Cut calculator for ipad

Cut calculator for ipad

I’ve been using this app on my ipad for a few weeks now so I guess I can review it. In a nutshell, it works as advertised. It’s pretty simple and fairly straightforward to use. You enter the X/Y dimensions for each piece of wood in your project, the dimensions of the wood you will cut from, and your saw kerf width. It lays out your pieces to be cut over the stock so you can visually estimate your materials. You have limited controls available, you can lay out the grain direction v...

Woodworking APP

Woodworking APP

In working with a friend I located a great app to determine the cuts on a project and the amount of board or panels required. It is called Cut Calculator and costs 4.99 in the Apple APP store. I bought it for use with my iPad. To determine the amount of lumber required you simply input the length of the cuts in feet, inches or cm. Then you add the number of this length you will need with a slide scale. Down side is you can only enter 20 at a time. If you need more then you have to ent...

6 inch Digital Calipers with Fractional Inches

6 inch Digital Calipers with Fractional Inches

291 days ago by Purrmaster | 13 comments »

This review is for item number 68304. Don’t get this confused with item 47257 which looks similar. That one displays standard and metric in decimal only. It’s a pretty simple tool so there isn’t a lot to say. I’ve been using it for a while and it works. The display is easy to read. It can display millimeters and inches in both fractional and decimal formats. I’ve tested it against objects of known size and the readings always came out correctly. I got m...

Nifty, useful measuring tool

Nifty, useful measuring tool

299 days ago by CharlesA | 0 comments »

Got an email about the rule stop and decided to take chance on it. I thought the price was a bit high, but the ability to use my existing rulers of different lengths was a real plus. It ways that the Rule-Stop-1 is for rulers up to 1” wide, but it appears to me like it would work for up to 1.5” wide. http://www.woodpeck.com/rulestop1.html My thoughts:1) It is really handy for repeated measurements or just to precisely set a stop and them mark using the end of the ruler. ...

Great budget square - worth 5 stars at the price

Great budget square - worth 5 stars at the price

339 days ago by paxorion | 5 comments »

For the past few months, I have been looking for a replacement to an inexpensive contractor’s combination square (a freebie I got from my in-law’s hardware store during a trip many years ago). I had the opportunity to use a Starrett at my guild shop, and convinced myself I needed a replacement. To ensure I could focus my search, I came up with 4 criteria: – A solid cast head – Etched measurements that go up to at least 1/64 intervals – A more palatable price...

Does not do its only job!

Does not do its only job!

434 days ago by Cole Tallerman | 45 comments »

So let me start off by saying I was really excited to get this on sale for $20. I had been wanting the wixey but no local stores had it so it would have been $35+shipping. Out of the box this thing feels really good. Its nice and heavy, and it feels of good quality. I popped it out and turned it on. I set it on the Cast iron of the table saw a few inches from the blade, hit the “calibrate” button and placed it on the blade. I was really impressed on how the measurement changed as ...

Never thought I would write this...

but I have to sing the praises of the Oneway Multi Gauge. I bought a Jet JJ-6CSX about a year ago off craigslist. I brought it home, and did a complete disassembly/cleaning/waxing. Everything went well until I tried to set blades and get this thing to cut. A lot of good LJ’s tried to help me last year and I thought I was ok. I tried it again after winter hibernation and my jointer cut was significantly out of straight. I had tried every method I could find on das Internets to no a...

Harbor Freight Dial Indicator with flex mount

Harbor Freight Dial Indicator with flex mount

471 days ago by dschlic1 | 1 comment »

I purchased this dial indicator to align my table saw. I choose this unit because, rather then getting a magnetic base, this unit uses a vise grip type pliers and a flexible shaft. The flexible shaft consists of a series of tubes and round rings. Inside the tubes and rings is a steel cable. On one end of the shaft is a mounting clamp for the dial indicator, and also a screw adjustment to adjust the over all length of the shaft. On the other end is a boss that screws into the vise grip pliers a...

Magnogrip Quick Snap Magnetic Tape Measure Holder...Redesign is MUCH BETTER !!!

If you read my first review I was much under-impressed with the actual design of the belt clip.Magnogrip corporation responded to my complaint and shipped me a redesigned belt clip.I put it on my jeans workbelt that afternoon and was impressed with its tenacity…I actually COULDN’T get the clip off without taking the belt off. Today I wore it most of the day in the shop and around the house even though I didn’t do any real measuring just to get a feel for it. The clip is P...
