I currently subscribe to Woodsmith eTips and enjoy receiving their video tips and read tips. I’ve come across several over the past couple of years that have helped me in my shop and today’s tips included a simple low cost Moxon style vise that I think several of you may want to build. http://www.woodsmithtips.com/2012/10/25/easy-to-build-vise/ If you haven’t already, I encourage you to subscribe as well Thanks Woodsmith! I’ve been honored recently to be included in a new online column for American Craft Magazine:http://americancraftmag.org/search.php?tag=134 They are accepting column submissions from any writer/crafter on the subject of ‘Why I Make,’ so anyone interested can write up a short piece and submit it for consideration. It’s great to have a magazine that supports and promotes American crafts as this one does. If you are so inclined, polish up your best work and put it o...

Why I Will Not Do Business With Taunton Ever Again

Why I Will Not Do Business With Taunton Ever Again

Here’s my experience-I’ll let everyone draw their own conclusions.I was a Fine Woodworking Magazine subscriber for 15yrs from 1995-2009, and enjoyed many of the issues in the earlier years. As my experience in woodworking grew, I found the quality of the articles, projects, advice, etc. in the magazine going downhill-particularly from 2006 onward. Purchased the DVD of all issues in 2010 and still refer to the earlier articles as they have challenging products, excellent advice, an...

(photo from www.canadianwoodworking.com) I always look forward to receiving my next issue of the Canadian Woodworking magazine. Each issue is filled with: several projects to complete, lots of tips skill building variety of furniture building, carving, and other woodworking techniques I think that that is my best part, that they mix the types of woodworking and do not just focus on furniture building. They also, in my opinion, cater to the skilled woodworker as well as the...

The September 2008 special issue of Wood magazine, titled “Best-Ever Router Tips, Tricks and Jigs” is an A-to-Z guide to using routers more effectively. Very nice Magazine

A friend of mine recently gifted me with a subscription to Woodsmith Magazine, a publication of August Home Publishing. I have leafed through a number of woodworking type publications over the last couple years (in fact I am a subscriber to Wood Magazine) and have often been left unimpressed with the quality of the material contained within. There are quite a few niceties that this particular publication has that many do not. I will list some of the positives that most impressed me. 1. The...

Fine Woodworking Online well worth the $5

Fine Woodworking Online well worth the $5

My money is hard to come by and harder to justify spending. So when I do indulge in a woodworking subscription I demand a great deal of bang for my buck. Well, let me tell you, five bucks never went so far! I subscribe to Fine Woodworking’s online content, and it’s a five star find in my book. First of all, you get to read the magazine as soon as the newest issues come out. That means you don’t have to buy the regular mail subscription. I know, I also like the paper issue so I can read it ...
