Grizlly G0656X 8” Jointer with Spiral Cutterhead

Grizlly G0656X 8” Jointer with Spiral Cutterhead

12-27-2013 03:41 PM by woodmaker | 10 comments »

Well, my lovely wife presented me an early Xmas present in November so I could Umm, make Xmas presents. so I ordered the Grizlly G0656X 8” Jointer with Spiral Cutterhead. I made a bunch of cutting boards so I ran a lot of walnut, Cherry and Maple through this jointer and it never missed a beat. I’m not going through all the hoopla of shipping/receiving and uncrating except to say it takes two to get that aircraft carrier of a cutter up on the stand. This beast weighs in at 600 pou...

Grizzly H7653. The Best Tool Upgrade You'll Ever Make!

Grizzly H7653. The Best Tool Upgrade You'll Ever Make!

I picked up a Jet-JJCSX off Craigslist a few weeks ago and it was in great shape, except for the blades. They were completely destroyed and it looked as though the previous owner jointed a board full of wood screws. Anyway, after looking costs of the various blades and comparing HSS vs carbide vs how frequently they would have to be changed (which is not a pleasant undertaking) I started looking at the spiral cutter heads on the market and decided to go with the Grizzly for a number of rea...

Jointer-Planer Heaven

Jointer-Planer Heaven

Or at least that was what I went looking for when I bought an FS-30 jointer-planer in early 2011. This review is after about eighteen months of use. Purchase: there was a chance to buy one at a good price in early 2011, so I went after it and placed an order in March. The machine arrived in good shape in late July. I didn’t expect that long of a delay, but wasn’t really bothered by that. The machine came very well packaged with lots of cardboard on a pallet. There was some d...

Review help needed !

Review help needed !

We are interested in demonstrating, and letting folks use a new mortise and dowel hole jig, for response and interest to help with how well it will be received in the market place, within 300 miles of Austin / San Antonio TX, or more if necessary ?? Anyone interested ? There are no wood shows to go to, to demonstrate this jig, so we are looking for individuals, a wood working club, or group of woodworkers to demonstrate it to, and let them use, for feed back. No cost or obligation. If you ...

Jet Jointer early christmas gift

Jet Jointer early christmas gift

My wife got me the jointer for christmas and ask is this the last machine I need for my shop. I said yes. (LOL) We all know that we never have enough. The jointer was package well and it took less than an hour to assemble, clean and set the outfeed and infeed tables. The jointer ran smooth with no excessive vibration. The motor needed no adjustment for the belt. The fence was easy to set square and has a stop to set it at 90 and keep it there. My trial cuts came out as smooth as glass. I ran ...

Shelix cutterhead for jointer

Shelix cutterhead for jointer

09-25-2009 09:58 AM by Jim | 9 comments »

I’ve had my Grizzly 8” G0490 jointer for about 5 years. I’ve been very happy with this jointer. I wouldn’t hesitate to buy this same jointer again. About 2 yrs ago I decided to modify it by replacing the cutterhead with a Shelix head. I was working with some highly figured koa and wanted to maximize the utilization of this expensive wood as much as possible by not losing any to tearout. Many people want to know if the helical heads are worth the money. Short answer...

Just what I wanted

Just what I wanted

I purchased this 5/25/12 and picked it up from the UPS freight terminal on 6/1/12. I paid the extra thirty something dollars for liftgate delivery to my home, but UPS contacted me and said they wouldn’t be able to deliver it from their terminal to my house for almost an additional week and I didn’t want to wait. I had no trouble getting it home using my dad’s F150. The UPS guys put it on a pallet and loaded it for me with their forklift. It took three 200+ pound men to u...

MLCS Jointer knife setter - easy cheezy

I didn’t really want to spend $80 on this but I did it anyway.List Price: $89.95 Price: $70.69 http://www.amazon.com/MLCS-9397-Jointer-Planer-Setting/dp/B001NXC6YQ NOTE: The way the jigs are setup in the picture above is incorrect! The magnets register directly onto the cutter head; they never attach to the table surface! The reviews were pretty bad, actually, but it works as advertised. It’s made of some heavy duty type plastic with really hard-tugging rare Earth magnets. T...

Inca Model 570 Jointer/Planer

Inca Model 570 Jointer/Planer

I ended up getting an Inca model 570 (343.190.03) in reasonable condition. This is a machine that hasn’t been made in over a decade, and so if you buy one it will be well used. Even so, working units are worth buying. The design and execution of Inca machines is a pinnacle of modern industrial design, and there are a lot of people that feel about their Inca gear the way Apple fans feel about their electronic goodies. The design of the Inca J/P goes in the opposite direction from...

Good Quality Jointer/Planer Blades

Good Quality Jointer/Planer Blades

03-08-2008 04:32 PM by tenontim | 8 comments »

I use my planer and jointer constantly and I try to keep a sharp set of blades in each one. A couple of years ago I found Global Tooling, http://globaltooling.bizhosting.com/index.html on the internet, and couldn’t believe the prices they got for their blades. I thought that even if they were just throw aways, it would be worth the test run. “Knives are made from T1-High Speed Steel (18% Tungsten steel), 63 Rc hardened and finish ground to super sharp edge. Also offered Carbide ...
