Nice Jointer, But Keep Dreaming.....

Well, I ordered my Steel City 8” Granite Deluxe Jointer with Helical Head back in the beginning of August… The guy a the shop I deal with said it would be a 3-4 week wait to get one, well.. 3-4 weeks later.. still didnt’ have it.. then it was two weeks, then two more weeks, then it’s on the boat, should be another two weeks, well.. it’s been 3 months since I ordered it, checked back in, and final answer, there should be one at the tool show, and you can have that...
An Inexpensive and Space Efficient Combination Jointer/Planer
37 days ago by Thomas Keefe | 17 comments »
About a year ago, I took my first woodworking class (at the age of 51!). It was the first time I had actually used a jointer or a planer. Up to this point I had always purchased S2S lumber and been limited by whatever HD had to offer. After using both of these in class, I decided I needed to be able to do this at home. However, I have a very small workshop (10’ x 10’) and a limited budget. There was no way that they would both fit and no way my wife would let me buy them. So a ben...
Shelix cutterhead for jointer
43 days ago by Jim | 9 comments »
I’ve had my Grizzly 8” G0490 jointer for about 5 years. I’ve been very happy with this jointer. I wouldn’t hesitate to buy this same jointer again. About 2 yrs ago I decided to modify it by replacing the cutterhead with a Shelix head. I was working with some highly figured koa and wanted to maximize the utilization of this expensive wood as much as possible by not losing any to tearout. Many people want to know if the helical heads are worth the money. Short answer...
Super Value

This is a long review but, I hope it will be useful to someone considering this jointer. I purchased this jointer a few weeks ago and wanted to put it through it’s paces before reviewing it. This is an excellent machine and has quickly passed my bandsaw as the favorite tool in my shop. I spent a few months contemplating whether or not I even needed a jointer. After reading page after page of online forums I decided to go ahead and pull the trigger. I came really close to purcha...
Delta 6in Jointer with Stand (Shopmaster)

To begin this review I have to add that this is my first jointer ever. I’ve never used one before so all of my comments are based on being a novice. Also, one peculiar thing is that this jointer is not advertised on Delta’s website and other than seeing it in the Rockler advertisement I can’t find any proof of it’s existence;) The jointer is a 6 in model with a metal stand that needs to be assembled. The bed could be a bit longer but for me it works very well. S...
Grizzly G0593 8" Jointer with Spiral Cutter-head

This review is going to be a little different. (I am in a good mood)I decided that after years of doing it by hand, that it was time to buy a good jointer. As I have stated before, I am a little obsessive when it comes to buying a high priced tool. If it is something I can lay my hands on and look at, I usually have no problem just pulling the trigger and buying it. But when it comes to ordering a tool I have never seen/touched or used, and then giving the lady/man on the other end of the pho...
It's got rough spots but it works well.

For the past 5 months I have been looking for a new jointer. When I first started woodworking 4 years ago (has it really been long?), I purchased a Mastercraft 6” Bench Jointer. While it has served me well, it only worked for shorter pieces and it seemed to tear out everything except soft wood. Given that I am now a commited woodworker for life, I decided I really needed to get a “real jointer”. I went to all of the woodworking shops in my area but I couldn’t really fi...
6" Benchtop Jointer
304 days ago by rwyoung | 11 comments »
I decided that I would like to have a 6” jointer for my garage shop. The combination of limited working space and the size of my expected projects pointed me to a benchtop jointer. Depending on what review you read, most of the models in this class are limited to 3 ft or 4 ft workpieces. That length limitation was not an issue for me as most of my projects in the queue are cabinets and small furniture. I received the unit in good order and the packaging was quite well done with tw...

Nice small jointer for lightweight work

As a retired person who was a relative newcomer to the hobby, this was the first tool of this type that I purchased, and I had hopes that it would do what I needed in the way of hobby-grade woodworking. (I will use the terms jointer and planer interchangeably in this review.) Unfortunately, the short length of the aluminum table sections (spanning just 30 inches) made it difficult for the device to do a good job planing longer boards. In addition, the lack of a solid, two-sided lockdown with ...
