JET JJP-12HH, 2-month review

JET JJP-12HH, 2-month review

852 days ago by mstenner | 16 comments »

After two months with the JJP-12HH, I’m ready to share what I’ve learned. The bottom line: this is a great tool and I’d recommend it for the serious amateur. I wanted a lot of capability in my small (12×15) shop and am very happy. Shipping & Unpacking This is a large and heavy tool (my wife says I’m no longer the “biggest tool in the shop”), and it comes almost fully assembled. You will need to get the crate where it’s going intact. ...

Great jointer for a great deal

Great jointer for a great deal

I picked one of these guys up second hand about 6 months ago and haven’t regretted it. It was already assembled, so I can’t speak to that aspect of it. Aside from having a little rust on the bed from sitting in a storage shed, it was in great shape. I’ve used it on a few projects and it’s always done everything I need it to do. I typically do not use a DC with it just because the area in my garage where it’s located is too far away. It does tend to fill up w...

6" Benchtop Jointer

6" Benchtop Jointer

1596 days ago by rwyoung | 15 comments »

I decided that I would like to have a 6” jointer for my garage shop. The combination of limited working space and the size of my expected projects pointed me to a benchtop jointer. Depending on what review you read, most of the models in this class are limited to 3 ft or 4 ft workpieces. That length limitation was not an issue for me as most of my projects in the queue are cabinets and small furniture. I received the unit in good order and the packaging was quite well done with tw...

I picked up this jointer earlier this week off of an add that I saw on Craigs List. It is only a couple of years old and I bought it for only $125.00. I haven’t had much time to work with it and it is my first power jointer, but so far I am very pleased with it. The adjustments are pretty simple and easy to figure out (I have the manual, but haven’t even looked at it yet). I took a piece of wood that I had salvaged from a pallet and jointed one side and then squared an adjacen...

Grizzly G0656 8" JOINTER 3HP W/ MOBILE BASE

Grizzly G0656 8" JOINTER 3HP W/ MOBILE BASE

Just finished assembly and initial testing of my new jointer. My initial reaction is very positive. All parts required for assembly were present and accounted for and nothing was damaged. The assembly took about 4 hours. I just followed the instructions included and everything went together and the fit was good. Overall quality is good. The in feed and out feed tables are flat and aligned as well as the fence. Test cuts were good. I looked at Jet, Delta and Powermatic before ordering ...

Rikon 6" Jointer-Good buy if you can get it for the same price.

Rikon 6" Jointer-Good buy if you can get it for the same price.

After debating for a while on which jointer to get, I decided on this Rikon. This is the first jointer I have owned so I don’t have any other to compare but it is well built compared to the others I have used. When I bought it, Woodcraft had it on clearance for $299, the regular price was $450, I couldn’t pass it up. It comes in 2 separate boxes, base/motor in one and the table/fence in the other, the total shipping weight was around 280 lb’s. The motor comes premounte...

I like it but need to learn its quirks.

This review is very long and specific. If you’re in a hurry I suggest reading the cons for both the planer and jointer, the finish quality cheat sheet, and the verdict and coming back to the review later. The first thing I did was put it on the HTC3000 mobile base. The base fits as well as I expected but could use better wheel bearings as this thing is extremely heavy. My 135 lb. self can move it on my own with some hard pushing though. After I got off all the shipping grease I c...

Super Value

Super Value

This is a long review but, I hope it will be useful to someone considering this jointer. I purchased this jointer a few weeks ago and wanted to put it through it’s paces before reviewing it. This is an excellent machine and is one of my favorite tools in my shop. I spent a few months contemplating whether or not I even needed a jointer. After reading page after page of online forums I decided to go ahead and pull the trigger. I came really close to purchasing an 8 inch jointer ...

Grizzly 6” Jointer G0452. Cons: As you can see in the photo, arrived damaged. The base is what was in that box, and the main damage was to the rear cover, (dented and scratched). In the main box with the head in it, the fence support was not packed well, and rolled around in the box, dinging everything, including minor scratches to the tabletop. In the base box, nothing was packed well, and everything else was dinged. The picture of the head is showing the caked axle grease that ge...

One square, two square...

One square, two square...

1909 days ago by Bill Butler | 13 comments »

...on your way to four-square, this jointer just can’t be beat. I wasn’t looking for high end professional quality in a jointer, and I wanted something more than a benchtop unit. I came across this jointer available at your local HD for $399. I decided to buy it based on the predominance of 4 and 5 star reviews at their site. The unit is easy to assemble, however you should definitely have two bodies to handle delivery, and physical assembly. (I can pickup my DeWalt 735 p...
