get crap, but sometimes… sometimes you can put a good blade on a good saw and get great results. That’s what I have here. This saw is smooth operating, easily adjusts and dials in, is light weight, and has been powerful enough for eve...
