OK, fellow jocks, I know you’re snickering: “this newbie bought a power tool at Aldi.” And yes, I probably would have laughed at it too but damn if it isn’t a decent saw. The background: Needed to cut some circles out of plywood. Was going to use points at Sears, but missed the sale on the C3 by a day. Figured I’d just grab something cheap at HFT until I could get what I really wanted. The woman made me stop at Aldi on the way to grab some dinner stuff and ...

I needed a new jigsaw and since most of my tools are from Ryobi I decided to give this jigsaw a go, and to be honest its probably the best $40 I have spent on a tool, extremely fast and accurate and love the following features: 4 Position orbital actionVery powerful motorThere is a LED light that illuminates the blade entry point into the wood (extremely handy)No key needed for blade attachment

Can't believe how smoothly this jigsaw cuts

Can't believe how smoothly this jigsaw cuts

For years I had a Skil jigsaw, a hack tool if there ever was one. I got in the habit of always cutting well outside the line and then sanding down to the line because of the roughness of the cut, no matter the blade or cutting mode on that machine. I found this Bosch on the CPO website for about $95 18 months ago. The first thing I noticed was how big and hefty it was compared to the Skil I think that helps stabilize it on cuts. I’ve mainly used it for rough work. Yesterday I ...

Probably the best $40 I've spent on a tool

Hey fellow LJ’s, I found myself in need of a new jigsaw as the old Skil I had been using was just impossible to dial in to make a perfect 90º cut. No matter what I tried, I there would always be an angle on the inside of the cut piece and the metal blade guide started to rust, marking up my stock. I did a little research on some low priced saws (I go low price with pretty much everything) and ended up with the Ryobi JS481L 4.8 amp VS jigsaw. Overall:Very powerful, excellent cu...

Older Jigsaw

Older Jigsaw

06-21-2012 03:59 AM by Bob Kollman | 23 comments »

I bought this jigsaw about 3 months ago. The model is no longer available new, but after visiting 5 stores I was able to find this older model on display. I wanted the 1590evsk, because there have been so many reviews done on this model I knew it would meet my needs. As you see in the picture I bought a couple blades to go with the saw. This guy on e=bay puts up 89 blades a week on e=bay auction and I bought all these blades for 65 bucks. I even got a blade for cutting leather and rubber. ...

Best Jigsaw I've used

Best Jigsaw I've used

I’ve used 4 different jigsaws over the last few years, most recently though a $30 black and decker one that had lots of vibration and couldn’t cut a straight line for the life of it. I got tired of that and decided with my L-shaped closet shelfing I would use a jigsaw to cut it, so I’d need a quality one. I purchased this from Home depot for $130. It includes one blade that looks like 8 tpi or so, a case, and an allen wrench for adjusting the angle. I picked up some 10 ...

Good Jig Saw Great Price

Good Jig Saw Great Price

Another reconditioned tool from Direct Tools factory outlet in Hagarstown MD. This one looked brand new except for the RECOND branded into the housing. This is a standard orbital jig saw with adjustable blade angle, adjustable shoe angle, adjustable orbital motion. adjustable locking speed, and a max speed limiter on the trigger. It has plenty of control and power and far more adjustements than I will ever need. I can’t really see myself needing the adjustable blade angle or the a...

Outstanding Low-Profile JigSaw

Outstanding Low-Profile JigSaw

Both of my 20+ year old jigsaws bit the dust, so I trundled off to Menards to scope out a replacement. I spotted this saw on sale ($84.95 … Rockwell’s MSRP is $149.99). Nobody on LJ’s had any experience with this saw ( http://lumberjocks.com/topics/27668 ), so I decided to take the leap (Menards has a pretty good return policy). I had about $80 in rebate coupons, so it was an easy purchase. Full disclosure: I have always hated jigsaws (hard to control, hard to get straigh...

Nice to Have Tool

Nice to Have Tool

As many of you know, I can’t get to the shop much nowadays due to health issues, but LJs is my daily visit place where I can keep up with all the great posts and projects and also have some fun to make my day.Anyway, I was thinking about how I could contribute something of real value, so I decided to review tools that I did use when back in the shop. This review is on the Rockwell Blade Runner which I purchased for less than $100 a while back and used it. The unit is light, only 23lbs...
