Steel City 6" Industrial Parallelogram Jointer

Steel City 6" Industrial Parallelogram Jointer

1885 days ago by Greg3G | 16 comments »

I purchased this at the March Woodworking Show in Chantilly, VA. I had been looking for a jointer for some time. At one point this was listed for $999 but since they have decided to drop this from their line, I picked it up for $499 with an extra set of knives thrown in the deal. The equipment was picked up at the show (Skarie was the distributer) and came in two boxes. One is the cabinet the other the jointer bed assembly. The boxes showed no damage so I felt fairly certain that everythin...

Delta 6in Jointer with Stand (Shopmaster)

Delta 6in Jointer with Stand (Shopmaster)

To begin this review I have to add that this is my first jointer ever. I’ve never used one before so all of my comments are based on being a novice. Also, one peculiar thing is that this jointer is not advertised on Delta’s website and other than seeing it in the Rockler advertisement I can’t find any proof of it’s existence;) The jointer is a 6 in model with a metal stand that needs to be assembled. The bed could be a bit longer but for me it works very well. S...

Satisfies expectations

Satisfies expectations

This machine satisfies expectations as long as you keep in mind it’s a 30” long, 60 lb. machine. So don’t go looking to joint 8 foot long boards as if it’s a 60” long, 300 lb. unit. But for drawer fronts and sides, home-made router table and cross cut sled fences, and the like, it’s great! Also expect, as I’ve seen in reviews of all sorts of jointers, to spend two hours carefully setting the infeed and outfeed tables to being coplanar, and getting ...

Decent benchtop jointer

Decent benchtop jointer

1169 days ago by Bryan_M | 22 comments »

I’ve been needed a jointer but I work out of my garage and don’t have anymore room for bigger tools. I read good reviews about other bench top jointers and read that Geetech actually manufactured most of them. I was unable to find any of the others (Craftsman, Sunhill, etc) and found that Woodworkers supply has these Geetech jointers in stock. I think I paid around $150 after shipping. It was delivered quickly and packaged very nicely in thick foam. It is a little heavy to ...

Outstanding Jointer

Outstanding Jointer

Got this last week. Arrived in perfect condition, the base in its own box and the upper part in a birch plywood crate. No issues at all with assembly. Used the recommended plug and fired it up. Had to call to find out what the belt deflection was supposed to be cause the manual was a bit older. This thing is a beast. My first use of the machine resulted in a rather pleasant result. I face jointed/planed a 8” wide board of ash which was not flat at all. I fed it through the helical cutter...

Review of Grizzly 12" Jointer G609X With Sprial Cutter Head (Grizzly)

Review of Grizzly 12" Jointer G609X With Sprial Cutter Head (Grizzly)

The big machine was unloaded with a fork lift using straps under the beds. Grease was present mainly on the beds and fence and was removed with a single edge razor blade and WD-40. It was moved to position using ½” water pipe and two people. I have since built a rollerbase which is pictured; and also added a Wixley digital planer height gauge to it which is also pictured. Out of the box it required a little tweaking of the tables. The outfeed was a few thousandths out of level with the c...

Bear of a jointer with grizzly sharp teeth!

Bear of a jointer with grizzly sharp teeth!

I am mainly a cane maker so my wood working techniques or needs don’t require the same as that of a cabinet or furniture maker, but since I do use a LOT of very hard woods (Afromosia, Bloodwood, Cocobolo, Ebony, Jatoba, Osage Orange, Macadamia, Macawood, Padauk, Pink Ivory, Rosewood, Ziricote, etc.). I needed a quality jointer and wanted one with the cutting ability to get a nice smooth surface on these woods, especially the figured ones for my cane work and future furniture projects. ...

Great little Jointer

I decided last night that I could not live without a jointer for a gate project I am working on but did not want to spend the money on a larger jointer as my wife just started her own business last year so I did some searching and came across this little guy on sale at sears. Regularly $209 but on sale online for $169.57 right now. got it home and set up was a breeze. It was also easy to get the granite fences nice and true.Within about 45 minutes I was jointing boards and so far it works ...

Grizzly 16” G0660X Jointer / Planer Combo

Grizzly 16” G0660X Jointer / Planer Combo

22 days ago by Grovest | 9 comments »

I had difficulty assessing the relative performance of this machine since the machines I have the most experience with are not in the same class (bench-top versus floor machines). The only J/P that I have any hands on experience with has been the Jet JJP-12 and that was limited to a hand on dealer demonstration. The only full size machines I’ve used were those I used nearly 40 years ago in high school and a friend’s old Delta cast iron monsters. Thoughts regarding how this machine compares to...

Baileigh Jointer/Planer Review

Baileigh Jointer/Planer Review

17 days ago by Tsmutz | 10 comments »

Hi guys. I recently bought a Baileigh JP-1686. Since they’re pretty new to the woodworking market, I thought I’d give you a review of this jointer/planer combo machine. For context, I build furniture professionally in Southern California. Most of my work involves wood and metal so my shop is a mix of woodworking and metalworking machines. The Baileigh JP-1686 stood out to me for a couple reasons: my shop is modestly sized so the jointer/planer combo takes up less real estate than 2 separat...
