Solid jointer

I lucked into the closeout deal at Woodcraft where it was being sold for $150. Shipping was $75. As I live in an apartment in NYC, I had it delivered to my sister’s house as she has both a garage and an SUV I could borrow to get it to my shop which is in Pennsylvania. It was shipped the same day and it arrived in three business days. I was concerned about how I would get it out of the truck, but the shipper had a liftgate and it was no problem. The best news was that it fit in my car: ...

Used Jet JJ-6CS jointer, seems to be a bargain

Used Jet JJ-6CS jointer, seems to be a bargain

I picked this up from a Craigslist ad recently for $200. SCORE!! I wanted the CSX with 1 hp motor, but this one will do. And with this being about half the going price for a newer CSX, I can put that money towards some chisels or a shoulder plane. Looks like it’s seen some action, I had to clean a bunch of surface rust from the fence and tables. A thorough cleaning did wonders, and now I need to pull the knives and get them sharpened. Everything seems to work fine, even the bearings are...

Grizlly G0656X 8” Jointer with Spiral Cutterhead

Grizlly G0656X 8” Jointer with Spiral Cutterhead

Well, my lovely wife presented me an early Xmas present in November so I could Umm, make Xmas presents. so I ordered the Grizlly G0656X 8” Jointer with Spiral Cutterhead. I made a bunch of cutting boards so I ran a lot of walnut, Cherry and Maple through this jointer and it never missed a beat. I’m not going through all the hoopla of shipping/receiving and uncrating except to say it takes two to get that aircraft carrier of a cutter up on the stand. This beast weighs in at 600 pou...

Grizzly H7653. The Best Tool Upgrade You'll Ever Make!

Grizzly H7653. The Best Tool Upgrade You'll Ever Make!

I picked up a Jet-JJCSX off Craigslist a few weeks ago and it was in great shape, except for the blades. They were completely destroyed and it looked as though the previous owner jointed a board full of wood screws. Anyway, after looking costs of the various blades and comparing HSS vs carbide vs how frequently they would have to be changed (which is not a pleasant undertaking) I started looking at the spiral cutter heads on the market and decided to go with the Grizzly for a number of rea...

Jointer-Planer Heaven

Jointer-Planer Heaven

Or at least that was what I went looking for when I bought an FS-30 jointer-planer in early 2011. This review is after about eighteen months of use. Purchase: there was a chance to buy one at a good price in early 2011, so I went after it and placed an order in March. The machine arrived in good shape in late July. I didn’t expect that long of a delay, but wasn’t really bothered by that. The machine came very well packaged with lots of cardboard on a pallet. There was some d...

Baileigh Jointer/Planer Review

Baileigh Jointer/Planer Review

Hi guys. I recently bought a Baileigh JP-1686. Since they’re pretty new to the woodworking market, I thought I’d give you a review of this jointer/planer combo machine. For context, I build furniture professionally in Southern California. Most of my work involves wood and metal so my shop is a mix of woodworking and metalworking machines. The Baileigh JP-1686 stood out to me for a couple reasons: my shop is modestly sized so the jointer/planer combo takes up less real estate than 2 separat...

Jet Jointer early christmas gift

Jet Jointer early christmas gift

My wife got me the jointer for christmas and ask is this the last machine I need for my shop. I said yes. (LOL) We all know that we never have enough. The jointer was package well and it took less than an hour to assemble, clean and set the outfeed and infeed tables. The jointer ran smooth with no excessive vibration. The motor needed no adjustment for the belt. The fence was easy to set square and has a stop to set it at 90 and keep it there. My trial cuts came out as smooth as glass. I ran ...

Shelix cutterhead for jointer

Shelix cutterhead for jointer

09-25-2009 09:58 AM by Jim | 9 comments »

I’ve had my Grizzly 8” G0490 jointer for about 5 years. I’ve been very happy with this jointer. I wouldn’t hesitate to buy this same jointer again. About 2 yrs ago I decided to modify it by replacing the cutterhead with a Shelix head. I was working with some highly figured koa and wanted to maximize the utilization of this expensive wood as much as possible by not losing any to tearout. Many people want to know if the helical heads are worth the money. Short answer...

Just what I wanted

Just what I wanted

I purchased this 5/25/12 and picked it up from the UPS freight terminal on 6/1/12. I paid the extra thirty something dollars for liftgate delivery to my home, but UPS contacted me and said they wouldn’t be able to deliver it from their terminal to my house for almost an additional week and I didn’t want to wait. I had no trouble getting it home using my dad’s F150. The UPS guys put it on a pallet and loaded it for me with their forklift. It took three 200+ pound men to u...

Review of Grizzly 12" Jointer G609X With Sprial Cutter Head (Grizzly)

Review of Grizzly 12" Jointer G609X With Sprial Cutter Head (Grizzly)

The big machine was unloaded with a fork lift using straps under the beds. Grease was present mainly on the beds and fence and was removed with a single edge razor blade and WD-40. It was moved to position using ½” water pipe and two people. I have since built a rollerbase which is pictured; and also added a Wixley digital planer height gauge to it which is also pictured. Out of the box it required a little tweaking of the tables. The outfeed was a few thousandths out of level with the c...
