Craftsman 10" SCMS....A DO NOT buy

Craftsman 10" SCMS....A DO NOT buy

63 days ago by MedicKen | 18 comments »

I purchased this saw brand new a couple of years ago. I wanted to give it a good run before doing a review. My first overall impression when I was looking for a saw was this would fit the bill and work nicely for my needs. I looked at some of the major brands when I decided I need a SCMS. My first choice was Bosch, but the price drove me away. Then I went to DeWalt but I couldnt find the model I wanted locally and I wasnt gonna pay for shipping. So I guess I kinda settled on this one. I sh...

Bosch 5412L/T4B Combo Makes The Cut

Bosch 5412L/T4B Combo Makes The Cut

It might not seem right for a person such as myself to be reviewing and rating a compound miter saw because I don’t have a lot of experience with them or many different models. But I think it’s suffice to say if a novice can buy and assemble one of these and use it within minutes of setup AND make dead on accurate cuts and miters then the saw almost speaks for itself. This is true of the Bosch 5412L 12” Sliding Dual Compound Miter Saw and Bosch T4B Gravity Rise Miter Saw ...

Ridgid MS1290LZ Sliding Compound Miter Saw

I am reasonably new to woodworking, if one can call getting into it seriously only four years ago as “new.” I will also note that it was four years ago that I retired from a 35-year career at a university library. Once I retired I told my wife that I wanted to get a few tools so that it would be easier to do home-improvement projects. One thing led to another and now I have a workshop full of tools. My woodworking neophyte status notwithstanding, I am not new to reviewing produ...

Makita LS1214F 12-Inch Dual Bevel Sliding Compound Miter Saw

Makita LS1214F 12-Inch Dual Bevel Sliding Compound Miter Saw

I just bought this Makita 12” sliding miter saw and cannot say enough good about this saw. I went to Acme Tool an hour and a half away in Cedar Rapids so I could play with the Makita, Bosch and Dewalt miter saws. I felt the Makita had the smoothest slides of all three and liked the way the slides are on the bottom of the saw. There was no movment whatsoever and it just seemed like the best quality saw. It was right on the nuts out of the box and I cut all my trim for the shop with it. I would...

Initial Review for Rigid R4151

Initial Review for Rigid R4151

613 days ago by steve3604 | 12 comments »

Been shopping for Miter Saws since last fall, read the reviews, searched the web, yada yada, 20% off sale on rigid tools at Home Depot so went and checked it out. I currently have some Rigid tools, (TS3650 table saw totally love it, TP1300 2 blade planer love it, floor model drill press don’t love it but its decent), looked at sliders, and non-sliders 10 and 12 inch, they even had some factory refurb 12” sliders for 349.00. I eventually went with the new R4151 and here’s wha...

Irwin Miter Saw Laser Guide -- works well so far

Irwin Miter Saw Laser Guide -- works well so far

This weekend I bought and installed the Irwin Miter Saw Laser Guide onto my DeWalt Miter Saw. I’m very happy with it so far. It was easy to install It projects a crisp clean line to the left of the blade (unless your blade retaining nut is on the right of the blade) It is very helpful with complex cuts or cutting complex material It is less helpful with straight cuts on square material (it’s easier for you to know where the blade will be cutting in this regard) It was c...

A review and a modification

A review and a modification

This saw is discontinued now, replaced by a new model but some stores around me still have a few left on their shelves. I picked mine up for about $360.00, that price for a Bosch slider is pretty good in my books. As with any other miter saw out there dust collection sucks but that is to be expected I guess. It came with a 60 tooth blade that worked great but after its life was up I replaced it with a Freud. The only real problem that this one has is that it is very hard to pull down when you...

I HAVE USED ONE OF THESE SAWS FOR 4 YEARS. IT IS ONE OF THE VERY BEST. IT WAS RATED THE BEST 10 INCH SAW FOR 3 YEARS STRAIGHT. THIS YEAR THERE IS A SAW THAT WAS RATED HIGHER BUT IT COST 1200.00. SO, THIS YEAR ..08.. IT IS RATED THE BEST SAW FOR THE MONEY. I BELEIVE THIS SAW CAN BE SERVICED AT 2 DIFFERENT LOCATIONS HERE IN THE USA. THE SAW BLADE IS ALSO TOPS. IN A SHOP SITUATION YOU MAY WANT ONE SAW FOR ROUGH LUMBER AND ANOTHER FOR FINISH WORK.

Makita LS1013F 10-inch Compound Sliding Miter Saw Review

Makita LS1013F 10-inch Compound Sliding Miter Saw Review

497 days ago by Tim from Iowa City | 8 comments »

Introduction – Over the last 14+ years, I’ve been using a 10-inch Craftsman Compound Miter Saw. It has served me well. In conjunction with the Craftsman Miter Saw, I had purchased a used Craftsman Radial Arm Saw. Unfortunately the Radial Arm saw had a wobble to it. It was not very accurate. I am guessing the previous owner damaged the saw mechanics. Since that time the sliding miter saw has emerged as a viable tool to replace the regular miter saw and the radial arm saw. With limited w...

Hitachi C12LSH sliding compound saw - A tale of woes

Hitachi C12LSH sliding compound saw - A tale of woes

217 days ago by WhittleMeThis | 7 comments »

I was shopping for a new Sliding Compound Miter Saw and looked at all the offerings from the major tool manufacturers. I came across the Hitachi 12” sliding compound saw and, being somewhat of a gadget person, I found the digital miter gauge and the laser guide compelling features along with the short  rear footprint requirement (sliding saws are notorious for requiring a huge amount of space behind the saw for slide travel). Having my interest peaked I read some reviews from a few of ...
