I have had and used this very much and so far i am satasfied with it but the switch that comes with it broke so i just wired a light switch to it. the bed is made of square steel tubing and seems to have a decent but tolerable amount of vibration. only one compliant and that is when you tighten the tailstock the headstock will bend upwards

Gunhead CnC 7x lathe.

Gunhead CnC 7x lathe.

I found this cnc lathe from Gunhead. http://gunhead.com/GMW/index.html I’m a small parts builder/hobbyist, and originally I was using a Sherline, but found it to be a bit inadequate. There just wasn’t a small lathe that was tough enough to do what I needed in steel, aluminum and various woods. That is what I thought until I found the Gunhead 7x lathe. I bought it,abused it and it does the job. It’s made of steel and iron, unlike it’s aluminum rivals. Best tool I ever...

RIKON Customer Service - Thumbs Up

RIKON Customer Service - Thumbs Up

03-31-2010 03:38 PM by DaveMiller | 11 comments »

I have owned a RIKON Mini Lathe for about 3 years and have never had one problem with it. Through misuse/abuse on my part, a couple of parts needed to be replaced. I called RIKON customer service and was greeted very professionally by Dan. I told him I needed to order a few parts and he offerred to transfer me to the parts department which he did. After just a few seconds, Dan came back on and told me that all the parts guys were on the phone and he offerred to take my order. He was able...

Oneway spindle steady

Oneway spindle steady

When you need one, you might as well get one. This is a real good one. I unpacked it, assembled onto a spindle I was working on, then read the directions. I had it right, it does just what I expected without any troubles. It holds it steady when turning, and any further shaping I did after the turning. No money wasted on this one. The big mistake I made was just getting the spindle steady, they make a bowl steady that you can attach the spindle jaws to. I don’t think I can go the other ...

Lathe upgrade

Lathe upgrade

02-16-2010 05:43 PM by Jarrhead | 7 comments »

I recently decided to upgrade my lathe from the Delta midi-lathe I began turning on. I spent a lot of time researching which lathes were available on the market. Some of the most helpful information was found right here on Lumberjocks.com. Thank you to all who took the time to share your viewpoints and experiences. It made my decision easier. I settled on the Nova DVR XP, but I must say that it was not my first choice. My first choice was the Powermatic 3520B. I had to make some compro...

Great Lathe for the money

Great Lathe for the money

A review of the Grizzly G0462 lathe was provided to this website about 10 months ago. I am sure that the author provided an honest assessment of his experiences with this lathe. However, my experiences have been different and I am providing a review based on my experiences with the same lathe. If you simply review the specifications and features, I think anyone would agree that this is a lot of lathe for the money. I paid $475 for this lathe and, at the time, Grizzly was offering fr...

Delta 46-460 12-1/2" Variable-Speed Lathe and Optional Stand

Delta 46-460 12-1/2" Variable-Speed Lathe and Optional Stand

I purchased this lathe two weeks ago when it was on sale at Woodcraft. I brought it home, opened it up, and set it up. It took about an hour to completely set it up. The lathe stands level and true, and the tail stock/head stock are perfectly aligned. It is a variable speed, but some belt changes are needed for different speed “ranges.” It is a cinch to change the belt. Picture #2 shows how you pull a lever, change the belt, re-tighten the lever, and off you go. It is a...

Powermatic 3520b, superstar

Powermatic 3520b, superstar

I’ve had my Powermatic for almost a year now, and I have used it a LOT. It runs true and smooth. The lathe was perfectly level/square right out of the box. I have had NO problems with this lathe. It is quiet, powerful and it feels good to be at. It makes you comfortable knowing that you will be able to do what you want to do. At first, being a new turner, it intimidated me a little, but now, we are best friends. I would not hesitate to recommend this lathe to anyone.

PSI Variable Speed Midi Lathe Conversion Kit

PSI Variable Speed Midi Lathe Conversion Kit

10-14-2009 08:27 PM by Chris Wright | 3 comments »

Here at the arts and Crafts Center we’ve been doing a lot of turning classes (mostly pen, but also the occasional bowl or bottle stopper) in conjunction with the Wounded Warrior program at Walter Reed and with the help of the local chapters of the American Association of Woodturners. Through them we’ve been able to have donated or loaned to the shop, lathes, chisels, chucks and other supplies. One of the lathes that was donated to the program was a Fisch Midi Lathe (essentially ...
