Woodworking Magazine Survey

Woodworking Magazine Survey

Okay LJ’s – time to weigh in. . . I’ve searched around and can’t seem to find a survey/side-by-side comparison of the various woodworking magazines. I’m thinking about taking out my first subscription and find myself wondering, “So, what’s unique about “this” publication vs. “that” publication. I was wondering if those of you who have experience across a wide spectrum of woodworking magazines could describe how they stack ...

I suspect I’m like most LJ’s on here and love to read anything about woodworking. Blondie recently had asked my what I would like for my Birthday, not really needing anything I said these books would be great. I have been receiving the magazine for just over a year now. This is 4 years worth of magazine’s binded in separate one year hardcovers, @ $89.50 http://www.shopnotes.com/ I love this subscription, great pics and projects with plans. Very little advertising, w...

Fine Woodworking Online well worth the $5

Fine Woodworking Online well worth the $5

My money is hard to come by and harder to justify spending. So when I do indulge in a woodworking subscription I demand a great deal of bang for my buck. Well, let me tell you, five bucks never went so far! I subscribe to Fine Woodworking’s online content, and it’s a five star find in my book. First of all, you get to read the magazine as soon as the newest issues come out. That means you don’t have to buy the regular mail subscription. I know, I also like the paper issue so I can read it ...

Why I Will Not Do Business With Taunton Ever Again

Why I Will Not Do Business With Taunton Ever Again

Here’s my experience-I’ll let everyone draw their own conclusions.I was a Fine Woodworking Magazine subscriber for 15yrs from 1995-2009, and enjoyed many of the issues in the earlier years. As my experience in woodworking grew, I found the quality of the articles, projects, advice, etc. in the magazine going downhill-particularly from 2006 onward. Purchased the DVD of all issues in 2010 and still refer to the earlier articles as they have challenging products, excellent advice, an...

I don’t know about you, but I have wood working magazine addiction. You could say that I am a Hoarder. Woodsmith, Shop Notes, Fine Woodworking, Wood, Etc. I always found myself remembering an article, but not remembering where to find it. So probably like everyone else, I started tagging and making notes, using annual table of contents, etc. But always seemed to take more time than what I wanted to spend, looking for the article and or information. But then, along comes Fine Wo...

Are there no women?

Are there no women?

I just received my June issue of Popular Woodworking. I have come to enjoy this magazine, propelled by Schwartz, Lang, and Huey. But I have to wonder if a bad case of the dumb ass hasn’t overtaken the editorial staff. Consider the story, “The 130 Best Books on Woodworking”. It looks like a lot of care and effort went in to compiling a list of books the staff could agree on. But then they upped the ante by going to the field, to the annointed experts for their personal favori...

I currently subscribe to Woodsmith eTips and enjoy receiving their video tips and read tips. I’ve come across several over the past couple of years that have helped me in my shop and today’s tips included a simple low cost Moxon style vise that I think several of you may want to build. http://www.woodsmithtips.com/2012/10/25/easy-to-build-vise/ If you haven’t already, I encourage you to subscribe as well Thanks Woodsmith! Very nice Magazine

Very nice Magazine

A friend of mine recently gifted me with a subscription to Woodsmith Magazine, a publication of August Home Publishing. I have leafed through a number of woodworking type publications over the last couple years (in fact I am a subscriber to Wood Magazine) and have often been left unimpressed with the quality of the material contained within. There are quite a few niceties that this particular publication has that many do not. I will list some of the positives that most impressed me. 1. The...

Hey guys, I am brand new here so I am not sure if I posted this in the right spot but I figured because there was an ability to review a magazine that this may suffice. I don’t have much to say about it except that I just picked it up off a store shelf today and it is absolutely fantastic! It goes over how to make many different styles of bookcases, tables, chairs, cabinets, chests, bureaus, beds and sideboards. It assist with creating your own design by providing assistance with...
