POWERMATIC PM 54HH ONYX JOINTER - POOR QUALITY, VERY DISAPPOINTED

POWERMATIC PM 54HH ONYX JOINTER - POOR QUALITY, VERY DISAPPOINTED

189 days ago by Furry Tude! | 57 comments »

There’s a poor quality video (shot with my iPad in low-light) of the jointer here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cxtcw_xX874&feature=youtube_gdata_player This is my first powermatic tool, and I’m very, very disappointed. For frame of reference, the other main woodworking tools I have in my shop are (1) Sawstop Professional TS, (2) An American-made Delta bandsaw (probably early-mid eighties), and Rockler wall-mount dust collector. I also have the Incra TS-LS Supersystem ...

My Nightmare with Laguan Tools

My Nightmare with Laguan Tools

1126 days ago by Caleb James | 39 comments »

I recently purchased a 16” jointer planer combo and 18” 3000 Series Bandsaw from Laguna Tools. It has turned into my worst nightmare. I have spent $6,245.83 on this order. It arrived damaged and I properly noted it on the freight bill. I contacted laguna about the most obvious damage to the band saw. The upper flywheel had come apart in shipping. I rebuilt it and it seems to work fine now. My nightmare starts really with the jointer. In short this machine should edge join using the fence, ...

Ridgid JP0610 Jointer/Planer

Ridgid JP0610 Jointer/Planer

1710 days ago by ferstler | 35 comments »

OK, before I purchased the JP0610 I owned a 30-inch Delta JT160 tabletop jointer/planer. (Shown to the right in the wider-angle photo.) I still have the thing and now store it on a shelf where it can be quickly hauled out onto my shop’s workdeck for rough-and-tumble work that does not involve longer boards. The 45-inch-bed Ridgid JP unit has replaced it as a precision tool (some have complained of table alignment problems, but mine seems perfect in that respect), and of course the ne...

Grizzly G0593 8" Jointer with Spiral Cutter-head

Grizzly G0593 8" Jointer with Spiral Cutter-head

This review is going to be a little different. (I am in a good mood)I decided that after years of doing it by hand, that it was time to buy a good jointer. As I have stated before, I am a little obsessive when it comes to buying a high priced tool. If it is something I can lay my hands on and look at, I usually have no problem just pulling the trigger and buying it. But when it comes to ordering a tool I have never seen/touched or used, and then giving the lady/man on the other end of the pho...

Good Jointer for the Price

Good Jointer for the Price

I needed to upgrade from by benchtop jointer to a stationary unit so I purchased this jointer last week at my local Harbor Freight. I have had some good luck with their power tools and read some good reviews about this specific jointer. The setup took some work due to the terrible owners manual that comes in the box…it has about 6 random pictures along with a few pages of text only instructions. I had to change a few pieces around as I went but managed to get it assembled in a couple ho...

Nice Jointer, But Keep Dreaming.....

Well, I ordered my Steel City 8” Granite Deluxe Jointer with Helical Head back in the beginning of August… The guy a the shop I deal with said it would be a 3-4 week wait to get one, well.. 3-4 weeks later.. still didnt’ have it.. then it was two weeks, then two more weeks, then it’s on the boat, should be another two weeks, well.. it’s been 3 months since I ordered it, checked back in, and final answer, there should be one at the tool show, and you can have that...

Great little Jointer

Great little Jointer

I decided last night that I could not live without a jointer for a gate project I am working on but did not want to spend the money on a larger jointer as my wife just started her own business last year so I did some searching and came across this little guy on sale at sears. Regularly $209 but on sale online for $169.57 right now. got it home and set up was a breeze. It was also easy to get the granite fences nice and true.Within about 45 minutes I was jointing boards and so far it works ...

Poor quality and even worse costomer service

Poor quality and even worse costomer service

Got this unit home and uncrated after it took 3 weeks to get from Laguna. When I ordered it the unit was on the floor ready to ship and when it was all said and done it hadn’t cleared customs yet. First thing that I noticed is that the plug on the end of the power cord was only rated for 15 amps. This unit has a 4hp motor so I thought that was underrated. It didn’t matter to me though I had already planned to cut the end off and put one on that matched my set-up with locking plugs. It ...

8 x 72 3HP Jointer from Santa

8 x 72 3HP Jointer from Santa

Santa ( aka Blondie ) was good to me again this year. I have been using a Delta 6 inch Table Top Jointer for yrs. As most of you know that can be a challenge when doing 8 foot boards. After a lot of research we decided on this one with the normal cutter head. Cpl buddies say the Helix can leave lines in the wood. Think this might be myth truthfully, however I can always up grade later if I feel I need to. I have been using the blade method for ever and it has worked fine for me. I thought ...

Yes I bought one of these, yes I actually like it - go ahead and start laughing

First off, writing this review to me is like admitting in front of all my friends that I bought and really like the new Justin Bieber album. It’s a “piece of crap direct drive tiny useless toy”. I have actually said those words to other people considering this. So why did I get it? Well for one, I have grown to like handtools. I don’t have room for another giant (expensive) 220v power hungry piece of cast iron. I have a few planes including a stanley jointer and I a...
