Bosch Jigsaw 1590EVSK - It is a sweet tool

Bosch Jigsaw 1590EVSK - It is a sweet tool

This is one of the best tools I think I have bought. I had a cheap Sears jigsaw for years and only used it when I had to. This baby is a joy to use. The T-style blades are just clipped in place and eject with the press of a button. Blade changing is almost fun, no more allen wrenches. The variable speed trigger is very easy to control. The blade rides up and down guided by a set of V shaped ball bearings which hold the blade true (these can be flipped out of the way if wanted). The pow...

Makita 4351FCT Whatajigsaw!!

Makita 4351FCT Whatajigsaw!!

I know there are a lot of Bosch lovers out there, but I took a chance on this jigsaw and man did it pay off! The website indicated it was 40% less vibration than other brands. When I received it, and chucked up one of the new Starrett Dual-Cut blades and turned it on, you could barely feel any vibration. What a huge improvement over the POS Craftsman jigsaw I received as a gift a few years ago. This saw, in unison with the new Starrett blade yielded splinter free cuts on 3/4” oak ...

What a fantastic saw

What a fantastic saw

Overall impressionsI only wanted to buy a jigsaw once, so I bought the best I could afford the first time. This was it. $160 at the CPO Bosch website when I bought it a few months ago. I think it’s down to $145 at amazon now. I’ve been using the saw for a few months now, and have to say that I’m very glad I bought this rather than some of the others I’ve looked at. This saw seems to have power to spare in every task I’ve thrown at it, up to and including 2&#...

A mind of its own

A mind of its own

This is a tool I wish I never would have purchased. I would have prefered to get by using a coping saw and dealing with a blister or thirty. This tool generates such a level of frustration that it is amazing that the same engineers who design Dewalt, Porter Cable, and Delta could allow such a monstrosity to leave the lab. This particular unit has a quick blade release, variable speed, variable orbital action and an adjustable base. The quick blade release does release the blade quickly ...

Great saw for a big box store

Great saw for a big box store

353 days ago by DannyBoy | 9 comments »

I know, we all give the big box stores crap for having shoddy this, that, and the other. But let’s face it, we nearly all shop there. Lowes has always been a good place and I continue to love buying from there. I was lucky enough to get offered a bit of a shopping spree from my father for my birthday (a bit belated) and Lowes was just down the street. For the past 6 months I had been cursing myself for spending $30 on a crappy Black your Decker saw that was mostly plastic. I boug...

Quality saw, worth the investment

Quality saw, worth the investment

I have only had this saw for a few weeks but I have put it to pretty heavy use in that time building a couple Adirondack chairs and a few jigs. I am very glad I own this saw. It is worlds apart from most introductory jig saws (Black&Decker, Skill, Craftsman, Chicago…) I am not trying to be snooty but I have owned these and I am glad I upgraded. From where I stand here are the saws pros and cons. PROS:-Quick-Change blade clamp allows fast blade changes – no tools required. O...

I can't believe its not butter

I can't believe its not butter

From what I can see, the mechanics of this jigsaw appear identical to the corded version (the DW331K). Wow – this saw really surprised me. I wound up doing a lot of carpentry recently (cabinets in the garage made out of 2×4’s and plywood) and my B&D drill died. For my anniversary, the loml bought me a DeWalt 18v drill/impact driver combination kit which started me looking for a way to score another battery. Since I had a “lowest price I could find” B&D I t...

In Search of a Plumb Cut

In Search of a Plumb Cut

639 days ago by deadhead | 6 comments »

I recently had a couple of projects that required some curve cuts in both 4/4 oak and 8 ft. 2×12 pine. I don’t own a bandsaw ( bandsaws, horses, and teen agers all make me nervous) no problem , I had my trusty Skil jigsaw.Forget it! What was supposed to be a perfectly plumb 90 degree cut ended up as a 45 degree edge. I think the blade was trying to run away from the wood. So…, off to Home Depot. I was mentally prepared to spend a few bucks and get the best jigsaw available. I...

Is bad

Is bad

I had a cheaper version of this saw and the quick release clamp broke. I figured I had bought all these stupid blades to fit the quick clamp so I bought another B/D of higher quality (the one being reviewed here) so I wouldn’t have this problem…..wrong. The new one broke the same way (quick clamp) so I stumbled upon this site trying to find a replacement for the broken quick clamp. You can find them for about $3…........................+$12 shipping. arrghhh
