Makita LS1016L Sliding Mitersaw

Makita LS1016L Sliding Mitersaw

I bought this saw a few months back because I needed better accuracy than my old RAS could deliver consistently. I did a bit of research comparing models, prices, sizes, and I liked the feel and action of this saw the best, as I didn’t really want or need a 12 inch miter saw if I could get one in the 10 inch range that could cut a dimensional 4×4 if need be. After using it for crosscuts, bevels and miters over the past few months I can say that I am really happy with my p...

Santa brought a New Bosch GCM12sd miter saw

Santa brought a New Bosch GCM12sd miter saw

My old Delta chopsaw has served me well for a number of years, but many recent projects hungered for a better way to cut compoundangles with a larger crosscutting capacity. Santa brought a new saw for me this Christmas. Its a Bosch GCM12sd, which is one very large saw, compared to the Delta chopsaw. This thing is amazing. The slide mechanism is a bit of engineering marvel if you ask me.The “articulating” arm, as they call it, moves effortlessly across the bed of the sawwith a o...

Craftsman MiterMate Saw...Oops, I goofed again.

Craftsman MiterMate Saw...Oops, I goofed again.

Update to this review at the bottom labeled “UPDATE” Yet another $225 mistake, and the reason I KNOW when I buy something without thinking about it for about a month that I’ll probably goof. I just do a little work around my house, but my loving wife lets me buy nice tools. We figure the cost of a tool is less than hiring someone to do the work. I’d been looking at miter saws for a while; I have two radial arm saws in the shop, but it’s a pain to run back a...

One Simply Sweet Saw

One Simply Sweet Saw

I purchased this saw about 6 months ago and have been very happy with its performance. I did lots of research and read many reviews on many different saws and also received some great feedback from other LJ’s. I decided that for the money and my intended usage, this offered the most bang for the buck. I have used and own several different Hitachi tools and they have always performed very well for me. In some of the reviews I read, it was said that the sub fence was either bent or broken, p...

Initial Review for Rigid R4151

Initial Review for Rigid R4151

Been shopping for Miter Saws since last fall, read the reviews, searched the web, yada yada, 20% off sale on rigid tools at Home Depot so went and checked it out. I currently have some Rigid tools, (TS3650 table saw totally love it, TP1300 2 blade planer love it, floor model drill press don’t love it but its decent), looked at sliders, and non-sliders 10 and 12 inch, they even had some factory refurb 12” sliders for 349.00. I eventually went with the new R4151 and here’s wha...

Ridgid MS1290LZ Sliding Compound Miter Saw

Ridgid MS1290LZ Sliding Compound Miter Saw

I am reasonably new to woodworking, if one can call getting into it seriously only four years ago as “new.” I will also note that it was four years ago that I retired from a 35-year career at a university library. Once I retired I told my wife that I wanted to get a few tools so that it would be easier to do home-improvement projects. One thing led to another and now I have a workshop full of tools. My woodworking neophyte status notwithstanding, I am not new to reviewing produ...

Bosch 5412L/T4B Combo Makes The Cut

Bosch 5412L/T4B Combo Makes The Cut

It might not seem right for a person such as myself to be reviewing and rating a compound miter saw because I don’t have a lot of experience with them or many different models. But I think it’s suffice to say if a novice can buy and assemble one of these and use it within minutes of setup AND make dead on accurate cuts and miters then the saw almost speaks for itself. This is true of the Bosch 5412L 12” Sliding Dual Compound Miter Saw and Bosch T4B Gravity Rise Miter Saw ...

Ridgid MS1290LZA & MS-UV Mobile base

Ridgid MS1290LZA & MS-UV Mobile base

1077 days ago by lilredweldingrod | 14 comments »

I’ve had my Ridgid miter saw for two years now. At first I found it required more room in my shop than I had. After working around the large footprint, I bought the MS-UV mobile cart. I feel that I have the perfect combination now. The saw with a Freud D1296N blade is a dream to work with. And now that I have added the mobile base, my problem with the footprint is a thing of the past. Being in a wheelchair makes moving most shop equipment a dreaded chore. But the large wheels and the b...

Makita LS1214F 12-Inch Dual Bevel Sliding Compound Miter Saw

Makita LS1214F 12-Inch Dual Bevel Sliding Compound Miter Saw

1582 days ago by ND2ELK | 13 comments »

I just bought this Makita 12” sliding miter saw and cannot say enough good about this saw. I went to Acme Tool an hour and a half away in Cedar Rapids so I could play with the Makita, Bosch and Dewalt miter saws. I felt the Makita had the smoothest slides of all three and liked the way the slides are on the bottom of the saw. There was no movment whatsoever and it just seemed like the best quality saw. It was right on the nuts out of the box and I cut all my trim for the shop with it. I would...
