Grizzly Branded Byrd Shelix Cutter Head for the G0452P

Grizzly Branded Byrd Shelix Cutter Head for the G0452P

I got some tiny nic’s in the blades on my Grizzly G0452 Jointer and figured with these being on sale (4/2016) at Grizzly, why not avoid the hassle of the getting new knives and having to get them set correctly and all that trouble again. It arrives packaged as seen, in great shape, and I’d be very impressed if the shippers were able to damage this in shipping. Installation was a little tough – pulling the bearings off the old jointer head required a pulley puller/extracto...

A nice tool (also sold under the Baileigh Industrial brand)

A nice tool (also sold under the Baileigh Industrial brand)

I was using a sled with my planer and the results were okay, but with large stock, it was too un-wieldly and dangerous, so when I received a nice bonus at work this past spring, I purchased this jointer. I would have preferred the 12”, but the bonus wasn’t that nice. I had to run 220v to the garage so that was almost an extra grand. I also had 20amp 110v line put in as the garage only had one 15amp outlet so I had been tapping into the garage door opener outlets as well. ...

New Jointer

New Jointer

Jointer was delivered into my garage 5 days after ordering. That included the weekend and 4th of July holiday. I did pay for the lift gate service. Packaging was very good and in great shape. Broke down easy for recycling. Assembly was very straight forward. I did start off using jacks and jack stands to get top close to installed height. Turned out to be waste of time. Friend and myself easily picked up the top to put on the stand. Table checks with a 3’ Starrett showed the ...

Craftsman jointer

I work at Sears and had walked by this jointer many times, noting its $229 price tag. I walked by it again the other day and saw that it was being closed out at a fraction of that price. I jumped. It had been on display for a good while. The blade guard had been broken off and the spring lost. The push blocks were also missing, but those are easy to replace. The safety key was missing from the power switch. Fortunately, three of my other power tools have keys that fit it.This jointer weights 5...

Powermatic PJ-882HH 8-Inch Parallelogram Jointer & Mobile Base Review

Powermatic PJ-882HH 8-Inch Parallelogram Jointer & Mobile Base Review

Purchase Decision. Woodworking is a hobby in my 2 car commandeered garage. I thought it time to upgrade from my 6” Craftsman jointer with its 36” long bed. The Craftsman never let me down since the late 1980’s, continued to work well, and was a great entry level jointer. However, it lacked the convenience of a long and wide bed. Replacing straight knives was always a challenge. In addition to an 8” wide X long bed, I wanted a helical cutter head and tables mounted with a parallelogram...

I can see not wanting to work without it in my future

I can see not wanting to work without it in my future

I scratched an old itch a couple of weeks ago and bought a Domino. I’m making a bed frame and this was the perfect project for this tool. Lots of slats and rails, lots of domino joints. It needed a slight calibration out of the box but was pretty easy to do, and has been a real force multiplier in saving me lots of time. I still have a ways to go on it and the domino work is mostly done, but it really has surpassed all of my expectations. It really is simple to use and as accurate you w...

Nice upgrade

Nice upgrade

03-05-2016 04:07 PM by Jarrhead | 8 comments »

I’ve been woodworking for about 15 years now. One of my first machines was a Jet JJ-6CSX jointer. It is your basic entry level floor standing machine. It has served me well over these many years, but I frequently found its capacity lacking. I wanted to upgrade to a 10” or 12” jointer, but was stymied by the fact that my shop is in my basement, and the only access is very limited. So I settled on an 8”. I figured it would do 98% of all the jointing I will ever need. So, 8” it is; but wh...

Bought it less then a year ago. It had to sit in the box for a while while I transferred to a new base. Finally got to set it up which was easy till the test. The blade was off. The side closer to the fence was cutting high. By looking at the instructions I figured it would be easy to adjust. Wrong! The cap screws were frozen. Three of them turned no problem but I couldn’t get the rest to budge. Since it is still under warranty (at the time of writing this) I contacted Grizzly for help....

Grizzly G0490X 8" Jointer With Helix Cutter Head

GRIZZLY G0490X 8” JOINTER After a year of looking for a good jointer and losing out on three nice ones, due to procrastination, I finally bit the bullet and bought a new Grizzly 8” Jointer with the helix head. The model number is G0490X. The X indicates the jointer is equipped with a helix head. Assembled, the jointer is the heaviest tool in my little shop, weighing about five hundred seventy-five pounds. Now that I’ve ran some highly figured walnut through the ...

Grizzly G0452 6" Jointer

Grizzly G0452 6" Jointer

I purchased this jointer this spring. In a nutshell, I am more than pleased. I do wish that I could have got the 8” jointer but budgets are what they are and when putting together a shop money has to be spread around.I think the fit and finish is spot on. The tables and fence are flat and move smoothly and have a nice finish. The damn thing runs really smooth with no vibration and can fill my chip bin faster than #####. It has handled everything I have fed it. I did hit a knot tha...
